Overview

The P-870HN-51D is a router which combines high-speed VDSL Internet

access, a built-in switch and high-speed wireless networking capability. It

supports Quality of Service (QoS) that allows time-sensitive services and

applications to flow more smoothly. The firewall blocks traffic initiated

from the WAN but can be configured to allow incoming traffic from

certain IP addresses.

Requirements

Make sure you have the following things before you start.

• Internet access - account information provided by your ISP, such as

user name, password, and so on.

• Internet Explorer 6.0 (or later versions) and Mozilla Firefox 3.6 (or

later versions), with JavaScript enabled.

To read the User's Guide insert the CD that came in the box into your

CD-ROM drive. A screen should pop up. Navigate to the User's Guide

from this screen. If a screen does not pop up, open Windows Explorer

(click My Computer), click on the CD-ROM drive (usually drive D) and

navigate to it from there.

Hardware Connections

Remove the P-870HN-51D’s plastic cover before using it.

1. DSL: Use a telephone wire to connect this port to a telephone jack (or

the DSL or MODEM jack on a splitter, if you have one).

2. ETHERNET 1~4: Use an Ethernet cable to connect a computer to

one of these ports for initial configuration and/or Internet access.

3. Use the power adaptor provided with your P-870HN-51D to connect

an appropriate power source to this socket.

4. Attach the antenna onto the P-870HN-51D.

5. Push the power button to the on position.

Look at the LEDs (lights) on the front panel of the P-

870HN-51D.

• The PWR/SYS light blinks during start-up and is

green once the P-870HN-51D is ready.

• An ETHERNET light turns on if the corresponding

ETHERNET port is properly connected. An Ethernet

port’s light blinks when the P-870HN-51D is sending

or receiving data through it.

• The WPS/WLAN light stays green when the

wireless LAN is ready. It blinks when the P-870HN-

51D is sending/receiving data through the wireless

LAN.

• The DSL light stays on if a physical DSL connection

exists and blinks when transmitting data.

The INTERNET light is green when Internet access

is available. Open your web browser, and go to a

website, such as http://www.zyxel.com. If the web

page opens correctly, your P-870HN-51D is ready

for you to use.

 If no lights are on, check your connections. Make sure that

you have the power adaptor connected to the P-870HN-51D

and plugged in to an appropriate power source. Make sure

the power source is turned on. Turn the P-870HN-51D off,

wait for a few seconds and turn it back on. If the LEDs are

still off, contact your local vendor.

Set Up a Wireless Network

You can set up a wireless network using the following methods.

Using Wireless Protected Setup (WPS)

Press the WPS button on the P-870HN-51D’s rear panel for more than 5

seconds to turn the WPS function on.

Follow these steps to add a WPS-enabled device to the wireless network

using the WPS/WLAN button.

Place the devices you want to connect near

one another.

Press the WPS button on the P-870HN-

51D.

The WPS/WLAN light blinks.

Press the WPS button on a compatible

device within 2 minutes of pressing the

button on the P-870HN-51D.

The WPS/WLAN light on the P-870HN-51D

shines steadily when connected.

Set Up a Wireless Network Manually

The wireless function on your P-870HN-51D is enabled by default. To

add a wireless client to the network, use the settings found in the bottom

panel of the P-870HN-51D, as follows:

Configure wireless devices that you want to connect to the wireless

network to use the same wireless settings as the P-870HN-51D.

Log into the Web Configurator

Your device may already be set up for Internet access and Internet calls.

You may only need to log on to the Web Configurator for the following:

• Configure your Internet access settings manually

• Customize the Quality of Service (QoS) and routing features

• Create firewall and web filter rules

• Edit remote management, as well as other features

1. Open your browser and enter https://192.168.1.1 (the P-870HN-

51D's default IP address) as the address.

SSID: ZyXEL

Security Mode: WPA2-PSK (compatible)

Pre-Shared Key: 12345678 (or AutoGenKey)

2. Enter username admin and password 1234 (default). Click Login.

 If the login screen does not open, make sure you allow web

browser pop-up windows, JavaScripts and Java

permissions. Your computer should be also set to get an IP

address automatically from a DHCP server. See the

appendices in your User’s Guide for more information.

See your User’s Guide for how to use the Network > WAN screens to

set up the WAN connection if the INTERNET LED (light) is off. You may

need to enter the username and password provided by your ISP.

The P-870HN-51D is a desktop device. Please make sure to place it in a

dry and flat surface before using.

How to View a Product’s Certification(s)

1. Go to www.zyxel.com.

2. Select your product from the drop-down list box on the ZyXEL

home page to go to that product's page.
