ConvertingtoSide-Discharge
Operation
DANGER
Withoutthegrassdeector,dischargecover,or
completegrasscatcherassemblymountedin
place,youandothersareexposedtobladecontact
andthrowndebris.Contactwithrotatingmower
blade(s)andthrowndebriswillcauseinjuryor
death.
Neverremovethegrassdeectorfromthemower
becausethegrassdeectorroutesmaterialdown
towardtheturf.Ifthegrassdeectorisever
damaged,replaceitimmediately.
Neverputyourhandsorfeetunderthemower.
Nevertrytoclearthedischargeareaormower
bladesunlessyoumovethepowertakeoff
(PTO)todisengageandturntheignitionkeyto
off.Alsoremovethekeyandpullthewireoff
thesparkplug(s).
Note:Tousethemowerinsidedischargemode,only
removethedischargecover.Mountinghardwaremustbe
installedinopenholes.
1.Stoptheengineandremovetheignitionkey.
2.Removethe2boltsandnutsthatsecurethedischarge
covertothemower.
3.Removethedischargecover.
4.Ifthemoweroriginallyhadacutoffbafe,installitnow.
5.Lowerthegrassdeectoroverthedischargeopening.
Important:Ensurethemowerhasahingedgrass
deectorthatdispersesclippingstothesideand
downtowardtheturf,whileinsidedischarge
mode.
Tomulchgrassclippings,installthedischargecoverintothe
openinginthesideofthemower;referto5Installingthe
DischargeCover(page4).
OperatingTips
SelectingtheProperHeight-of-Cut
SettingtoSuittheConditions
Removeapproximately1inchornomorethan1/3ofthe
grassbladewhencutting.Inexceptionallylushanddense
grassyoumayneedtoraisetheheight-of-cutsettinganother
notchorconverttosidedischargeorbaggingoperations.
MowinginExtremeConditions
Airisrequiredtocutandrecutgrassclippingsinthemower
housing,sodonotsettheheight-of-cuttoolowortotally
surroundthehousingbyuncutgrass.Alwayshaveoneside
ofthemowerhousingfreefromuncutgrass,allowingairto
bedrawnintohousing.Whenmakinganinitialcutthrough
thecenteroftheuncutarea,operatethemachineataslower
speedandbackupifthemowerstartstoclog.
MowingattheProperIntervals
Undernormalconditionsyouwillneedtomowevery4-5
days.However,grassgrowsatdifferentratesatdifferent
times.Inordertomaintainthesameheight-of-cut,youwill
needtocutmorefrequentlyinearlyspring;asthegrass
growthrateslowsinmidsummer,cutonlyevery8-10days.
Ifyouareunabletomowforanextendedperiodduetothe
weatherconditionsorotherreasons,converttosidedischarge
orbaggingoptionsormowrstwiththeheight-of-cutata
highlevel;thenmowagain2-3dayslaterwithalowerheight
setting.
MowingwithSharpBlades
Asharpbladecutscleanlyandwithouttearingorshredding
thegrassbladelikeadullblade.Tearingandshreddingcauses
thegrasstoturnbrownattheedgeswhichimpairsgrowth
andincreasessusceptibilitytodisease.
CleaningafterOperating
Toensureoptimumperformance,cleantheundersideofthe
mowerhousing.Ifresiduebuildsupinthemowerhousing,
cuttingperformancewilldecrease.
