When Print Quality Is Not Satisfactory
Uneven density (Major case)
Uneven density
[Cause/Technical reason]
In order to use this device with your desirable prints, please set and feed the media correctly.
The device with the stagger head configuration can occur some unacceptable image quality
due to some incorrect media behavior and sensitive skewing.
You can find the factor for uneven density with printed cutter marks. (It does not have to be a
cutter mark, small character or thin line is enough to check the factor.)
[Adding cutter marks]
Using ONIX RIP, you can add the cutter mark in the job.
Right click on the job Open the “Job Properties” Open the “Marks” tab Check the
Edge marks
When Print Quality Is Not Satisfactory
10
Using the ColorGATE RIP:
Right click on the job Open the “Settings” window Open the “Jobs” tab
Click on the cut marks icon Select cut marks.
When Print Quality Is Not Satisfactory
11
[Details / Solution]
There are two steps.
Please refer to the corresponding item.
a≠b
When cutter marks are not the same level on the right and left position, the media is
skewing.
See the STEP1-1.
ab≠0
When cutter marks are misaligned in a media feed direction, the media feed quantity is not
correct.
See the STEP1-2.

STEP1-1 In the case of skewing
1. Setting media is not correct.
Please set the media correctly referring to the video which describes how to set media or
section “setting media” in the manual” Operating Instructions.
How to set media:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aRqvMQCfMTg&feature=youtu.be
https://2280171.mediaspace.kaltura.com/media/How+to+set+media+on+the+Pro+L5130+s
eries+of+wide+format+devices/1_mlm093yt
2. Printing on the media rewound area.
If you print on the media rewound area, the machine cannot feed the media correctly. Use
only one way.
3. Contacting the floor.
When the media edge contacts the floor and pulls the media to one side, media skew occurs.
Use the roll-up unit so that the media edge does not touch the floor.
When Print Quality Is Not Satisfactory
13
STEP1-2 In the case of the media feed quantity is not correct.
1. You have not adjusted feed quantity and drop position.
Adjust the feed quantity correctly, because optimal feed quantity differs for each media.
See the section “Adjusting the Media Feed Quantity " in the manual Operating Instructions.
2. The media feed was adjusted in the part where the media has been fed and moved back
or the media is deformed due to heating.
The reversed section of media is damaged by the resist roller and heater.
If you adjust feed quantity in damaged part, uneven density may occur on the media that is
not damaged, because the optimal feed quantity may differ between the damaged part and
the non-damaged part.
If this has happened, press [Origin Setting/Cut] to feed the media until the undamaged
section is under the print heads and perform the media feed adjustment again.
When Print Quality Is Not Satisfactory
14
STEP2 Adjust the actual image by Media Feed Adjustment
If STEP 1 does not solve the uneven density, try the STEP2 solutions.
STEP2 has two options.
1. Adjust the image by Media Feed Adjustment (micro settings) and Media Feed
Correction.
2. Print by raising the number of passes.
Adjusting image takes time and consumes the media.
When you print small job, print by raising the number of passes, because this may be faster
than adjusting the image.
[Describes adjusting the image]
Media Feed Adjustment (micro setting)
If you can see uneven density, shift to the " - (minus) " side by "Media Feed Adjustment"
setting.
When changing “micro setting” to a negative value, the media feed quantity will become
shorter. (Media feed quantity is the pink line on the following figure.)
As a result, the uneven density is decreased,
but black lines could appear when feed quantity is shorter than image length when printing
each pass. (Image length is the orange lines on the following figure.)
Refer to “troubleshooting” in the manual Operating Instructions for instructions on how to
adjust the media feed.
When Print Quality Is Not Satisfactory
15
Media Feed Correction
You can remove black lines using “Media Feed Correction”.
You can select the level of media feed correction from level 0 to level 3.
Basically, set level 0.
If you can see black line, change setting to level 1.
Change setting stronger when still does not solve.
Caution
If media feed correction is too strong, the white band may occur.
Setting level 0 or level 1 is recommended.

Refer to “troubleshooting” in the manual Operating Instructions” for instructions on how to
adjust the media feed correction.
When Print Quality Is Not Satisfactory
16
Uneven density at the media edge (Not in the center)
[Problem]
Uneven density occurs in edge of media.
[Cause/Technical reason]
When you use eccentric media, uneven density occurs because Media feed quantity is not
even at the center and edge of the media.
In many cases, since the tension at the media edge becomes loose, the feed amount is not
stable and uneven density occurs.
[Solution]
Change the media storage condition.
If you keep it on the floor, the roll media may
be eccentric. Support the roll core so that
the media does not touch the floor.
if roll core is not straight,
do not use the media edge to print.

17
Uneven density (Media is stuck on the platen)
[Problem]
[Cause/Technical reason]
Media is stuck on the machine.
Having sticky media may lead to it being fed incorrectly due to sticking on the platen or roll
media.
[Solution]
In the case of sticking on the platen,
Stickiness may increase with heating. Lower the heater temperature.
If ink is stuck on the platen, clean it with a paper towel soaked in alcohol such as Solmix.
(Refer to the section "Cleaning the platen" in the manual “Requests for Daily Care and
Maintenance.)
In case of sticking on the roll media,
Please pull out the media once and wind it around the roll core again.
The media stickiness will become weaker.
When Print Quality Is Not Satisfactory
18
Black Lines (Major case
Media
feeding pitch
[Cause/Technical reason]
1. The media feed quantity is not correct.
Not adjusted properly or Media Feed Adjustment (micro setting) are too short.
2. Heater temperature is not enough to dry the dropped ink.
In the case of using high speed mode (6pass or 8pass), black lines occur at only dark
image position due to too much ink.
[Solution]
1. Adjust the feed quantity correctly, because optimal feed quantity differs from each media.
See the section "Adjusting the Media Feed Quantity in the manual” Operating Instructions.
Adjusted the media feed with the part where the media has been fed and moved back or the
deforming media due to heating.
The rewound media and heated media are damaged by the registration roller and heater
temperature. If you adjust feed quantity in damaged part, Black lines may occur on
undamaged part, because the optimal feed quantity may differ between damaged part and
undamaged part.
2. Change the Heater temperature settings to higher or raise the drying time.
Change the pre and print heater settings higher by about +10 .
Use UNI direction to raise the drying time. It can be select on RIP software.
When using ONYX rip, open print setting select UNI direction on printing direction.
When using ColorGATE RIP, right click on the job select “Settings” select “Advanced
Settings” under the “Color” tab Select the “Print Mode” tab and untick “Bidirectional”

Black LinesVacuum level is not fitting
1. Setting the media is not correct.
Black lines occur.
[Cause/Technical reason]
A black line may occur if you raise the Vacuum level after adjusting Media feed quantity.
It is because the media feed quantity differs as the load of the media increases.
Following image describes the trend of vacuum level and black line.
As the vacuum level get stronger, black lines become noticeable.
・・・・・
No black line
black line
black line
+2(default) +8 +9+1
+9 is strongest setting.
Feed adjustment is performed at vacuum setting +2(default).
[Solution]
Default setting is best setting for high quality.
If the media jams or floats, raise the vacuum level and perform feed adjustment after
changing the vacuum level setting.
