proles.Otherapplicationsandclientscanaccessvideostreamsdirectly,withoutgoingviatheLiveViewpage.

H.264can,withoutcompromisingimagequality,reducethesizeofadigitalvideolebymorethan80%comparedwiththeMotion

JPEGformatandasmuchas50%morethantheMPEG-4standard.Thismeansthatmuchlessnetworkbandwidthandstoragespace

arerequiredforavideole.Orseenanotherway,muchhighervideoqualitycanbeachievedforagivenbitrate.

AnH.264videostreamconsistsofdifferenttypesofframessuchasI-framesandP-frames.AnI-frameisacompleteimagewhereas

P-framesonlycontainthedifferencesfrompreviousframes.

TheH.264streamsettingscanbeconguredfromtheVideo>VideoStreampage.SelecttheH.264tab.Thesettingsdenedinthis

pagewillapplytoallH.264streamsthatdonotuseastreamprole.

TheGOPlengthisthenumberofframesbetweentwoconsecutiveI-frames.IncreasingtheGOPlengthmaysaveconsiderablyon

bandwidthrequirementsinsomecases,butmayalsohaveanadverseaffectonimagequality.

TheAxisproductsupportsthefollowingH.264prole(s):

•Main.TheMainproleprovideshighercompressionwithmaintainedvideoqualitycomparedtotheBaselineprolebut

requiresmoreprocessingpowertodecode.

ThebitratecanbesetasVariablebitrate(VBR)orConstantbitrate(CBR).VBRadjuststhebitrateaccordingtotheimage

complexity,usingupmorebandwidthforincreasedactivityintheimage,andlessforlowerimageactivity.Whentheactivityin

thesceneincreases,thebitratewouldusuallyincreaseaswell.Ifthereisasurplusinbandwidth,thismaynotbeanissueand

selectingVariablebitrate(VBR)willbesufcient.Butifbandwidthislimited,itisrecommendedtocontrolthebitratebyselecting

Constantbitrate(CBR).Whentheactivityinthesceneincreases,VBRadjuststhebitrateaccordingtothecomplexity,usingup

morebandwidthforincreasedactivityinthescene,andlessforlowersceneactivity.CBRallowsyoutosetatargetbitratethat

limitsthebandwidthconsumption.

TheCBRtargetbitrateworksliketheceilingofatent.Itlimitsthebitrate,whilemaintainingsomeexibility.Thebitratemaybounce

upanddownwithinthesettargetbutwhenitnearsthesettargetvalue,thelimitationkicksin.However,becauseCBRwillalways

prioritizeacontinuousvideostream,itallowstemporaryovershootsfromthetargetbitrate.Becausesettingatargetvalueprevents

thebitratefromincreasing,framerateandimagequalityareaffectednegatively.Topartlycompensateforthis,selectwhichvariable

shallbeprioritized,framerateorimagequality.Notsettingaprioritymeansthatframerateandimagequalityareequallyaffected.

Sometimestheimagesizeislargeduetolowlightorcomplexscenery.Adjustingthemaximumframesizehelpstocontrolthe

bandwidthandstorageusedbytheMotionJPEGvideostreaminthesesituations.SettingtheframesizetotheDefaultsetting

providesconsistentlygoodimagequalityattheexpenseofincreasedbandwidthandstorageusageinlowlight.Limitingtheframe

sizeoptimizesbandwidthandstorageusage,butmaygivepoorimagequality.Topreventincreasedbandwidthandstorageusage,

themaximumframesizeshouldbesettoanoptimalvalue.

StreamProles

Astreamproleisasetofpredenedstreamsettingsincludingresolution,compression,framerateandoverlaysettings.Stream

prolescanbeused:

•Whensettinguprecordingusingactionrules.SeeEventsonpage32.

Whitebalanceisusedtomakecolorsintheimageappearthesameregardlessofthecolortemperatureofthelightsource.TheAxis

productcanbesettoautomaticallyidentifythelightsourceandcompensateforitscolor.Alternatively,selectthetypeoflight

sourcefromthedrop-downlist.Foradescriptionofeachavailablesetting,seetheonlinehelp

Exposureistheamountoflightthecamera’ssensorcapturesforascene.Toomuchlightresultsinawashedoutimageandtoo

littlelightresultsinadarkimage.

Conguretheexposuresettingstosuittheimagequalityrequirementsinrelationtolighting,framerateandbandwidth

considerations.

Exposurevalue-Clickinthebartone-tunetheexposure.

EnableBacklightcompensation-Enablethisoptionifabrightspotoflightsuchasalightbulb,causesotherareasintheimage

toappeartoodark.

Exposurepriority-WhenMotionisprioritized,motionblurintheimageisminimized.Thiscanbeusefulforrecognitionofmoving

objectssuchaspeopleandvehicles.However,prioritizingmotionmaycauseanincreaseinimagenoise,especiallyinlowlight

situations.WhenLownoiseisprioritized,imagenoiseisminimizedandthelesizeisreduced,whichcanbeusefulifstoragespace

orbandwidthislimited.However,prioritizinglownoisemayresultinaverydarkimage,especiallyinlowlightsituations.

ViewArea

Aviewareaisacroppedpartofthefullview.TheviewareaistreatedasavideosourceinLiveViewandhasitsownvideo

streamandPTZsettings.

Whensettingupaviewareaitisrecommendedthatthevideostreamresolutionisthesamesizeasorsmallerthantheviewarea

size.Settingthevideostreamresolutionlargerthantheviewareasizeimpliesdigitallyscaledupvideoaftersensorcapture,

requiringmorebandwidthwithoutaddingimageinformation.
