General Observations &
Limitations
This section provides with a list of DOS SSD FWD UTIL Observations & Lim-
itations.
Observations
1. If the disk is unplugged during the firmware download process, the results
are unpredictable.
2. The USB that has DOS SSD-FWD UTIL executable, firmware binaries and
DOS bootable files should remain connected to the PC when SSD-FWD UTIL
is running.
3. Accessing the disk while firmware download operation is in progress may
give unpredictable result.

4. This application should be used only with authorized Samsung SSD for the
intended purpose of upgrading firmware.
5. It is a good practice to take a backup of the data before starting firm- ware
download process.
6. When DOS SSD firmware download solution is not available then, an error
message, “Firmware download solution not available. Please create it
using Samsung SSD Magician Tool.” is displayed. Then end user has to per-
form Firmware update using SSD Magician tool.
Limitations
1. AHCI or ATA mode must be enabled in the BIOS during PC boot up. The DOS
SSD application automatically senses the mode and works accordingly.
2. Removal of disks when the application is running on PC’s with chipsets such
as ICH5/6 that do not support hot plug feature, may cause the DOS SSD
FWD UTIL utility to hang and a system reboot is needed.
3. DOS SSD Application cannot render the FONT correctly on some of the Dis-
play chipset like Intel® Q45/Q43 Express Chipset.
4. DOS Drivers cannot detect the SSD connected to system when the BIOS are
set to “RAID ON”.
5. SSD FWD Utility is not supported in AHCI mode on AMD chipset.

Troubleshooting
Q 1: Why DOS SSD FWD UTIL application is taking long time to
open?
A 1: SSD tries to detect disks connected to the system when it is
launched. This may require few minutes depending on the num-
ber of disks connected to the system and the hardware platform.
Q 2: Why DOS SSD-FWD UTIL application does not download
firmware, but returns a success?
A 2: Initial firmware may have been downloaded onto the SSD and it
may not have been Power Off / On by the user.
