  • Hello! I've reviewed the provided Field Service Upgrade Instructions for IHP contemporary direct-vent gas fireplaces. This document details the steps for upgrading models such as Astria and Superior fireplaces. It includes instructions on replacing door latches, installing restrictors, replacing the pilot hood, and adjusting pilot gas settings. I'm ready to answer any specific questions you have about these upgrade procedures.
  • What type of wrench is needed for pilot orifice adjustment?
How can the new door latch assemblies be identified?
What should be done with the old pilot hood?

4. If the unit has the rear block off baffle installed remove the old baffle
and install the new baffle provided in this kit. This baffle is only to
be used on rear vented fireplaces that have no elbows or vertical
pipe sections installed (see Figures 9, 10 and 11).
5. Remove pilot hood by pulling up firmly, discard it and verify proper
pilot gas setting. For Natural gas units the orifice should be turned
counter-clockwise. For Propane (LP) gas units the orifice should
turned clockwise. Some pilot orifices require a small flat standard
screwdriver and some require a 4mm allen type wrench (see Figures
12 and 13).
6. Install new pilot hood provided in this kit by pressing down firmly
until a click is heard. Verify that the pilot hood is properly installed
by lightly pulling up and verifying the spring is still installed (see
Figure 13). NOTE: the pilot hood has a flat spot that will align with
a flat spot inside the pilot cavity.

Pilot Assemblies may vary. Type ‘A’ pilot will require a flat standard
screwdriver and Type ‘B’ pilot will require a 4mm allen wrench.

contemporary panel (or any other obstruction) will not prevent the
pilot flame from igniting the burner effectively. See Figures 14 and
15.
8. Reinstall the glass door (making sure the gasket if properly seated
against the glass and does not bunch up on top). This door should
swing freely at the bottom and have no scrapping on metal firebox.
9. Reinstall the barrier.
NOTE: Pilot hood shall be as seen above with a unobstructed path.
