Important Safety Precautions
Always follow these basic safety precautions when using your
scanner. This will reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and injury.
Important: Do not expose this product to rain or moisture.
Caution: To avoid risk of electric shock, do not disassemble this
unit. There are no user-serviceable parts inside. Refer all
servicing to qualified personnel
Ventilation: The device should be situated so that its location or
position does not interfere with its proper ventilation. For example,
the unit should not be situated on a bed, sofa, rug, or similar
surfaces that may block the ventilation openings.
Heat: The device should be situated away from sources of high
heat such as radiators or stoves.
USB power source: The device should be connected to a USB
power supply from a connected computer with USB 2.0 compliant
connection.
Cleaning: We strongly suggest using a clean, dry, non-alcohol
cotton swab or the included cleaning brush to insert into the
scanner slot from the right side and clean the glass surface
periodically to produce a clear image.
Non-use: The USB cable should be unplugged from the computer
when the unit is left unused for a long period of time.
USB overloading: Do not overload the USB connections on your
computer. If you have other devices connected to your computer
such as a wireless mouse, MP3 player, mobile phone, or other
USB powered devices. If too many devices are connected to the
computer, there may be inadequate power for the scanner to
operate properly.
Servicing: The user should not attempt to service the device
beyond those means described in the operating instructions. All
other servicing should be referred to qualified service personnel.
Negative Trays: In some cases, the holes on the negatives will
not match exactly to alignment of the tray. This is caused by a
non-standard camera. In this case, there will be a small black line
on the edge of the image that can easily be cropped out using the
included PhotoImpression software.

CAUTIONS
To ensure a clear image, it is highly recommended to use a
clean, dry, non-alcohol cotton swab or the included cleaning
brush to insert into the scanner slot from the right side and
clean the glass surface.
Do not connect the scanner to your PC before finishing
installing driver and PhotoImpression software.
Disconnect all other USB devices from the computer that are
not currently being used.
Close all software windows you are not currently using.
The ArcSoft PhotoImpression software that is included with the
Pandigital Slide and Negative Scanner allows you to scan images
directly into the PC or onto a memory card. The software can also be
used to preview, organize, edit, and share your scanned images.
Before connecting the scanner to the computer for the first time,
install the driver & PhotoImpression software.
1. Insert the Driver & PhotoImpression CD into your PC.
2. This installation screen should appear:
If the installation screen does not appear, open a Windows
Explorer and double-click on the autorun.exe program icon:
7
3. Click
Driver & PhotoImpression.
4. After the driver installation, you can select a different
language for PhotoImpression if desired.
5. Follow the install wizard to install the PhotoImpression
software.
6. When the screen appears with the list of file types for
PhotoImpression software to be used as the default viewer,
click the
Clear All button or de-select the files types that you
don’t want to automatically open with this software.
7. The installed software will automatically create a
PhotoImpression icon on your desktop.
8. Remove the installation CD.
9. Unplug any unnecessary USB devices connected to your
computer.
10. To ensure an adequate power distribution to your USB 2.0
port, you must restart your computer.
Loading Negatives
Handle negatives with care; any dust,
scratches, or finger prints will appear on your
scanned images. If possible, use cotton gloves
when handling negatives. It is recommended to
use compressed air to remove any dust on the
negatives (not included, can be purchased from
an office supply or electronics retailer).
Hold up the negative towards light, with the
small negative numbers facing you (not a mirror
image) and the image should appear normally
(not upside down).
Open the negative tray at the marked spot on the top. With the
negative tray laid open, place the negative into the tray so the
notches line up with the notches on the tray.
8
Close the negative tray and press the edges so
that it locks into place.
Loading Positive Slides

or finger prints will appear on your saved
images. If possible, use cotton gloves when
handling slides. It is recommended to use
compressed air to remove any dust on the
slides (not included).

statement “this side toward screen” away from
you. Look through the slide; it should appear
normally (not upside down).
