Akura AMTDT3509/250 is a personal video recorder with a 250 GB hard disk, offering up to 160 hours of recording. It has a built-in digital TV tuner, so you can watch and record freeview channels. years of trouble free service.

About this User Guide.

This user guide contains all the information you need to know, how to setup watch,

record and replay available Freeview Channels and programmes.

What is DVB-T ?

Digital Video Broadcast (DVB) is the latest method of transmitting television to your

home, allowing many more channels and programmes than the Analog

TV system.

PVR (Personal Video Recording) Instructions.

This PVR has a disc capacity of either 250 or 320 Gigabytes, depending upon model,

allowing up to 160 or over 200 Hours of recording. You may replace the HDD with an alternative up to

500 Gigabytes (see page 23).

Accessories.

Remove the PVR carefully from its packaging and remove the accessories from the

packaging. It is wise to keep the packaging away from children

and small animals. Keep the packaging

safe for future use.

Digital Upgrade

Starting in 2008 and ending in 2012, television services will go

completely digital, TV region by TV

region.

To continue using this PVR during and following the digital switchover, you will need to “reset”

your

digital TV channels.

Users of this PVR must reset on at least 2 different occasions, normally 1 month apart when your

switchover happens. Digital UK, the body leading the digital switchover, and broadcasters, will advise

you when to reset your digital channels on each occasion.

If you do not reset your digital channels, you risk loosing some or all of your TV services during and

following switchover.

Please refer to this instruction manual to retune the Digital TV

services.

Do NOT use “ADD”

channels, you MUST “RESET”

and allow a complete retune. (See page 12)

This set has been designed and manufactured to assure your personal safety. Improper use can

result in Electric shock or Fire hazard. The safeguards in this appliance will protect you if you

observe the correct procedures for installation, servicing and operation. There are NO user

parts inside. DO NOT REMOVE THE CASE OR OTHER COVERS OR YOU MAY BE EXPOSED TO

DANGEROUS VOLTAGES AND WILL INVALIDATE YOUR WARRANTY. REFER ALL SERVICING

TO QUALIFIED SERVICE PERSONNEL.

Power Supply.

This apparatus is designed to operate from a 100 –

250V AC 50/60 Hz supply. Do NOT connect to an

alternative supply.

Connections. When connecting the PVR to external sources and the mains supply, do not place wires

that can be tripped over. Do not trap or place heavy objects on the mains lead or adaptor.

Should the mains plug become damaged you may replace by following the instructions on page 26

Ventilation and Heat Sources. Do not place material over the ventilation slots, this will cause the PVR

to overheat and fail. Do not place the PVR in direct sunlight or

near heat sources such as radiators or

fires.

Moisture. Do not place the PVR in wet or damp conditions, such as steamy

kitchens, basements or

other damp places. Do not allow water or other fluids to enter the PVR. Do not touch the Mains plug or

adaptor with wet hands. Should moisture enter the PVR, disconnect from the supply and call the

customer help line.

Cleaning. Disconnect the PVR from the mains supply. Use a soft dry cloth, for stubborn stains use a

soft moist cloth with a dilute mild detergent.. Do NOT use petrol based fluids or abrasive materials.

Transportation. The PVR has an internal HDD (Hard drive) that is susceptible to shock and vibration.

Do not drop the PVR, only carry in the packaging provided. The HDD is not covered by warranty if

shown to have impact damage.

Lightning.

During a thunderstorm or when leaving the appliance for long periods such as holidays, disconnect

the aerial input (if external aerial) and remove the mains plug,

Damage Requiring Service.

Should any of the following happen, disconnect from the mains supply and call an engineer or

Technical Help Centre. :-

Damage of the mains cord or plug.

Liquid or other objects enter the casing.

The apparatus has been exposed to rain or moisture.

If the appliance does not operate in accordance with the normal operation expected.

If the appliance has been dropped or the case damaged.

31.Slow. Plays replay in various

speeds.

Installing the Batteries.

Remove the battery cover from the remote control and place 2 x AAA batteries (Not supplied)

inside the battery compartment, taking note of battery polarity,

see diagram inside battery

compartment. Replace battery cover firmly.

Using the Remote Control.

Point the Remote Control towards the front of the PVR. Do not press more than one button at

a time. The working range is approx 7 metres and +/-

30 degrees.

Do not place any objects in the signal path.

Bright sunlight or fluorescent lights may decrease the operating

sensitivity.

Battery Disposal.

Do not break open or throw on a fire exhausted batteries.

If batteries “leak”

remove immediately, clean out any residue

with warm soapy water, do NOT allow water to enter the main

body of the Remote Control, dry thoroughly before fitting new

batteries.

Do not throw old batteries in the domestic waste. Contact your

local waste authority for disposal instructions

Front Panel and Rear Panel Connections

1. Power Button. Switches the Mains supply On and Off.

2. Standby Indicator. Red led will illuminate in standby.

3. Remote Control Sensor. Receives commands from remote control.

4. Led Display. Displays channel number, time and playing states.

5. Channel Up. Increments channels upwards.

6. Record. Starts recording manually. Each press increments recording time.

7. Channel Down. Decrements channels downwards.

1. RF In / RF Loop through (PVR and Tuner).

PVR/TV RF In socket connects to your external aerial. The PVR/TV

RF Loop through socket

will allow connection to another tuner or your TV. See connections diagram for details.

2. VCR SCART. Allows connection from a DVD or other video system.

3. TV SCART. Connects to your TV.

4. Coaxial. Allows connection of Hi Quality PCM audio to a suitable external Hi Fi

system.

5. CVBS video. Composite video output (1V pp @ 75 ohms).

6. S - Video. Y/C video output. (Luma/ Chroma).

7. Audio L/R. Analog audio output. (200m/V @ 5K ohms)

8. RS232 Port. Firmware upgrade port. (Not for general use).

9. Mains power cable. Connect to the mains supply.

Getting started

Switching on for the first time.

Turn on the TV set. Turn on the PVR, the RED Led will indicate the PVR is in standby, this should then

turn to GREEN indicating the PVR is now operational. If connected by the SCART connection, the PVR

should automatically be selected. If not, select AV or whichever input source you connected the PVR to.

If this is a “First Time”

installation or all the channels have been deleted a TV setting

menu will be

displayed (Fig 1).

Press the “LEFT”

or “RIGHT”

(◄/►)

cursor button to select the screen size of the TV 16:9 or 4:3 .

Press “OK”

to continue installation. Fig 2 menu will be displayed. Use the cursor buttons ◄/► to select

“CONFIRM”

and press “OK”.

Press the ◄/►

cursor buttons to select the screen size of the TV 16:9 or 4:3

Press “OK”

to continue installation. Fig 2 menu will be displayed. Use the cursor buttons ◄/► to select

“CONFIRM”

and press “OK”.

A “Scan Progress”

display (Fig 3) will be shown, and a list of channels received will be shown as the

search progresses. A “progress bar”

is also shown.

When the tuning is completed and all available Radio and TV channels have been stored the PVR will

display the first channel in the list (BBC1)

Automatic channel search.

Press the “MENU”

button to display the Main menu (Fig 4)

Press the “UP”

or “DOWN”

(▲/▼) cursor buttons to select Channel Search

Press “OK”

to enter the sub menu.( Fig 5) Highlight “Search Type”

and use the ►/◄ buttons to select

“Auto Scan”.

Press “OK”

to start the search. Press EXIT to quit the search. If EXIT is pressed no channels will be

stored.

Manual channel search.

Press the “MENU”

button to display the Main menu (Fig 4)

Press the ▲/▼) cursor buttons to select Channel Search

Press “OK”

to enter the sub menu.( Fig 5) Highlight “Search Type”

and use the ►/◄ buttons to select

“Manual Scan”. (Fig 6)

Press the ▼ button to select “Channel Number”

and enter the required channel number, using the

“Numeric”

buttons.

Press “OK”

to start the search. To stop search, press “EXIT”.

When search has finished the first channel on the Channel List will be displayed

Many aspects of the PVR can be set to reflect your circumstances

and preferences.

The System menu is accessed from the Main menu. Press the “Menu”

button and using the ▲/▼buttons

select “SYSTEM SETTING”

and press OK. The sub menu (Fig 7) will b e displayed.

System Setting

A/V Setting.

This menu allows the user to set the TV aspect ratio (Screen shape), Video output and OSD transparency.

To select A/V Setting use ▲/▼buttons. Press “OK”

to enter the sub menu. (Fig 8)

Press the ▲/▼buttons to select the required item and press the ►/◄ buttons to select the required setting.

First Time Installation.

This menu allows the user to delete all existing channels in the

PVR and reset the PVR to the “Factory

Default”

settings. ( Note :-

this is important when the Digital Stations are upgraded in your area).

Use the ▲/▼buttons select “FIRST TIME INSTALLATION”

and press OK. The sub menu (Fig 9) will be

displayed.

Press the ►/◄ buttons to select “Confirm”

or highlight “EXIT”

to cancel the selection.

System Info.

This menu allows the user to view the “Software version”

and “Hardware version”

of the PVR.

Use the ▲/▼buttons select “SYSTEM INFO”

and press OK. The sub menu (Fig 10) will be displayed.

Press “EXIT”

to return to normal viewing or “MENU”

to go one step backwards

Change Pin Code.

This menu allows the user to change the Pin Code. of the PVR.

Use the ▲/▼buttons select “CHANGE PIN CODE”

and press OK. The sub menu (Fig 11) will be

displayed.

Using the numeric buttons, enter the Old Pin code (Factory default number 6666).

Use the ▲/▼buttons to select New Pin Code and enter a new 4 digit number.

Use the ▲/▼buttons to select Enter Again and enter the same 4 digit number.

Press “OK”

to confirm. Keep this number in a safe place. Should you forget the number use the factory

default number.

Press “EXIT”

to return to normal viewing or “MENU”

to go one step backwards

DTR Setting

DTR Setting (Fig 12).

You can modify the “Time Shift”

duration, Format the Hard disc, Check the hard disc information

and set

the Auto Discard mode.

Time Shift Duration.

You may set the “Time Shift Duration”

to the options 30 / 60 / 90 / 120 minutes

Format Hard Disc.

If you replace the Hard Disc, it will be necessary to Format the

disc. It may arise that you need to erase

the disc. Formatting the HDD will ERASE ALL programme information.

HDD Information.

Displays the amount of disc space used and available.

Auto Discard Setting. (Fig 13).

When the HDD is full, erase the existing recordings as to their type, the choices are :-

Oldest, Shortest, Biggest. Select “Excluded”

to remove un viewed recordings, otherwise chose

“Included”.

OSD Setting.

You may set the OSD time “On”. You can set 5, 10, 15 and 20 seconds. After the set time the OSD will

turn Off.

Timers.

Follow the steps below to activate the Timer menu.

Press the “MENU”

button to display the Main menu (Fig 4)

Press the “UP”

or “DOWN”

(▲/▼) cursor buttons to select Timers

Press “OK”

to enter the Timers menu.( Fig14)

( When a start time is reached, the PVR starts to record or view

the required programme, when the “end

time”

is reached the recording will stop. You may filter the timers with the RED button and delete with

the “OK”

button.

Delete a Channel. (Fig 16)

Enter the Channel list as described above.

Press the ▲/▼buttons to highlight a channel

Press the “YELLOW”

button to delete the channel. (Note to undelete, you must perform a complete (Auto

Scan) or (Manual Scan) to re insert that channel.

Lock / Unlock a channel.

Enter the Channel list as described above.

Press the ▲/▼buttons to highlight a channel

Press the “BLUE”

button. You will be requested to enter your Pin Code and press “OK”

A “LOCK”

symbol will be then displayed next to that channel.

If that channel is selected, a LOCK symbol will be shown and a request to enter your Pin number.

Repeat the above to UNLOCK

Press “EXIT”

to exit the Channel List.

Channel List (Fig 15).

The Channel List shows a list of all the channels found during the channel search. From the list you can

watch or listen (TV/Radio) to the selected channel. You may also

delete unwanted channels or set a

password to view them.

Press the “MENU”

button to enter the Main Menu.

Use the ▲/▼buttons to highlight “CHANNEL LIST”.

Press “OK”

to enter the Channel List menu.

Press the ▲/▼buttons to highlight a channel

Press the “OK”

button to “preview”

the channel (see box in the right of screen).

Press “EXIT”

to quit the Channel List menu and view the selected channel on full screen.

Favourite List.

This menu allows the user to store a list of Favourite Channels to make it easier to access them.

With this PVR you may select up to five different lists, so each

member of your family may select their own

list.

Add Channels to Favourite List.

Press the “MENU”

button to enter the Main Menu.

Use the ▲/▼buttons to highlight “FAVOURITE LIST”.

Press the “OK”

button to enter the Favourite List menu (Fig 17).

Press the “RED”

button to select the desired Favourite List.

Use the ▲/▼buttons to highlight the required channel and press “OK”

to enter that channel into the list.

Press “EXIT”

to quit.

Press the “MENU”

button to enter the Main Menu.

Use the ▲/▼buttons to highlight “FAVOURITE LIST”.

Press the “OK”

button to enter the Favourite List menu (Fig 17).

Press the “RED”

button to select the desired Favourite List.

Use the ▲/▼buttons to highlight the required channel and press “OK”

to remove that channel from the list.

Press “EXIT”

to quit.

Accessing Favourite Channels.

Press the “FAVOURITE”

button to enter the Favourites list. (Fig 18).

Press the “RED”

button to select the required list.

Use the ▲/▼buttons to select the required channel.

Channel Schedules (EPG) (Fig 19)

From the channel schedule (EPG, Electronic Programme Guide), to can view the channels available, view

programme information, access one –

week programme schedules and programmes for the next seven

days.

Basic Operations

Press the “EPG”

button to show the Channel schedule

Press the “MENU”

button to switch to Timeline EPG

mode.

Press the “GOTO”

button to view or modify the option of

“Auto discard”.

Press “CH+/CH-

buttons to preview the current

programme on the selected channel and view the

current programme information.

Press the ►/◄ buttons to navigate the previous day or

next seven days.

Press the ▲/▼buttons to highlight the required

programme.

Press “OK”

to book the selected programme to play, and

to “Un book”

press “OK again.

To Record, press the “RECORD”

button. To un select

the Record mode, press the “RECORD”

button again.

To set the “Content Filter”

press the “BLUE”

button.

Press the “EXIT”

button or the EPG button to quit.

Time Line (EPG) (Fig 20).

Timeline EPG is another mode that is convenient for the

user to view the EPG. There is a “Timeline”

displayed to

mark the current time. This makes it easier to see

information about several services at the same time.

Press the “MENU”

button to switch to back to Schedule

mode.

Press the “GOTO”

button to view or modify the option of

“Auto discard”.

Press the ▲/▼buttons to highlight the required service.

Press the ►/◄ buttons to select the required

programme.

Press “YELLOW”

to view the events of the previous day

and the “BLUE”

button to view “next day”

events.

Press “OK”

to book the selected programme to play, and

to “Un book”

press “OK again.

To Record, press the “RECORD”

button. To un select

the Record mode, press the “RECORD”

button again.

Press “EXIT”

or EPG to quit the Timeline.

Changing Channels.

There are four ways of Channel Selection –

stepping through the channel list –

selection by number –

from the Channel schedule and using the on screen channel list.

Stepping through the channel list.

Press the P+ or P-

to browse the channels available.

Selection by number.

Enter the channel number directly using the numeric buttons 0 –

Selection by Channel schedule.

Press the “EPG”

button on the remote control to display the current days programme schedule.

Press the P+ or P-

buttons to select the desired channel. The Tv will display that

programme in the

window on the right side.

Press “EXIT”

to quit the EPG and view the programme full screen.

Selection by “on – screen” Channel list. (Fig 21).

Press the “MENU”

button on the remote control.

Use the ▲/▼buttons to select “CHANNEL LIST”

and press “OK”.

Use the ▲/▼buttons to move up and down the list.

Press “OK”

to select the required channel.

Press “EXIT”

to quit and view the selected channel.

Recall.

You may switch between the last selected and previously selected

channels by pressing the RECALL button on the remote Control

(see page 5).

Volume Control.

The Volume level may be set by the Vol+ / Vol

buttons on the

remote control.

You may silence the sound using the “MUTE”

button on the remote

control. Sound may be restored by pressing the Vol+ or Mute

button again.
