Getting to Know Your Silverado/Sierra 2-Mode Hybrid

Your Silverado or Sierra 2-Mode Hybrid

drives just like a regular vehicle, but it

has several fuel-saving features that

increase vehicle efficiency and maximize

fuel economy. The hybrid features of

your vehicle are enabled after the

engine warms up to proper operating

temperature.

Your 2-Mode Hybrid vehicle includes

electric motors housed in the electrically

variable hybrid transmission, a Vortec

V8 engine with Active Fuel Manage-

ment

™

and a 300-volt Energy Storage

System. The V8 engine is not designed

for E85 fuel.

A sophisticated electronic control

module selects the most efficient mode

of operation based on the amount of

power demanded by the driver and

battery charge level.

In the first mode, under light accelera-

tion and at speeds up to 30 mph, the

vehicle may be powered by only the

electric motors, the engine, or a

combination of both.

The fuel-saving electric-only feature is

referred to as Auto Stop. It will turn off

the engine until the driver requests

increased power or the hybrid battery

needs charging.

The second mode is used primarily at

highway speeds and when trailering, in

conjunction with the engine’s Active Fuel

Management, to optimize fuel economy

while providing power when conditions

demand it.

The hybrid battery stores power for use

when the vehicle’s engine is off while in

Auto Stop mode and supplies power for

the various electric motors used in the

2-Mode Hybrid system. The hybrid bat-

tery is recharged by the vehicle during

deceleration and while braking. It does

not need to be plugged into an

electrical outlet.

DRIVING YOUR HYBRID

Typical Hybrid Sounds

Your hybrid vehicle has several electric

motors, including the motors in the

transmission that help power the vehicle

and those in the Hybrid Energy Storage

System. At times, you may hear these

motors start up or stop, and they might

produce a slight whirring, humming or

blowing sound typical of electric motors.

These are normal sounds found on a

hybrid vehicle and may be more notice-

able when the vehicle is operating in the

Auto Stop mode with the engine off.

Your hybrid vehicle also does not make

an audible starter noise when starting

the vehicle. Therefore, it may seem to

take slightly longer to start than a non-

hybrid vehicle. If the key is not held

in the start position long enough, the

vehicle will not start, but the instrument

panel cluster warning lights will illumi-

nate, requiring the key to be turned to

the start position again. You may also

experience a slight hesitation when

selecting Reverse after starting the

vehicle.

The economy gauge shows when

vehicle fuel economy is being maxi-

mized. Driving with the needle in the

solid green area indicates driving

behavior that maximizes fuel economy.

Accelerating too aggressively will move

the needle to the right, while braking too

aggressively will move the needle to the

left. Either of these behaviors will move

the needle outside the green area,

indicating less fuel efficient driving.

Economy Gauge

The automatic engine stop/start feature,

known as Auto Stop, turns off the engine

at lower speeds until the Hybrid Energy

Storage System needs charging or the

driver requests increased power.

While the vehicle is in Auto Stop mode,

the needle on the tachometer moves

to the AUTO STOP position. The oil

pressure gauge also will drop to zero.

While lightly accelerating, the vehicle will

be propelled only by the electric motors.

During heavy acceleration, both the

engine and electric motors supply

power. A sensation similar to a transmis-

sion gear change may be felt as the

Operation

The Engine Will Remain

Running When:

The engine will remain running under

certain conditions. Some conditions that

will lead to an engine Auto Stop override

include:

• Driving in Reverse.

• The engine or transmission is not yet

warmed up.

• The transmission temperature or

Energy Storage System (ESS)

temperature is high.

• The engine is required to run to help

achieve the selected climate control

heating and/or cooling setting.

• The Hybrid ESS charge is low.

• The hood is not fully closed.

• The Check Engine light is illuminated.

• When playing the radio or using

electrical accessories with the vehicle

off, do not leave the key in the ACC

position for more than 30 minutes.

Instead, leave the vehicle running

and rely on the Auto Stop feature to

supply power.

While in Auto Stop, all of the regular

vehicle features are available, such as

power steering and brakes, the audio

system and power accessories.

After parking the vehicle and turning off

the engine by rotating the key to the Off

position, the tachometer needle will

move to the Off position.

Hybrid Energy Storage System

Your vehicle has a standard 12-volt

battery located under the hood, and a

300-volt Hybrid Energy Storage System

(ESS) located under the second-row

seat. The Hybrid ESS provides power

to the electric motors and will recharge

itself as necessary when idling, driving,

and/or when braking efficiently. The

vehicle will charge and discharge the

high voltage ESS when it is most

efficient to do so.

Regenerative Braking

Regenerative braking recaptures some of

the energy from the moving vehicle when

coasting or braking and turns it into elec-

trical energy. This energy is stored in the

ior is a big contributor to your vehicle’s

fuel economy. Modifying your driving

habits will improve your fuel mileage.

Here are several fuel-saving tips:

• Combine short trips to minimize cold

engine starts, which reduce fuel

economy.

• Avoid quick starts and stops.

• Accelerate moderately and drive at

a steady speed.

• Anticipate traffic flow and brake

moderately or coast.

• Use the air conditioning and defrost

modes only when necessary.

Maximizing Fuel Economy

• Minimize electrical accessory opera-

tion by turning off items such as the

rear defogger when they are not

needed.

• Use the remote start feature sparingly

(if equipped). This feature turns the

engine on, consuming fuel at idle.

• Do not warm up the engine by idling.

Even on the coldest days, driving will

help the engine warm up faster.

• Selecting the AUTO feature on 4WD

models is less economical than 2WD.

• Unload unnecessary cargo to reduce

the amount of weight in the vehicle.

• Regularly check and maintain proper

tire pressure.

• Maintain your vehicle to keep it

running cleaner and more efficiently.

With the engine off in Auto Stop mode,

certain conditions will require the engine

to restart. Some conditions that will lead

to an engine restart include:

• The accelerator pedal is applied,

demanding heavy acceleration.

This will not occur when the vehicle

is in Park.

• The engine is required to run to help

achieve the selected climate control

heating and/or cooling setting.

• The Hybrid Energy Storage System

charge becomes low and requires

recharging.

• Shifting into Reverse.

• When the hood is unlatched or open.

The Engine Will Restart When:

Your vehicle has an electrically powered

air conditioning compressor that

provides continuous air conditioning

operation and passenger comfort while

the engine cycles on and off.

When operating the climate control

system, select the AUTO mode and the

desired temperature setting to allow the

system to automatically adjust fan speed

and airflow direction. In the AUTO mode,

the system adjusts to make the most

efficient use of electrical power.

To get the most engine off time and the

highest fuel savings, select a higher

temperature setting or turn off the air

conditioning. Continuous air conditioning

use can cause the engine to start more

frequently when in the Auto Stop mode.

Due to the quiet operation of the

vehicle, especially when the engine has

turned off, some noise may be heard

occasionally from the air conditioning

compressor.

Electric Air Conditioning

To view the hybrid system information

on the Navigation Entertainment System

(if equipped), press the MENU hard key,

and then touch the Hybrid screen button.

The hybrid screen has icons of an

engine, battery, transmission and

wheels. While the vehicle is in operation,

these icons will change color indicating

the source of power to the transmission

and, ultimately, the wheels. Power can

be provided entirely by the engine,

electric motors, or a combination of

both. An icon will also indicate when

the battery is being recharged by the

regenerative braking system. A text box

at the bottom of the screen will indicate

the current method of power.

Hybrid System Information

In emergency situations, First

Responders can disable the 300-volt

Hybrid Energy Storage System by cutting

the 12-volt battery cables that are clearly

labeled in the engine compartment.

for use by the hybrid system, contributing

to increased fuel economy.

The computer-controlled braking system

blends the operation of regenerative

braking with the conventional hydraulic

disc brakes. The system applies the

brakes through a high pressure accu-

mulator. You may hear the motor-driven

pump when it recharges the accumulator

pressure. This recharging cycle is normal.

Pumping the brake pedal repeatedly uses

the reserved accumulator pressure more

quickly.

1. With the vehicle in Park, turn on the

ignition.

2. Press the (Customization) button

to display available customization

features.

3. With the desired customization

feature displayed, press the

(Set/Reset) button to access the

feature settings.

4. Press the button to scroll through

the available settings.

5. With the desired setting displayed,

press the button to select it.

6. Press the button to scroll to the

next feature.

7. To exit the Feature Settings menu,

press the button until EXIT

Driver Information Center

Your vehicle’s Driver Information

Center (DIC) provides vehicle informa-

tion, vehicle feature customization

(if equipped), and vehicle warning

messages. The DIC messages will be

shown on the instrument panel cluster

display.

DIC Buttons

The following

left side of the

(Trip/Fuel):

Press this button

to display the

outside tempera-

ture, compass, odometer, trip odometer,

fuel range, average economy, fuel used,

timer, transmission temperature,

instantaneous economy, Active Fuel

Management™, and battery voltage.

(Vehicle Information): Press

this button to display the oil life,

English/Metric units, tire pressures,

engine hours, Remote Keyless Entry

programming and compass settings.

(Customization): Press this button to

customize certain vehicle features to your

preference.

Compass Operation

Refer to your Owner Manual to adjust

for compass variance when traveling on

a long-distance trip or to calibrate the

compass.

Warning Lights

The DIC provides a variety of vehicle

messages (depending on optional equip-

ment) as well as warnings if a problem

is sensed in a vehicle system.

• To acknowledge a message and clear

it from the display, press any of the

DIC buttons. Some urgent messages

cannot be cleared from the DIC

display.

If you have a current OnStar

subscription and a warning message

appears, you can press the blue OnStar

button and speak to an OnStar Advisor.

In many vehicles, OnStar Advisors can

access certain diagnostic information

and can tell you how serious the condi-

tion is and what you should do about it.

provide critical information that can

prevent damage to your vehicle. Review

your Owner Manual to become familiar

with the information and the action

SAFETY & SECURITY

Remote Keyless Entry

The Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) trans-

mitter includes the following functions:

(Lock): Press this button to lock all

the doors. RKE feedback (light flash

and/or horn chirp) can be programmed

using the DIC.

(Unlock): Press this button to unlock

the driver’s door. If the button is pressed

again within five seconds, all remaining

doors will unlock. RKE feedback (light

flash and/or horn chirp) can be pro-

grammed using the DIC.

(Vehicle Locator/Panic Alarm):

Press this button to locate your vehicle.

The turn signal lamps will flash and the

horn will sound three times.

Press and hold the button to activate

the panic alarm. The turn signal lamps

will flash and the horn will sound for

30 seconds. Press the button again or

turn the ignition to Run to cancel the

panic alarm.

The power and manual seat controls are

located on the outboard side of the seat.

Lumbar Adjustment

• Turn the manual lumbar adjustment

knob (A) to adjust lumbar support.

Power Seat Adjustment

• Use the power seat control (B) to

move the seat forward or rearward

and to raise or lower the front or rear

of the seat cushion.

Recline Adjustment

• Lift the manual recline adjustment

lever (C) to adjust the position of the

seatback.

(if equipped)

Your vehicle may feature the OnStar

Safe & Sound Plan or the uplevel

OnStar Directions & Connections Plan,

with one year of OnStar service from the

date you purchased your new vehicle.

OnStar offers a variety of capabilities,

such as Remote Door Unlock, Automatic

Crash Response, and Hands-Free

Calling. In addition, most vehicles can

get driving directions using Turn-by-Turn

Navigation or Destination Download.

OnStar Advisors can send a planned

route to your vehicle and, as you

approach a turn, instructions play over

the speakers or are displayed on the

navigation screen (if equipped).

Press the OnStar button to ask an

OnStar Advisor about the service plan

you have or to upgrade your plan. For

Seat Adjustments

To help block the glare of the sun, the

sun visor can be detached from the

center mount and moved along the

slide rod.

ABC

Sun Visor Adjustment

The content theft-deterrent alarm system

will not be armed or disarmed if the

doors are locked or unlocked with a key

or the manual door lock.

• To arm the system, lock the doors

using the RKE transmitter. The

security light on the instrument panel

cluster will flash for approximately

30 seconds and then turn off,

indicating the alarm is activated.

• To disarm the system, unlock the

doors using the RKE transmitter.

Content Theft-Deterrent System

(Airflow Mode): Press the up or

down button to change the direction

of the airflow as well as to select the

defog mode.

PASS (Passenger Temperature

Control): Press this button to turn off

the passenger temperature setting.

(Air Conditioning): Press this

button to turn the air conditioning system

on or off.

(Recirculation): Press this button

to recirculate inside air through the

vehicle. This mode keeps outside air

from entering the vehicle.

(Outside Air): Press this button to

allow outside air to enter the vehicle.

(Defrost): Press this button to

direct most of the air to the windshield

and some air to the side window outlets.

(Rear Window Defogger)

(if equipped): Press this button to

activate the rear window defogger and

the heated outside rearview mirrors

(if equipped). The defogger and/or

heated mirrors will shut off automatically

or can be turned off by pressing the

button again.

Automatic Climate Controls

The automatic climate control system

is able to maintain the desired individual

temperature for the driver and front

seat passenger. The system adjusts

the airflow mode, fan speed, air condi-

tioning and recirculation functions to

reach the set temperature(s) as quickly

as possible.

To set the automatic mode:

1. Press the AUTO button.

2. Set the driver’s and front passenger’s

temperature using the + or – temper-

ature buttons.

Manual Operation

To operate the system manually, use the

following controls:

(On/Off): Press this button to turn the

system on or off.

+ – (Temperature Control): Press the

+ or – temperature button(s) to raise or

lower the temperature setting(s).

(Fan): Press the up or down arrow to

increase or decrease fan speed.

While most of the features on your radio

will look familiar, following are some that

may be new:

(Power/Volume): Press this knob to

turn the system on or off. Turn the knob

to adjust the volume.

(Tune): Turn this knob to select radio

stations or, when a CD is playing, to

select a track or MP3 file. Press the

knob to adjust the tone (bass/treble) or

speakers (balance/fade).

(Information): Press this button to

switch the display between the radio

station frequency and the time. If

equipped, press this button to display

additional text information related to the

current FM-RDS or XM station, or MP3

song.

BAND: Press this button to switch to

AM, FM, or XM (if equipped). With a CD

playing, press this button to switch to

the radio.

CD/AUX: Press this button to play a CD

instead of the radio. Press again and the

system will automatically search for an

auxiliary input device such as a portable

audio player.

ENTERTAINMENT

Audio System Features

(Non-Navigation Radios only)

FAV (Favorite): Press this button to go

through up to six pages of any combina-

tion (AM, FM, or XM, if equipped) of

preset favorite radio stations. On each

page, up to six stations are available by

using the six pushbuttons below the

radio display.

MENU: Press this button to access the

radio setup menu.

CAT (Category): Press this button to

find XM stations (if equipped) within a

desired category.

Auxiliary Input Jack: A portable audio

player, such as an MP3 player or a

cassette player, can be connected to the

auxiliary input jack located on the radio.

Press the CD/AUX button to begin

playing audio from the player over the

vehicle speakers. To optimize speaker

volume, fully increase the volume on the

portable audio player.

Setting Favorite Stations

Before setting your favorite stations,

shift the vehicle into Park.

You can set up to six pages of any com-

bination (AM, FM, or XM, if equipped)

of favorite radio stations, with up to six

stations stored on each page.

Note: Engaging in extended searching

for specific audio stations or songs by

using buttons and knobs — or giving

extended attention to entertainment

tasks — can lead you to look away from

the road frequently or for prolonged

periods, which may cause you to miss

seeing things on the road that you need

to see. Avoid engaging in extended

searching for specific items while driving.

To set the number of favorite station

pages:

1. Press the MENU button to display the

radio setup menu.

2. Press the pushbutton located below

the FAV 1–6 label on the radio

display.

3. Select the desired number of favorite

station pages.

4. Press the FAV button. You may now

begin storing your favorite stations for

the chosen number of pages.

To store favorite stations:

1. Press the BAND button to select the

band (AM, FM, or XM, if equipped).

2. Tune in the desired radio station.

3. Press the FAV button to display the

page where the station is to be

stored.

4. Press and hold one of the six push-

buttons until a beep sounds.

5. Repeat the steps for each pushbutton

on each page.

Setting the Time

To set the time:

1. Turn on the radio.

2. Press the (Clock) button. Or,

if equipped, press the MENU button

until the clock option is displayed;

and then press the pushbutton locat-

ed under the clock option label. The

HR, MIN, MM, DD, YYYY labels will

appear on the display.

3. Press the pushbutton under any of

the labels to be changed.

4. Press the pushbutton again, the right

SEEK arrow or the FWD button to

increase the numbers. Press the left

SEEK arrow or the REV button to

decrease the numbers. Rotating the

(Tune) knob also will increase or

decrease the selected label.

5. Press the Clock or MENU button

again to set the currently displayed

time and date.

Radio Data System

When you tune to a Radio Data System

(RDS) station, the station name or

call letters will appear on the display

instead of the frequency. Depending

on the RDS station, additional text infor-

mation may be available by pressing the

(Information) button.

RDS features are available for use only

on FM stations that broadcast RDS

information. RDS relies on receiving

specific information from these stations

and will work only when the information

is available.

The Navigation Entertainment System

provides you with detailed maps of all

major highways and roads throughout

the United States and Canada. In

addition, the system offers a variety of

enhanced audio features and hybrid

system information.

To operate the system, press the hard

keys next to the touch screen to access

the main menus. Touch the words or

commands shaped like a button in the

on-screen menus and submenus to

select system functions.

The controls and hard keys of the

system include:

(Power/Volume): Press this knob to

turn the system on or off. Turn the knob

to adjust the volume.

(Tune/Sound): Press this knob to

change tone/speaker positions or audio

settings. Turn the knob to tune in a radio

station.

NAV (Navigation): Press this key to

view the map screen.

DEST (Destination): Press this key to

(SEEK): Press these keys to

seek radio stations, CD tracks or DVD

chapters.

Setting Radio Station Presets

You can set up to six pages of any com-

bination (AM, FM, or XM, if equipped)

of preset radio stations, with up to five

stations on each page.

To set the number of favorite station

pages:

1. Press the MENU hard key to access

the menu screen.

2. Touch the Radio screen button.

3. Touch the FAV (Number of Preset

Pages) screen button.

4. Touch the desired number of preset

pages.

To preset radio stations:

1. Press the AUDIO hard key to access

the audio source screen and select

the desired band (AM, FM, or XM,

if equipped).

Note: Engaging in extended searching

for specific audio stations or songs by

using buttons and knobs — or giving

extended attention to entertainment

tasks — can lead you to look away from

the road frequently or for prolonged

periods, which may cause you to miss

seeing things on the road that you need

to see. Avoid engaging in extended

searching for specific items while driving.

The in-vehicle Bluetooth system allows

users with a Bluetooth-enabled cell

phone to make and receive hands-free

phone calls using the vehicle’s audio

system, microphone and controls. The

Bluetooth-enabled cell phone must be

paired with the in-vehicle Bluetooth sys-

tem before it can be used in the vehicle.

Not all phones will support all functions.

Bluetooth

System (if equipped)

2. Use the SEEK hard keys or the Tune

knob to select a station.

3. Press the FAV hard key to select the

desired page of presets (up to six

pages).

4. Touch and hold one of the five radio

preset screen buttons until a beep

sounds or the station is displayed on

the screen button.

Entering a Destination

Before entering a navigation destination,

shift the vehicle into Park.

To set a destination by entering a street

address:

1. Press the DEST hard key.

2. Set or verify the search area corre-

sponds with the final destination.

3. Touch the Address Entry screen

button.

4. Touch the City or Street screen

button and use the on-screen

alpha keypad to enter the city or

street name.

5. Touch the List screen button to select

the desired city or street from a list of

matches with the same name.

6. Touch the House # screen button and

enter the house number.

7. Touch the Go screen button to enter

as a destination.

8. Touch the Start Guidance screen

button.

Getting to Know Your Silverado/Sierra 2-Mode Hybrid

The Rear Seat Audio (RSA) system

allows front seat and rear seat passen-

gers to listen to different entertainment

sources at the same time using the rear

seat controls and wired headphones

(not supplied) or wireless headphones

(if equipped).

• Press the SRCE (Source) button to

select an entertainment source.

• Turn the left or right volume knob to

adjust the volume of the left or right

wired headphones.

Audio Steering Wheel Controls

The following

audio controls

are located on

the right side

of the steering

wheel:

+ – (Volume):

Pull up on the

+ or – button

to increase or

decrease the

volume.

(Next/Previous/End): Press the

up or down arrow to go to the

next or previous radio station stored as

a favorite or, when a CD is playing, to

the next or previous track. Press the

(End) button to end or reject an

OnStar or Bluetooth call.

SRCE (Source): Press this button

to switch between AM, FM, XM

(if equipped), CD and AUX. Press

and hold the button for one second to

initiate the navigation system voice

recognition (if equipped).

(Seek): Press this button to go to the

next radio station.

(Mute/Push to Talk): Press this

button to mute the vehicle speakers.

Press and hold the button for two sec-

onds to interact with the OnStar or

Bluetooth system (if equipped).

The Automatic Headlamp System turns

on the Daytime Running Lamps (DRLs)

in the daytime and the headlamps and

other exterior lamps at night or when

necessary.

The system

uses a light

sensor,

located on

top of the

instrument

panel, to

determine

light condi-

tions. For

proper operation, avoid placing any

objects on or near the sensor.

Exterior Lamps Control

The exterior lamps control knob, located

on the left side of the instrument panel,

can be rotated to the following positions:

AUTO (Automatic Lamp Control):

This position turns on the Automatic

Headlamp System and DRLs.

(Off/On): Turn the knob to this posi-

tion to turn off the Automatic Headlamp

System and DRLs. Turn the knob to this

position again to turn them on.

(Parking Lamps): This position

turns on the parking lamps and

taillamps.

(Headlamps): This position turns on

the headlamps and other exterior lamps.

Auto Turn Signal

The turn signal lever includes an auto-

matic lane change signal feature.

• To signal a lane change, raise or

lower the lever until the arrow on the

instrument panel cluster starts to

flash; then release the lever. The

turn signal will automatically

flash three times.

• To signal a turn, move the lever all

the way up or down.

Interior Lamps

The following interior lamp controls are

located on the left side of the instrument

panel:

(Instrument Panel Brightness):

Turn this pop-out knob to adjust the

brightness of the instrument panel lights.

Turn the knob fully clockwise to turn on

the dome lamps and cargo lamps.

(Dome Lamp Override): Press in

this button to have the dome

lamps remain off when a door is open.

Press the button again to have the

dome lamps turn on automatically when

a door is open.

Getting to Know Your Silverado/Sierra 2-Mode Hybrid

The controls for the windshield wipers

are located on the multifunction lever

on the left side of the steering column.

The wipers band can be rotated to the

following positions:

(Mist): Rotate the band down to this

position to turn the wipers on for one

wipe.

(Off): Rotate the band to this position

to turn off the wipers.

(Delay): Rotate the band up to one

of the delay settings to adjust the

amount of delay between wipes. The

wipers activate more often as the band

is rotated upward. The wipers will only

wipe once if it is not raining and the

vehicle is equipped with the

Rainsense™ II System.

(Low): Rotate the band up to this

position for steady, low-speed wipes.

(High): Rotate the band up to this

position for rapid, high-speed wipes.

(Washer): Push the paddle on top

of the multifunction lever to spray wash-

er fluid on the windshield.

Windshield Wipers Cruise Control

The following

cruise control

buttons are

located on the

left side of the

steering

wheel:

(On/Off):

Press this

button to

turn the

cruise control

system on or off.

SET – (Set): Press this button to set a

speed, or to decrease the speed if the

system is active. When the cruise con-

trol speed is set, the cruise control light

will illuminate on the instrument cluster.

RES + (Resume): Press this button to

resume a set speed, or to increase the

speed if the system is active.

(Cancel): Press this button to

cancel the cruise control but retain the

set speed in memory.

Universal Home Remote

(if equipped)

The Universal Home Remote is a

combined universal transmitter and

receiver that can activate up to three

devices, such as garage door openers,

entry door locks, gates and security

systems. It’s recommended that you

read the instructions in your Owner

Manual completely before attempting to

program any of the three channels on

the Universal Home Remote. The

engine should be turned off when

programming the remote.

See Section 2 of your Owner Manual.

Note: Do not use the Universal Home

Remote with any garage door opener

that does not have the “stop and

reverse” feature or any opener

manufactured before April 1, 1982.

This feature uses

ultrasonic sensors

built into the rear

bumper cover to

help you avoid col-

liding with objects

when parking the vehicle. It operates

only at speeds less than 5 mph.

The rear parking assist display is

located near the rear window on the

passenger side. The lights on the

display provide distance information.

Low-toned continuous beeps play out of

the speakers when objects are within

23 inches (0.6 m) of the rear bumper.

• To turn the system off or back on,

press the (Rear Parking Assist)

button located below the climate

controls on the instrument panel. The

indicator light will illuminate when the

system is off.

Sunroof (if equipped)

The power sunroof switch, located on

the overhead console, includes these

features:

(Vent): From the closed position,

press and hold the rear of the switch

to vent the sunroof.

(Open): From the vent position,

press and hold the rear of the switch

to open the sunroof.

(Close): Press and hold the front of

the switch to close the sunroof.

Ultrasonic Rear Parking Assist

(if equipped)

Note: The Ultrasonic Rear Parking

Assist system will not activate if you

have a trailer hitch or trailer attached to

your vehicle, or a bicycle or other object

is hanging out of your vehicle. The

system may also be disabled if dirt,

snow or ice builds up on the sensors.

When you enter the vehicle after a

remote start, the key must be inserted in

the ignition and turned to the Run posi-

tion before driving.

Canceling a Remote Start

To turn off the engine instead of driving

after a remote start, do any of the

following:

• Press and hold the button until the

parking lamps turn off.

• Press and release the Hazard

Warning Flashers button. Press it

again to turn off the flashers.

• Turn the key in the ignition switch to

the Run position and then off.

Getting to Know Your Silverado/Sierra 2-Mode Hybrid

Remote Vehicle Start

(if equipped)

This feature allows you to start the

engine from outside the vehicle by using

the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) trans-

mitter. The engine will initially start and,

if it is not needed by the hybrid system,

will go into Auto Stop mode.

The remote start capability must be

turned on using the Driver Information

Center. The vehicle’s automatic climate

control system will default to a heating

or cooling mode based on outside

temperature.

Starting the Vehicle

To remote-start the vehicle:

1. Aim the RKE transmitter at the

vehicle. (Transmitter range is within

approximately 200 feet of the

vehicle.)

2. Press and release the (Lock)

button on the transmitter.

3. Immediately press and hold the

(Remote Vehicle Start) button for

about four seconds. When the park-

ing lamps flash, release the button.

The engine will start and the parking

lamps will remain on. The engine will

continue running for 10 minutes.

4. Repeat these steps for a 10-minute

time extension. Only two consecutive

remote starts are allowed.

Note: The Remote Vehicle Start feature

will not operate if the key is in the

ignition, the hood is open, or the Check

Engine light is illuminated on the

instrument cluster.
