1. INTRODUCING THE ELGAR LIBRARY MANAGER
The ELGAR Library Manager provides a single management window to which you can ‘add-in’ any of the
various Midas Klark Teknik remote programming software applications that are installed on your
laptop/PC. By opening multiple Add-Ins within ELGAR, you can work on settings for the various MIDAS
and Klark Teknik devices (for example, console, equalisers etc.) associated with a show at the same
time and save them all in a single show file. At your next session, opening just the one file recalls all
the Add-Ins together, hence, the time you spend managing show files is minimised.
The management functions of ELGAR cover:
File tools (create, open, close and save files)
Access to Add-In software applications
System configuration options (file defaults and port connections)

2. INSTALLING ELGAR
2.1. Minimum System Requirements
Operating System: Windows 2000 or Windows XP.
Computer/Laptop: Display resolution minimum 1024 X 768 pixels set at 96 DPI
Pentium 3 500Mhz (or equivalent)
256MB RAM
Minimum 20MB of free memory on hard drive
Software: The following software must be installed prior to installing the ELGAR Library
Manager:
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 available at
http://microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=262D25E3-F589-4842-
8157-034D1E7CF3A3&displaylang=en.
2.2. Software Installation
The ELGAR Library Manager is provided as an .exe file from the MIDAS website
(www.midasconsoles.com) with an integral Set-up Wizard that guides you through the installation
process on your laptop/PC.
Note
We recommend that you save the .exe file to your desktop (or other holding folder) rather than
opening the file while the Internet transfer is in progress. This will avoid the possibility of the
integral Set-up Wizard interrupting the transfer, especially on slower Internet connections.
Once you have downloaded the .exe file, install it on your laptop/PC as follows:
1 Run the Elgar2_60.exe file. The Set-up Wizard should appear on screen within a few seconds.
2 Follow the on-screen instructions, using the preset defaults at each screen, that is, Destination
Directory set to “C:\Program Files\Klark Teknik Group\ELGAR” and ‘Create a desktop icon’
selected. Note that the Wizard Information page details the latest improvements to the
software; previous users may find this particularly useful.
3 When the installation is successfully completed, click Finish to exit the Wizard. An ELGAR
Software icon should now be on your desktop.
The following sections provide an introductory overview and reference for the management tools
provided by ELGAR. Contextual use of ELGAR is described as required in the User Guides for the
associated Add-In software applications.
Quick reference information about the installed devices, their
software versions and useful support contacts can be found under
Help>About.

4. MANAGING FILES WITH ELGAR
File management commands are provided via the File menu.
The commands are typical of those used in many popular
software packages, enabling you to open, close, save files, list
recent files etc. Files are saved with a “.KTG” extension.
ELGAR’s Default Directory: When opening or saving files,
ELGAR automatically points you to the ELGAR folder that it
created under the global Program Files directory on your C:
drive (that is, C:\Program Files\Klark Teknik Group\ELGAR).
Automatic Backups: ELGAR automatically turns overwritten
files into the latest Backups; these have a “.BAK” extension and
are stored in the ELGAR folder in a Backup subfolder. To open a
backup file, you must first rename it with a “.KTG” file
extension.
Use the commands on the drop-down File menu as follows:
Choose… To…
New >
KT Group Library
Create a new ‘blank’ show file to which you can add-in multiple devices. The
file is initially named “Untitled”. If a show file is already open, it is automatically
closed with a prompt to save recent changes if necessary.
Open
Open a previously saved show file from your KT Group Library. If a show
file is already open, it is automatically closed with a prompt to save recent
changes if necessary.
Close
Close the current show file. If you have made recent changes, you are
prompted to save them first.
Save
Save the recent changes that you have made to the Add-Ins. If the
current show file is “Untitled” you will be pointed to Save As instead, so that you
can enter a new file name.
Save As
Save the open show file under a new file name, so that the current file will
still be available, for example, when using an existing file as a template for a
new file.
Recent Files
Quickly reopen a file you have worked on recently. A list of the most
recent files you have worked in appears when you move the cursor onto the
Recent Files command. Click on the required file to open it. The number of recent
files remembered by ELGAR can be changed in the System Configurations
Options (see Section 6.); default is five files.
Exit
Shut ELGAR down. You are prompted to save any recent changes to the show
file.

5. ADDING/REMOVING DEVICES IN ELGAR
ELGAR allows you to open and easily manage a number of Add-In
devices at a time, so that you can work concurrently on remotely
programming settings for various Midas and Klark Teknik devices
associated with a show.
The commands for adding and removing the devices to/from your
current file are located on the Tools Menu (highlighted in diagram
left).
Note
The Add-In software must be previously installed into the C:\Program Files\Klark Teknik Group
directory. ELGAR searches this directory at start-up. Add-Ins that are installed elsewhere will
not be found automatically.
To open a new ‘instance’ of an Add-In device
1 Select Tools > Add Device to reveal a list of all the Add-Ins
that have been installed in the default Klark Teknik
Group directory.
2 Click on the required device.
Once a device type has been selected, a pop-up window appears allowing the number of devices to be
added.
3 Select the number of devices to be added from the
drop down list.
4 When the appropriate number has been selected, click
on OK.
A new instance of the Add-In device is opened as the active window in the foreground of the ELGAR
workspace. Please refer to the User Guide of the particular Add-In Device for guidance on how to
program settings within the Add-In window.
To remove an ‘instance’ of an Add-In device,
1 Select the Tools > Remove Device to reveal a list of all
the device windows that are currently open in
ELGAR.
2 Click on the required device to close its window.

6. CHANGING FILE DEFAULTS
For saving and opening files etc., the ELGAR Library Manager defaults to the ELGAR and Backup folders
that it created inside your Klark Teknik Group directory on installation. If you prefer to store your show
files in different location (for example, in a concerts folder), you can
tell ELGAR to point there instead. You can also choose whether to
automatically open the last used file on start-up and how many files
ELGAR recalls in the Recent Files list (File > Recent files).
File default paths, number of items on the Recent Files list and port
connections for ELGAR are set via the System Configuration options
screen that is accessed from the Tools menu (left).
To view the file defaults
1 Select Tools > Options to open the System Configuration screen.
2 Click on + to expand the Environment category (if not already expanded).
3 Select General Settings.
For General Settings, the System Configuration screen appears as shown below.

7. CONFIGURING PORT CONNECTIONS TO ADD-IN DEVICES
*ELGAR Update* Previously, ELGAR allowed each Add-In device to choose its own
communication setting; the new version exerts tighter controls to ensure different
device types are not configured to the same port. The ELGAR Communications Manager
will be expanded to accommodate future communications protocols as they arise.
Connections between the Add-In devices and their physical
counterparts (that is, Com Ports, IP addresses etc) are set in the
System Configuration, under the Communications, Routing options.
To view the Communications, Routing options
1 Select Tools > Options to open the System Configuration screen.
2 Click on the + to expand the Communications category.
3 Select Routing.
The Routing options are presented in the System Configuration screen as shown below. Currently
configured communication ports are detailed in the upper part of right-hand panel, while currently open
Add-In devices are detailed in the lower part.
Ports can be named to suit your needs. Once configured, any one of the Add-Ins from the List of
Devices may be assigned to the port. If you have more devices than available ports (ELGAR queries
port availability at start-up), the extra devices are left ‘Not Assigned’.

Re-using Port Configurations
To enable typical configurations to be quickly set up, the Communications Ports list can be exported to a
file and imported again in future sessions. If there are less Port resources available when the file is
imported, then the port will be flagged as a missing resource and the previously assigned device will be
marked as Not Assigned.
To save the current port configurations to file
1 Click Export to open the Export Port
Configurations screen. By default, this accesses
your ELGAR folder.
2 If required, expand the directory tree by double
clicking folder levels until you reach the folder in
which you prefer to store configurations.
3 Type in a File name.
4 Click Save.
A configuration file is created with a “.PRT” extension.
To import previously saved port configurations
1 Click on Import to look up your ELGAR folder.
2 Type in the required File name with “.PRT” extension
or locate and select the file in the directory tree.
3 Click Open.
The Communications Ports list is overwritten with the new configuration. It the currently available Port
resources do not match the imported configuration, the missing resources are flagged and the
respective add-in devices are marked as ‘Not Assigned’
If you make physical changes to the port connections on your system while using ELGAR,
always reset/initialise the ports as follows:
1 Click Port Finder; the Find Ports and Ethernet Device Information window appears (see below).
2 Click Search For New Ports.
3 Click Yes to confirm or No to cancel.
4 After search has finished, “Finished” will be displayed in bottom left-hand of window. Press Exit
to exit window.
ELGAR queries the operating system and incorporates the latest port information.

8. MANAGING ADD-IN WINDOWS
The ELGAR Library Manager is designed to enable you to concurrently work with multiple Add-In devices
and save the settings for all of them in a single .KTG file. Generally, however, you will only want to
have one or two of the Add-In devices visible in the ELGAR workspace, while the others are hidden.
Hiding/Showing Add-In devices is managed via the Windows options on the ELGAR Main Menu bar.
Clicking on the Window menu opens a list of all the Add-In
devices that are currently active within ELGAR. The list shows
both the type of each device and the name you have assigned
it.
To hide/unhide an Add-In device
1 Chose Window from the Main Menu to open a list of all the Add-In devices associated with the file
that you are currently editing in ELGAR. The list details both the type of device and the name
that you have assigned it.
2 Click on an Add-In device to toggle it between being visible (ticked) or hidden (not ticked).
Ticked devices are currently visible either as a full or minimised window. Devices that are not ticked are
completely hidden from view.
-- and X may also be used to minimise and hide the window, respectively.
Note
Always review the Add-In list when you first re-open a show file, so that you are aware of the
hidden Add-Ins.
