4. Scanning Barcodes
Press and hold the Camera key (with Fn lock enabled) on
your PS236 to start scanning. Aim the lens at the barcode
so that the red scan beam covers the entire barcode.
Upon a successful scan, the system beeps and the LED
indicator lights green.

1. Overview
This 1D Barcode Reader module allows PS236 Extend
Version models to scan 1D barcodes for data capture. It
supports the most popular 1D barcode symbologies.
2. Hardware Installation
1. Turn off PS236.
2. Remove the rubber cap on top
of PS236 by unfastening two
screws.
3. Align and insert the Mini-PCIE
connector of the module all
the way into the Expansion
Port of PS236.
4. Secure the module with the
two screws previously removed.
5. Turn on PS236.

System Æ
Serial Port Switch
and select Use
expansion port to use the newly
installed module.
3. Software Installation
A sample application program called DataExtractor
provides fundamental functions and settings for this
Barcode Reader. In case you need more functions, you can
use appropriate APIs to develop your own program.
Software Development Kits (SDK) and sample applications
are available on Getac website.
To install DataExtractor:
1. Make sure that the OS version of your PS236 is 1.027
or above. Tap

Information Æ Software Version ÆROM Image
Version to check the OS version.
2. Download the software package for this module from
http://www.getac.com Æ Client Support Æ Download.
3. Decompress the downloaded package and you will get
a .cab file, together with other files.
4. Copy the .cab file to your PS236. On your PS236, browse
to the file and double tap it. Follow the onscreen
instructions to complete the installation. You will then
see DataExtractor in the programs list.

manual file (a part of the software package).
