The following table explains the print mode information for the HP Designjet Z Series

The way to read the information is as follows:
•
Columns contain the information by media. Print mode information is grouped
into different types of media (specified under the column name).
•
Rows contain the print mode info for each combination of media and print
quality (Fast, Normal, Best –default-, best with extra passes and with max
detail)
• Each cell contain the info as follows:
o
Render resolution (in dpi): At which resolution the image is processed
o
Output Resolution: (in dpi, horizontal x vertical) At which resolution the
image is printed
o
# passes (ps) & Unidirectional /bidirectional:
# Passes needed to complete a swath (swath is the wide of a
printhead). As higher the number, as less defects in IQ, slower.
Also, papers like glossy that needs more dry time, will require a
higher # passes.
Uni/Bidi: if the carriage drops inks jut from right to left or also
when he returns to the left. If uni, usually better for IQ, slower.
o
Carriage speed (in inches per second): how fast the carriage move from
right to left.
