IMPORTANT
The installation of this appliance must comply with all local regulations, including those referring to National
and European Standards before it can be operated. The stove is not suitable for a shared flue. However, for England
and Wales, only, the coming into force on 1st April 2002 of SI 2002 No 440 exempts the householder from this legal
requirement for the installation of solid fuel fired appliance whose rated heat output is 50kW or less in a building
having no more than 3 storeys (excluding any basement) if a Competent Engineer is employed who is registered
under the Registration Scheme for Companies and Engineers involved in the Installation and Maintenance of
Domestic Solid Fuel Fired Equipment operated by HETAS Ltd. These registered Competent Engineers may also carry
out associated building work necessary to ensure that the installed appliance complies with Building Regulations
without involving the Local Authority Building Control Department.
This appliance MUST be installed with a thermal store/buffer/accumulator. This is specialised work and may
need specific skills.
Improper adjustment, alteration, maintenance or the fitting of replacement parts not recommended by the
manufacturer can cause injury or property damage. Do not operate the stove with faulty seals or damaged glass.
Due to the high operating temperatures of this appliance it should be located away from pedestrian traffic and
away from furniture and draperies. Do not store paper or wood near the appliance. Any mats and rugs put in front
of the stove should be fire proof and secured to prevent the possibility of tripping.
Advise all persons as to the stove’s high surface temperatures. If it is possible for children or infirm adults to
come into contact with the stove, fit a suitable fire guard.
It is imperative that all air passageways into, out of, and within the appliance are kept clean. All permanent
ventilation into the room provided for the stove must remain clear and unobstructed at all times. Consideration must
be given to the need for extra ventilation if another heating source needing air is to be operated simultaneously.
If an extraction fan is proposed to be fitted to a connecting area of the house, after the stove has been installed,
professional advice should be sought from a qualified engineer.
The user should be advised that the appliance should be inspected regularly and the chimney cleaned at
least annually. More frequent cleaning may be required and the advice of a qualified chimney sweep should be
sought.
Our range of stoves is capable of operating with outstanding efficiency if theue system is correct. Because so
little heat is wasted to the flue it is possible that moisture within the products of combustion will condense if the
heat losses within theue way are too great and allow the flue gases to cool. For this reason we recommend that
the stove is fitted with a suitable flue liner, the same diameter as the flue spigot, to prevent the possibility of acidic
damage to the fabric of the chimney and damage to the stove which will reduce the longevity of the stove.
When correctly installed, the stove is designed to produce heat, safely. It cannot do so if the installation is less
than absolutely stable, constructed of materials suitable for such an installation and consideration has not been
given to the possibility of people with less than ideal common sense operating it.
Have the existing chimney swept by a chimney sweep. Although you will be lining the chimney, any deposits
left in the chimney will cause problems and may become a fire hazard.
Your attention is drawn to the precautions and responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Acts, and
whatever new legislation being introduced during the life of this document.

Hearths
The stove should stand wholly above a hearth constructed of suitably robust materials and should be able to
accommodate the weight of the appliance and its unsupported flue components. The materials should conform
to local Building Regulations and British Standards.
If the stove is not to stand in an appliance recess, a hearth made of non-combustible board/sheet material or
tiles of at least 12mm thick may be used as long as the floor can accommodate the weight of the appliance
and its unsupported flue components. If it is installed on a wooden floor or similar, the floor must be covered
with a non-combustible material, a minimum of 12mm thick, to a distance of 300mm in front of the stove and
150mm to each side measuring from the closed door of the combustion chamber.
For further information on hearths available visit our web site www.euroheat.co.uk

1. The stove must always stand perfectly level. The provision of a suitable level hearth within the recess
is an important consideration when planning a fireplace.
2. Sufficient space should be allowed for service work.
3. At least the minimum clearance from inflammable materials and conforming to the current Building
Regulations.
4. Sufficient space around the stove so that the controls may be operated without the risk of injury to
the operator.
5. Mounting brackets should be installed to facilitate the secure fitting of a fire guard, if one is to be
fitted to protect the young, elderly or infirm.
6. Curtains and soft furnishings should be a minimum of 1m from the stoves body or the surface
temperature of these furnishings must not exceed 65°C.
7. The mounting of expensive paintings, mirrors and plasma screen televisions above a fireplace is not
recommended.
Fireplace Design
Do not be tempted to fit the stove into an unsuitable fireplace. Beyond the requirements of Building Regulations
and access to facilitate servicing the stove, providing a setting which will compliment a stove is not a luxury,
it is the practicality of making the most of an investment. A good builder or fireplace specialist will be able
to transform even the most utilitarian of fireplaces. Whether altering its proportions to those of the “Golden
Mean” ideal, see below, or exposing a wooden or stone lintel or simply removing superfluous detailing for a
comparatively small cost, and the result will be a pleasure for many years.

Combustion Air Supply
Free air requirement see the data table on page ?.
Fresh Air System
Instead of letting the air from the room into the stove for combustion, it is possible to take in fresh air from
outside and introduce this directly via a duct into the back of the stove.
Today, many modern dwellings are so airtight to conform with building regulations that it is an advantage to
attach a fresh air intake to the stove. This continually supplies the air for combustion while the stove is in use
but as the air is ducted directly into the back of the stove it stops cold fresh air mixing with the warm air in the
room chilling the room or causing draughts.
This ensures that the air extractor fan outlets in the kitchen and bathroom function optimally without effecting
the air required for combustion.
Fresh Air Systems are available. See www.euroheat.co.uk for further information.
The venting kit comprises of 2 jubilee clips, 1 meter of 100mm flexible tube and the external cover vent.

Changing the Flue Outlet
The flue outlet is mounted upwards at the factory. It can, however, be
turned so that the outlet faces to the rear.
Remove the top plate and the rear panel from the boiler.
The top plate can be simply lifted off.
The rear panel is fixed in place left and right of the rear
panel by two Allen screws, a 3mm Allen key is required.
Once these are removed tilt the rear panel backwards and
lift it off the lower brackets.
Remove the two nuts on either side of the ue outlet and
rotate it by 180°.
Ret the two nuts on the bolts and tighten them ensuring a
good seal is maintained.
The ue adapter supplied with the stove MUST be used.

Flue Draught Measurement
The TAVO AQUA is dependent on flue draught. The minimum draught requirement is 12 Pa (0.05 in.H2O). If the
flue draught is greater (>20 Pa / 0.08 in.H2O) then a draught regulator must be incorporated
into the flue.
A flue draught which is too low will result in the stove being difficult to light, responding
only slowly to demands for increased output and unable to reach its full heating output. If
this is the case rectification work of the chimney construction should be under taken. A flue
draught which is too high will cause difficult control conditions, and makes it possible to
over fire the stove, which can seriously damage it. In this instance a flue draught stabiliser
may need to be fitted or if it is wind assisted excessive flue draught a stabilizing cowl may
need to be fitted.
The negative pressure created within the combustion chamber of the stove must be
measured using a test hole drilled into the flue, as close to the stove as possible and before
any draught stabilizer that may be fitted to the flue.To ensure a constant air inlet size the
readings should be taken with the air inlet controls set at maximum.
Euroheat can supply the flue measurement gauges. Order number MS026.

7 Hydraulic connection
When connecting the boiler to the heating system ensure you follow the instructions in this document. This
applies especially to the safety devices.
7.1 Thermal discharge safety device
Use only thermal discharge safety valves, which have been checked and certified according to DIN 3440 and
whose flow rate complies with the minimum requirements. It is important that the thermal discharge safety
valve is connected according to the circuit diagram, i.e. for normal heating operation the security battery is at
normal pressure, and is not therefore in a closed system. it must be connected without shutoff mechanism to
a pressurised mains water supply. The supply pressure must be at least 2 bar. The internal width of the feed
and discharge safety device of the thermal discharge safety device must not be less than its nominal width.
The drain line outlet must be unobstructed. Under no circumstances must the security battery be used as an
operational water heater.
According to DIN 4751, Sheet 2 the thermal discharge safety device must be inspected at least once per year
by a specialist. If any deficiencies are found the system must be thoroughly inspected.
Check the thermal discharge safety device:
Press the red cap against the valve, water must flow into the drain (discharge hopper). A small discharge
indicates a malfunction. The system must be thoroughly inspected by a specialist, and a decalsifier must be
used if necessary.
Operation of the thermal discharge safety device:
If the system overheats (95°C) a temperature valve opens the discharge safety device to the cold water inlet
pipe. Cold water flows through the security battery, until a normal boiler temperature is reached again.
The security battery cannot be removed!
The permitted operational pressure of the security battery is 16 bar.

7.2 Return flow boost (absolutely necessary)
The optimum value of the return flow temperature at the boiler inlet is 60°C. The return flow temperature must
be greater than 55°C, otherwise sooting and tar formation (with resulting corrosion) may occur. The return flow
boost must be installed as near to the boiler as possible, so that the mixing temperature at the mixing valve
also corresponds to the return flow temperature at the boiler.
Prior to commissioning, the hydraulic system must be filled with water. The installation specific operating
pressure lies between 1.0 bar and max. 2.0 bar.
Due to the limited space we recommend installation of the optionally obtainable reflux heating assembly (see
figure). This is incorporated inconspicuously into the boiler and only the connections with 1” external threads
are visible externally.

7.3 Water system, decrease in performance
The boiler must always be operated with a buffer reservoir, in order to store the accumulated energy (at
nominal output). In the event of too little heat consumption and the associated overheating of the boiler the
integrated safety devices will be activated.
7.4 Expansion tank
An absolute necessity for every heating installation is an expansion tank that is connected without shutoff
mechanism to the boiler/heating system. Calculation of the correct size is according to DIN 4751. As a rule of
thumb this is at least 100 l per 1000 l heating water.
The correct pressure of the expansion tank is approx. 1.5 bar, but it should always be 0.3 bar below the
installation pressure. Only in this way can it be ensured that no air will enter the heating system.
Air in the heating system prevents the correct and safe operation of the installation. If air continually enters
the system, for example owing to incorrect pressure in the expansion tank, then permanent corrosion damage
can occur.

8 Overview of the most important points
The TAVO AQUA is suitable for the combustion of rewood. Materials not suitable for combustion are:
pellets, wood dust, wood chips, solid- liquid- or gaseous fossil fuels, etc. In addition no PVC-containing
waste products, cardboard containers, paper, coated wood, litter, etc, must be burnt.
The optimum boiler temperature is between 70°C and 75°C.
The minimum boiler return ow temperature at the boiler inlet must not fall below 55°C (optimum
60°C) in operation, otherwise wood firing can lead to the formation of condensation in the boiler
(causing soot and tar formation). The correct fitting of a functional return flow boost is a pre-condition
for the manufacturer’s warranty.
The TAVO AQUA is a nominal output boiler. This means that it has no output regulation and must
be able to release the generated energy. A suitably dimensioned buffer reservoir is therefore
absolutely necessary!
if no external combustion air supply is provided, ensure there is an adequate supply of fresh air in the
installation location/central heating room.
When working on electrical/electronic equipment such as the motor, pumps, auger, suction fan or on
the control unit the complete system must be disconnected from mains power!
The rewood must comply with the requirements in the operating instructions.
Ensure that the wood is stored in a dry place.
If there is a danger of frost, heating should be continued throughout the night and the buffer reservoir
should be loaded.
If the system is shut down for a long period the boiler, ue duct and ue should be thoroughly
cleaned. The boiler door must be closed throughout this period and no water must be drained off.
The warranty is dependent on correct installation by a franchised installer (heating
engineer) and operation according to the instructions.
