1 Overview
Fig. 1: VETTER SmartFork
®
Flash
The VETTER SmartFork
®
Flash application on the outside (fig. 1/2) of the fork arms uses
the installed LEDs to increase visibility of the fork arms and therefore improve safety in
day-to-day use. The VETTER SmartFork
®
Flash application on the inside (Fig. 1/1) of the
fork arms enables insertion depth orientation that can be adapted to the load thanks to
the configurable display of the LED pattern.
This operating manual describes the safe assembly and commissioning of the VETTER
SmartFork
®
Flash control device as well as customer-specific adjustment via the software
and hardware. The control device has the following key data:
n Control of the SmartFork
®
Flash LED bands.
n 2 independent channels (not more than 60 LEDs per channel), corresponds to the
equipment of two fork arms.
n Function selection via integrated switches.
n Can be configured via USB.
n Switching signal feedthrough to the output side.

2.1 Symbols in this manual
Safety instructions in this manual are marked by symbols. The safety instructions are
introduced by signal words which express the extent of the danger.
DANGER!
This combination of symbol and signal word indicates an imminently dan-
gerous situation which, if not avoided, will result in death or serious injury.
WARNING!
This combination of symbol and signal word indicates a potentially dan-
gerous situation which, if not avoided, could result in death or serious
injury.
CAUTION!
This combination of symbol and signal word indicates a potentially dan-
gerous situation which, if not avoided, could result in minor or slight injury.
NOTICE!
This combination of symbol and signal word indicates a potentially dan-
gerous situation which, if not avoided, could result in property damage.
ENVIRONMENT!

2.2 Safety instructions
WARNING!
Risk of injury due to disregard for the safety and due diligence obli-
gation
The VETTER SmartFork
®
Flash application is only an assistance system.
Its use does not in any way replace the general safety and due diligence
obligation during loading, unloading and the transport of goods.
Prior to commissioning and during use, always ensure that the
VETTER SmartFork
®
Flash application is working properly.
Always ensure that the VETTER SmartFork
®
Flash application has
been configured for the tasks to be carried out.
Never neglect the general safety and due diligence obligation and
never rely solely on the warning function. If in doubt, actively ensure
that people and obstacles in the danger zone of the industrial truck
give due consideration to the presence of the industrial truck.
During loading and unloading, always give due consideration to your
own experience when estimating the insertion depth.
WARNING!
Risk of injury from incorrectly executed work on the control device
The faultless function of the VETTER SmartFork
®
Flash application ulti-
mately depends on the unchanged state of the control device. Inde-
pendent modifications and improper repairs or the use of third-party com-
ponents could lead to damage and a loss of functionality as well as
serious injuries during use. Improper repairs invalidate the guarantee and
the manufacturer’s responsibility for any consequential damage.
Have the VETTER SmartFork
®
Flash application replaced by quali-
fied electricians without exception.
Always use original components.
WARNING!
Danger of burns due to hot surfaces!
Heat is generated in the housing during operation of the control device.
There is a danger of burns when opening the housing
Never touch the housing during operation or immediately thereafter.
Prior to touching it, always ensure that the housing has already
cooled down.

On the Configuration screen, the parameters for the various
light patterns are set in the three sections “Safety”, “Insertion depth” and “Marker”.
n The “Safety” field relates both to the parking light and the chasing light.
n Refer to chapter “Switches and buttons” in relation to selecting the function used
Ä
Chapter 4.1 “Settings via switches and buttons” on page 10.
n Position information in number of LEDs is always based on the distance from the arm
tip.
There can be a shift in perspective due to the position of the driver. Com-
pensate by adapting/shifting the relevant marker.
1. Make settings on the screen.
2. Press the “Upload” button.
ð
Settings are transferred to the control device and stored in the volatile part of
the control system.

4.3.3 Additional functions
Various functions are available while the control system is connected to the software:
Fig. 8: Function selection screen
The following functions are possible:
Name Function
1. Change Mode The control system is put into “Config Mode” when the connec-
tion is established between the software and the control system.
This causes the LEDs to go out. “Change Mode” can be used to
switch between “Operational Mode” and “Config Mode”. This
allows positions to be checked following the “Upload”, for
example. However, it is necessary to note that an “Upload” or
“Download” is only possible in “Config Mode”.
2. Download/
Upload/Save
These functions correspond to the “Upload”, “Download” and
“Save” buttons in the “Signals” tab.
3. Export Parameter This function can be used to export the selected settings for the
control system. These are stored in a corresponding configura-
tion file (*.bin).
4. Import Parameter This function loads the exported configuration into the software.
5. Restore The “Restore” function can be used to restore and store the
default settings that are stored on the control system.
6. Restart This function carries out a soft reset of the control system.
