performanceofyoursystem
CorrectinstallationisrequiredtoensurethatEMCperformance
isnotcompromised.
Note:InareasofextremeEMCinterference,someslight
interferencemaybenoticedontheproduct.Wherethisoccurs
theproductandthesourceoftheinterferenceshouldbe
separatedbyagreaterdistance.
ForoptimumEMCperformancewerecommendthatwherever
possible:

Atleast1m(3ft)fromanyequipmenttransmittingor
cablescarryingradiosignalse.g.VHFradios,cablesand
antennas.InthecaseofSSBradios,thedistanceshould
beincreasedto7ft(2m).
Morethan2m(7ft)fromthepathofaradarbeam.A
radarbeamcannormallybeassumedtospread20degrees
aboveandbelowtheradiatingelement.
Theproductissuppliedfromaseparatebatteryfromthatused
forenginestart.Thisisimportanttopreventerraticbehavior
anddatalosswhichcanoccuriftheenginestartdoesnot
haveaseparatebattery.
Raymarinespeciedcablesareused.
Cablesarenotcutorextended,unlessdoingsoisdetailedin
theinstallationmanual.
Note:Whereconstraintsontheinstallationprevent
anyoftheaboverecommendations,alwaysensurethe
maximumpossibleseparationbetweendifferentitemsof

Suppressionferrites
Raymarinecablesmaybettedwithsuppressionferrites.These
areimportantforcorrectEMCperformance.Ifaferritehastobe
removedforanypurpose(e.g.installationormaintenance),it
mustbereplacedintheoriginalpositionbeforetheproductis
used.
Useonlyferritesofthecorrecttype,suppliedbyRaymarine
authorizeddealers.
Whereaninstallationrequiresmultipleferritestobeaddedtoa
cable,additionalcableclipsshouldbeusedtopreventstresson
theconnectorsduetotheextraweightofthecable.

Requirementforferritesonnon-Raymarinecables
IfyourRaymarineequipmentistobeconnectedtoother
equipmentusingacablenotsuppliedbyRaymarine,a
suppressionferriteMUSTalwaysbeattachedtothecablenear
theRaymarineunit.

Theantennacanbeusedtoimprovethereceptionofyour
MFD’sbuilt-inGNSS(GPS/GLONASS)receiver.DoNOT
connectanyotherantennatotheMFD’sGA150connector.
Theantennacanbemountedeitheronaathorizontalsurface
oronasuitablepole.
Ifyouintendtosurfacemounttheantenna,ensureyouhave
accesstotheundersideofthemountingsurface.
Ifyouintendtopole-mounttheantenna,thepoleneedsto
havea1inch14TPIthread.
Important:Theantennamustbemountedinalocationthat
providesagooddirectlineofsitetotheentiresky,around
thehorizon.
Ensurethattheselectedmountinglocationis:
Openandclearofanyobstructions(suchasmasts,search
lights,orotherstructures)thatcouldblockline-of-sighttothe
sky.
Aslowaspossible,tokeeptheantennaasstableaspossible.
Themorestabletheantenna,themoreeffectivelyitwilltrack
satellitesandprovidestabledata.
Asfaraspossible(atleast1m(3ft)fromotherantennaeand

50ohmcoaxialcableandreliableconnectors(offeringprotection
againstwateringress)mustbeusedwhenextendingthe
antennacable.
Note:Extendingthecablelengthbymorethanthe
recommendedmaximumlengthwillresultinsignal
degradation.

5.2Surfacemounting
Whensurfacemountingtheantenna,youcanroutethecable
eithercentrally(OptionA)orfromthesideoftheantenna
(OptionB).
1.Usethetemplatesuppliedtomarkthetwo6mm(0.25in)
mountingholes.
OPTIONA:Ifthecableisgoingtopassthroughthe
mountingsurfacedrilla19mm(0.75in)centerhole.
OPTIONB:Ifthecableistoberoutedfromthesideofthe
antenna(i.e.abovethemountingsurface),removethe
twoplastictabs(1)obstructingthecablechannel.Ifyou
donotremovethesetabsbeforeusingthecablechannel,
youcoulddamagethecable.
