4.3 Protection against electric shock
Warning! The following safety
information is intended to protect
you against electric shock.
Only connect the appliance to a mains
socket with an earthing contact as this
provides protection against electric
shock.
• The appliance must not under any
circumstances be used if it is damaged.
Have the device repaired in such cases
by a qualified specialist. The contact
data can be found in “Service Centre”
on page 14.
If the mains cable for this appliance is
damaged, it must be replaced by the
manufacturer or a person with similar
qualifications in order to avoid a
hazard.
Under no circumstances allow water or
other liquids to penetrate the inside of
the base 5. For this reason:
never use it outdoors
never immerse the base 5 in water
never place containers filled with
liquid, such as drinking glasses, vases
etc. on the appliance
never use in very humid environments
never use in the immediate vicinity of a
kitchen sink, bath, shower or a
swimming pool, as water may splash
into the appliance.
If liquid should enter the appliance,
unplug the mains plug immediately and
have the appliance repaired by a
qualified technician. The contact data
can be found in “Service Centre” on
page 14.
Never touch the appliance, the mains
cable or the mains plug with wet hands.
Always unplug it by pulling out the plug,
never pull on the cable itself.
Ensure that the mains cable is not kinked,
twisted or crushed.
Keep the mains cable away from hot
surfaces, such as the top of a stove.
If you are not going to use the appliance
for a while, remove the plug from the
wall socket. Only then is the appliance
completely free of current.
Avoid using extension cables. These
may only be used under very specific
conditions:
the extension cable must be able to
handle the amount of current drawn
by the appliance,
the extension cable must not be
"suspended". Keep children away
from it and ensure that it does not
present a trip hazard,
under no circumstances use a
damaged extension cable,
do not connect any other appliances

When the appliance is in operation,
take care to touch only the lid
handle 2 and the cooker handles 4;
While the cooking pot 3 is in use,
grasp it only with potholders or oven
gloves.
allow the appliance to cool down
before moving it to a different
location.
4.6 For the safety of your child
Warning! Children are often
unaware of danger and are injured
as a result. Please note therefore:
Only allow children to use this appliance
under the supervision of an adult.
Ensure the appliance is always kept out
of the reach of children.
Ensure that children cannot pull the
appliance down onto themselves with
the mains cable.
Ensure that the packing foil does not
become a deadly trap for a child.
Packing foils are not toys.
4.7 Material damage
Warning! Follow the instructions given
below to prevent material damage.
Never operate the slow cooker without
water. This could cause it to overheat.
For the same reason, never operate the
slow cooker without the cooking pot 3 in
place .
•The lid 1 and the cooking pot 3 are
breakable. You should therefore treat
them with care.
•The lid 1 and the cooking pot 3 are
liable to crack if subjected to sudden
temperature changes. You should
therefore always let them both cool
down before immersing them in water.
•The lid 1 and the cooking pot 3 are not
suitable for searing or for use in the
oven, microwave, freezer or plate
warmer.
Always place the appliance on a level,
dry, non-slip surface to stop it tipping
over or sliding off.
Do not place the appliance on top of a
hot hotplate.
The appliance and accessories may not
be put in a microwave oven.
If you serve the finished dish in the hot
cooking pot 3, place a heat resistant
table mat underneath it to prevent
marking the table top.

5. Unpacking and setting up
Note: As the appliance is supplied with a
thin film of grease, there might be a small
amount of smoke and odour the first time
it is used. This is not harmful and will stop
after a short while. Please ensure adequate
ventilation during this process.
1. Remove the individual parts from the
packaging.
2. Check that the individual parts are all
present (see “1.2 Scope of supply” on
page 3) and are undamaged.
3. Clean the appliance thoroughly before
using it for the first time (see
“10. Cleaning” on page 12).
4. Place the appliance on a level, dry, non-
slip surface so that the appliance can
neither fall over nor slide off.
5. Stand the cooking pot 3 in the base 5.
6. Pour half a litre of water into the cooking
pot 3.
7. Place the lid 1 on the cooking pot 3.
8. Insert the plug into a suitable earthed
socket (see “3. Technical data” on
page 4).
9. Turn the control knob to the 7 setting
HIGH”.
The indicator light will 6 come on and
the appliance will begin heating up.
10.Allow the appliance to operate switched
on for approximately 60 minutes.
11. Switch the appliance off by turning the
control knob 7 to “OFF”.
12. Disconnect the mains plug.
13.Let the appliance cool down and then
clean it again (see “10. Cleaning” on
page 12).
The appliance is now ready to use.
6. Operating the appliance
6.1 Cooking
Warning! Always connect the
appliance only to an earthed
mains socket, otherwise you will
not be properly protected from an
electric shock.
1. Put the food in the cooking pot 3.
2. Add at least 1 cup of liquid.
Beans and hard vegetables such as
carrots or potatoes should always be
completely covered with water while
cooking.
For best results, fill the cooking pot about
half full.
It should contain at least 1litre and at most
3litres of food 3 including the liquid.
3. Stand the cooking pot3 in the base 5.
4. Place the lid 1 on the cooking pot 3.
5. Insert the plug into a suitable earthed
socket (see “3. Technical data” on
page 4).
RP91025 slow cooker LB6 Seite 7 Mittwoch, 4. September 2013 2:24 14

6. Turn the control knob 7 to your chosen
setting:
“HIGH: For cooking at the highest
temperature
“LOW”: For cooking at the lowest
temperature
AUTO”: To begin cooking at the highest
temperature and thereafter at a low
temperature
The indicator light will 6 come on and
the appliance will begin heating up.
6.2 Checking whether the food is cooked
Avoid lifting the lid of the pot while cooking
is in progress. Every time you open the lid
adds to the necessary cooking time.
You should therefore check that the food is
cooked only towards the end of the cooking
time.
6.3 Ending operation
1. At the end of the cooking time, turn the
control knob 7 to “OFF”.
Warning! Be aware that the
surfaces of the appliance can
become hot in operation:
While the appliance is in
operation, take care to touch
only the lid handle 2 and the
cooker 4 handles;
While the cooker 3 is in use,
always use potholders or oven
gloves to grasp it.
2. Remove the cooking pot 3 and the
cooked food.
3. Clean the appliance carefully after use
(see “10. Cleaning” on page 12).
6.4 Thermal cut-out
The appliance is protected against
overheating. The appliance will switch off
automatically if at any time there is no more
water in the base 3 and the temperature has
become too high.
If this happens, disconnect the appliance
from the power supply and allow it to cool
down.
You can subsequently start the appliance up
again in the usual way.
7. Hints on cooking with the slow cooker
Slow cooking or “gentle cooking” is one of
the healthiest ways of cooking food.
It is actually cooked below boiling point, but
for a number of hours. This means that
nothing can burn or become overcooked.
The food doesn’t boil vigorously, it
simmersslowly, so that flavours and spices
have time to develop to their full effect.
7.1 Suitable food for the slow cooker
This slow cooker is particularly suitable for
meat, especially tougher cuts. The long
cooking time makes then as soft as butter.
Pulses such as beans, peas or lentils also
cook very well in the slow cooker.
Other hard vegetables such as potatoes,
carrots, kohlrabi, etc., are also well suited to
slow cooking.
RP91025 slow cooker LB6 Seite 8 Mittwoch, 4. September 2013 2:24 14
SSC 200 A1 9
In general we can say that slow cooking is
an excellent way of preparing stews, soups
and braised dishes.
7.2 Unsuitable food for the slow cooker
Crisply browned food such as steak or roast
meat is not suitable for the slow cooker.
Fish, pasta and dairy products are not
suitable for slow cooking, because they
coagulate or disintegrate. Such delicate
ingredients are added towards the end of
the cooking period.
Red beans contain a particularly high level
of a hazardous protein substance that is
destroyed only by vigorous boiling. They
should therefore always be precooked for
ten minutes at a fast boil before further
cooking in the slow cooker.
Frozen foods should be thawed before
cooking. Temperatures in the slow cooker
are too low to be certain that frozen food
will have been completely cooked.
7.3 Tips and tricks
Pulses should always be soaked in water
overnight. This greatly reduces the
necessary cooking time. The necessary
cooking time for dry pulses depends
very much on exactly how dry they are,
and is therefore difficult to estimate
accurately.
Always throw away the water in which
they were soaked, never use it for further
cooking.
If you plan to mix beans with other
vegetables such as carrots or potatoes,
the beans should be pre-cooked and
then left to stand overnight so that the
cooking times will be more nearly the
same.
•Beans should always be cooked at
HIGH” in order to destroy their
unwanted proteins and ensure that
cooking does not take too long.
Beans and hard vegetables such as
carrots or potatoes should always be
completely covered with water while
cooking.
Cut hard vegetables into regular, not too
large, pieces and always cook them at
the bottom of the cooking pot, because
vegetables take rather longer to cook
than meat.
You can prepare the ingredients the day
before, place them in the cooking pot
with the lid on and leave it in the
refrigerator overnight, and then simply
put it into the slow cooker for cooking.
To function properly the cooking pot
should always be at least half full.
Many dishes involving stewed or stuffed
meat call for it to be seared beforehand.
This gives it a better appearance and the
browning also improves the flavour.
Remove excess fat from the meat before
cooking it, because the low
temperatures in the slow cooker are not
sufficient to expel it.
The slow cooker is not suitable for
keeping food hot or warming it up.
For all poultry and large cuts of other
meat you should use a cooking
thermometer to check its core
temperature to ensure that it is properly
cooked through.
If there is too much liquid in the cooking
pot 3 at the end of the cooking time,
remove the 1 lid, turn the control knob 7
to “HIGH” and evaporate the excess.
When cooking soups and stews, the
level of the liquid should always be at
least 3cm below the rim of the cooking
pot 3. This is to prevent it from spilling
when you lift the cooking pot 3 out of
the base 5.

8. Cooking times
The times quoted in the tables are intended
as a guide. Actual cooking time depends
on:
the size and freshness of the foods;
the quantity in the cooking pot 3;
personal preference (al dente or soft).
Notes:
Ensure that all the pieces are about the
same size. Arrange smaller pieces on
top.
Prepare the vegetables by cutting off
thick stalks and cutting large vegetables
into similar-sized pieces.
Pierce sausages to stop them bursting.
Poultry, in particular, needs to be cooked
right through to prevent the risk of
salmonella infection.
