nectionto groundingelectrodes,andrequirements
for thegroundingelectrode.

18.Anoutsideantennaaystemshouldnatbelocated
inthevicinityofoverheadpowerlinesorother
electriclightorpowercircuits,orwhereit canfall
intosuchpowerlinesor circuits.Wheninstallingan
outsideantennasystem,extremecareshouldbe
takentokeepfromtouchingsuchpowerlinesorcir-
cuits,ascontactwiththemmightbefatal.
19.Donotoverloadwalloutlets,extensioncords,or
integralconveniencereceptacles,asthiscanresult
in a risk offire or electricshock.
20. Neverpushobjectsof anykindintothis product
throughopenings,astheymaytouchdangerous
voltagepointsorshorL-outpartsthatcouldresultin

deliveruncompromisedIow-frequenayperformancein anystereoor
multichannelhometheatersystem.
UnpackingtheSubwoofer
Ifyoususpectdamagefromtransit,ropor_it immediatelytoyourdealen
Keeptheshippingcartonandpackingmaterialsfor futureuse.
PLACEMENT
Sincetheinstallationofa subwoofercanbesomewhatmorecomplicated
thaninstallingfull-rangespeakers,it isessentialthatyouroadthis sec-
tionvorycarefullypriorto connectingthesubwoofertoyoursystem.
Shouldyouhavequestionsrelatingtoyourinstallation,it isadvisable
tocall eitheryourdealeror Infinity'sCustomerServiceDepartment
for advice.
Theperformanceofthesubwooferisdirectlyrelatedto itsplacementin
the listeningroomandhowyoualignthesubwooferwithitssatellite
speakers.Settingthevolumeofthesubwooferin relationshiptothe lee
andrightspeakersisalsoofcritical importancebecauseit isessential
thatthesubwooferintegratesmoothlywiththeentiresystem.Settingthe
subwoofer'svolumeleveltoo highwillresultin anoverpowering,boom}'
bass.Settingthevolumeleveltoo lowwillnegatethe benefitsof
thesubwoofen
Hereareseveraladditionalfactsoninstallationthatmayproveuseful.
Itisgenerallybelievedbymostaudioauthoritiesthatlowfrequencies
(below125Hz)arenondirectionaland,therefore,placementofasub-
wooferwithinanylisteningroomisnotcritical.Whileintheoryit istrue
thatthe largerwavelengthsofextremelylowfrequenciesarebasically
nondirectional,thefact isthat,wheninstallingasubwooferwithinthe lim-
itedconfinesof aroom,reflections,standingwavesandabsorptionsgen-
eratedwithintheroomwillstronglyinfluencethe performanceofanysub-
woofersystem.Asa result,specificlocationof thesubwooferbecomes
important,andwestronglyrecommendthatyouexperimentwithplacement
beforechoosingafinal location.
Placementwilldependuponyourroomandtheamountandqualityofbass
required(for example,whetheror notyourroompermitsplacementofthe
subwooferneareithersatellite).Besureto leavea minimumof sixinches
betweenthewallandtheportonthe subwoofen

Thesubwooferwillautomaticallyenterthe Standbymodeafterapproxi-
matoly10minuteswhennosignal isdetectedfromyoursystom.Thesub-
wooferwillthenpowerONinstantlywhenasignalisdetected.During
periodsof normaluse,the PowerSwitch0 canbelefton.Youmayturn
off"thePowerSwitch0 for extendedperiodsof nonoperation,e.g.,when
youareawayonvacation.
AdjustGain
TurnyourSubwoofer-LevelControlO uptothe halfwayposition.Ifno
soundemanatesfromthesubwoofer,checktheAC-linecordandinput
cables.Aretheconnectorsonthecablesmakingpropercontact?Isthe
ACplug connectedto a"live"receptacle?HasthePowerSwitch0
beenpressedtothe"On"position?Onceyouhaveconfirmedthatthe
subwooferisactive,proceedbyplayinga CD,recordor cassette.
Useaselectionthathasamplebassinformation.
Settheoverallvolumecontrolof thepreamplifierorstereoto acomfort-
ablelevel.Adjustthe Subwoofer-LevelControlIBIuntilyouobtainapleas-
ingblendof bass.Bassresponseshouldnotoverpowertheroombut
ratherbeadjustedsothereisa harmoniousblendacrosstheentiremusi-
cal range.Manyusershaveatendencyto setthesubwoofervolumetoo
loud,adheringtothe beliefthat a subwooferistheretoproducelotsof
bass.Thisis notentirelytrue.Asubwooferisthereto enhancebass,
extendingthe responseoftheentiresystemsothe basscanbefelt as
wellasheard.However,overallbalancemustbemaintainedorthemusic
will notsoundnatural.Anexperiencedlistenerwillsetthevolumeof
thesubwooferso its impactonbassresponseis alwaystherebutnever
obmJsive.
PhaseControl
ThePhaseSwitchO determineswhetherthesubwooferspeaker'spiston-
likeactionmovesinandoutwiththemainspeakers,O',or oppositethe
mainspeakers,1no" Properphaseadjustmentdependsonseveral
variablessuchasroomsize,subwooferplacementandlistenerposition.
Adjustthephaseswitchtomaximizebassoutputatthelisteningposition.
CrossoverAdjustment
TheCrossoverAdjustreentControl0 determinesthehighestfrequencyat
whichthesubwooferreproducessounds.Ifyourmainspeakerscancomfort-
ablyreproducesomelow-froquencysounds,setthiscontroltoalower
frequencysetting,between5OHzand100Hz.Thiswillconcentratethe
subwoofeF'seffortsontheultradeepbasssoundsrequiredbytoday's
filmsandmusic.Ifyouarousingsmallerbookshelfspeakersthatdo
notextendtothelowerbassfrequencies,settheCroeseveFAdjustment
controltoa highersetting,between120Hzand150Hz.
NOTE:ThiscontrolwillhavenoeffectiftheLFE/NormalSelector_ isset
toLFE.IfyouhaveaDolbyDigitalorDESprecessor/roceiver,the Low-Paes
Frequencyissetbytheprocessor/receivenConsultyourowner'smanualto
learnhowto vieworchangethissetting.
MAINTENANCEANDSERVICE
Theenclosuremaybecleanedusingasoftclothto removefingerprints
ortowipeoff.dust.
Thegrille maybegentlyvacuumed.Stainsmayberemovedwithan
aerosolcleaner,followingits instructions.Donotuseanysolventson
thegrille.
All wiringconnectionsshouldbeinspectedandcleanedor remadeperi-
odicallyThefrequencyof maintenancedependsonthemetalsinvolvedin
theconnections,atmosphericconditions,andotherfactors,butonceper
yearisthe minimum.
If aproblemoccurs,makesurethatall connectionsareproperlymade
andclean.If a problemexistsin oneloudspeaker,reversetheconnection
wirestothe leftandrightsystem.Iftheproblemremainsin thesame
speaker,thenthefault iswiththe loudspeaker.Iftheproblemappearsin
theoppositespeaker,thecauseisin anothercomponentor cable.Inthe
