thejacksandthatnothingistouching
them.
ByswitchingOFFthepowerand
removingthemetaljumpers,youcan
connectasignalprocessorsuchasa
surround-sounddecoderoranelectronic
crossoverinthepathbetweenpreamp
andpoweramp.Connectacablefrom
PRE-OUTtotheprocessor'sinputanda
secondcablefromtheprocessor'soutput
toMAININ.
YourAMCamplifierisdesignedtodrive
loudspeakrswithanominalimpedanceof
4-8ohms.
However,XIAcanonlydrive4ohm
speakersbyswitchingtheimpedance
selectorontherearpaneloftheunitto
the4ohmsetting.

LOUDSPEAKERCONNECTIONS
Theloudspeakeroutputterminalswill
accept4mm(banana)plugs,spade
connectors,pinconnectorsorbarewires.
Connectthenegativeside(usually
black)ofyourlefthandloudspeakerlead
totheblackterminalofthetwoterminals
marked"left"ontherearofyouramplifier.
Theothersideofyourlefthandspeaker
lead(thepositivesideorred)shouldbe
connectedtotheredterminalmarked
"left".Repeatthisoperationfortheright
handloudspeaker.
YourAMCamplifieriscapableof
generatinghighpeakcurrents,soall
connectionsmustbecheckedtoavoid
inadvertentshortcircuitsandtoensurea
goodcleancontact.
UNDERNOCIRCUMSTANCES
SHOULDTHEOUTPUTSBESHORTED
TOGETHER.
TheACRECEPTACLEisforyoutoplug

TheBalanceControladjuststherelative
levelsoftheleftandrightchannels.Ithas
noeffectonrecordingsbeingmade.A
detentatthe12o'clockpositionmarks
thepointofequalbalance.Rotationofthe
BalanceControltotheright(clockwise)
decreasestheleveloftheleftchannelso
thatonlytherightchannelisheard.
Rotationtotheleftshiftsthesonicimage
towardtheleftspeaker.
AdjusttheBalanceControltoproducea
naturalspreadofsoundacrossthespace
betweenthespeakers,withany
monophonicsound(suchasaradio
announcer'svoice)appearingasa
phantomimagecenteredmidway
betweenthem.Recordingsoftencontain
smallerrorsinchannelbalance,typically
nomorethan2dB;butthisisenoughto
degradestereoimaging.Small
compensatingchangesinthesettingof
theBalanceControlcansignificantly
improvethedepthandstabilityofthe
stereoimage.
Therotaryinputselectorswitchselects
whichinputsignal(Phono,CD,Tuneror
Aux/USB)isfedtothepoweramplifier.
Theselectedsignalisalsofedtothe
"Tapeout"socketsforrecording.
TheTapeMonitorswitchisgenerallyleft

stereobalancewillnotshiftnoticeablyas

ThetonecontrolsonyourAMCamplifier
uselowcolourationpassivecircuitryto
ensuretheminimumdegradationofthe
musicsignal.Theyaredesignedto
graduallymodifythetonalemphasisof
themusicandtocompensateforsuch
problemsasdifficultroomacoustics.
Ifrequired,thetonecontrolscanbe
completelyby-passedwitharesultant
increaseinsoundquality.Todothis
simplyturntheDirect/Muteswitchtothe
"Direct"position.
WiththeDirect/Muteswitchinthe
"normal"position,thetonecontrolswillcut
theirrespectivefrequencieswhenturned
anti-clockwiseandboostthemwhen
turnedclockwise.Theflattestresponseis
foundwhenthecontrolsareinthe"12
o'clockposition.
Theheadphonesocketwillacceptany
headphonesfittedwithastandard
1/4"(6.35mm)stereojackplug.When
Headphonesareinuse,theoutputto
