Topreventnetworkeavesdropping,therootpasswordcanbesetviaanencryptedHTTPSconnection,whichrequiresanHTTPS

certicate.HTTPS(HypertextTransferProtocoloverSSL)isaprotocolusedtoencrypttrafcbetweenwebbrowsersandservers.The

HTTPScerticateensuresencryptedexchangeofinformation.SeeHTTPSonpage44.

Thedefaultadministratorusernamerootispermanentandcannotbedeleted.Ifthepasswordforrootislost,theproductmustbe

Selectthepowerlinefrequency(50Hzor60Hz)usedatthelocationoftheAxisproduct.Selectingthewrongfrequencymaycause

imageickeriftheproductisusedinuorescentlightenvironments.

Whenusing50Hz,themaximumframerateislimitedto25fps.

H.264can,withoutcompromisingimagequality,reducethesizeofadigitalvideolebymorethan80%comparedwiththeMotion

JPEGformatandasmuchas50%morethantheMPEG-4standard.Thismeansthatmuchlessnetworkbandwidthandstoragespace

arerequiredforavideole.Orseenanotherway,muchhighervideoqualitycanbeachievedforagivenbitrate.

clientsviewingsimultaneously.Amulticastcannothowever,passanetworkrouterunlessthe

Exposureistheamountoflightthecamera’ssensorcapturesforascene.Toomuchlightresultsinawashedoutimageandtoo

littlelightresultsinadarkimage.

Exposurevalue-UsetheExposurevalueslidertoadjusttheoverallbrightnessoftheimage.

Exposurecontrol-Selectasuitableoptiontocontrolexposure.

Formostscenes,theAutomaticoptionwillprovidethebestresults.Theshutterspeedisautomaticallysettoproduceoptimum

imagequality.Fluorescentlampsorotherlightsourcescansometimescauseickeringintheimage.Toreduceickerintheimage,

selecttheFlickeroptionthatmatchesthepowerlinefrequency.

TheHoldcurrentoptionlocksthecurrentexposuresettings.

Maxexposuretime-Shutterspeed,alsocalled‘exposuretime’,standsforthelengthoftimethecamerashutterisopen,thereby

exposingthecamerasensortolight.Ifshutterspeedisfastitcanfreezeactioneffectively.Ifshutterspeedisslow,itcancause

movingobjectstoappearblurred.Decreasingtheexposuretimewillreducemotionblur.

EnableBacklightcompensation-Enablethisoptionifabrightspotoflight,suchasalightbulb,causesotherareasintheimage

toappeartoodark.

Exposurezones-Thissettingdetermineswhichpartoftheimageisusedtocalculatetheexposure.Formostsituations,theAuto

settingcanbeused.

TheremustbeatleastoneIncludewindow.TherecanbeatotaloftenIncludeandExcludewindowstotailortheexposurezone.

NotethatanExcludewindowiseffectiveonlywhenplacedinsideanincludewindow.

Tip:Ifanareaisextremelybright,drawanIncludewindowtocoverthewholeareaanddeneExcludewindowswithinitto

blockoutthebrightareas.

Shutter&Gain

Theshutterandgainsettingsaffecttheamountofmotionblurandnoiseintheimage.Toadapttodifferentlighting,available

storagespaceandbandwidth,itisoftennecessarytoprioritizeeitherlowmotionblurorlownoise.TheAxisproductallowsdifferent

prioritizationinnormallightandinlowlight.

Shutterspeedisrelatedtotheamountoftimetheshutterisopenedandismeasuredinseconds(s).Aslowshutterspeedallows

morelighttoreachthesensorandcanhelpproduceabrighterimageinlowlightsituations.Ontheotherhand,aslowshutter

speedcancausemovingobjectstoappearblurry.

SetShutterto:

•Autotosettheshutterspeedautomatically.Ifrequired,useMaxshuttertolimittheshutterspeedtopreventtheframe

ratefrombeingreduced.

Forexample,toget30fps,setMaxshutterto1/30.

•Fixedtouseaxedshutterspeed.

Gain,measuredindecibel(dB),istheamountofamplicationappliedtotheimage.Ahighgainmayprovideabetterimageinlow

lightsituationsbutwillincreasetheamountofimagenoise.

SetGainto:

•Autotosetthegainautomatically.Ifrequired,useMaxgaintolimittheappliedgain.

•Fixedtouseaxedgain.

Example

Ifstoragespaceorbandwidthislimited,tryusingalowergain.Thiswillreduceimagenoiseandproducesmallerimageles.

Day/Night

TheIRcutlterpreventsinfrared(IR)lightfromreachingtheimagesensor.Inpoorlightingconditions,forexampleatnight,orwhen

usinganexternalIRlamp,settheIRcutltertoOff.Thisincreaseslightsensitivityandallowstheproductto“see”infraredlight.The

imageisshowninblackandwhitewhentheIRcutlterisoff.

IfusingautomaticExposurecontrol,settheIRcutltertoAutotoautomaticallyswitchbetweenOnandOffaccordingtothe

lightingconditions.

TheDay/Nightshiftlevelbarhelpsdeterminewhenthecamerawillshiftfromdaymodetonightmode.Normally,thecamera

automaticallychangesmodefromdaytonightwhenverydark(level100intheslider).BysettingDay/Nightshiftleveltoa

lowervalue,thecamerawillchangetonightmodeearlier.
