device with 0.2 hydrophobic
air-venting filter
1. Prepare vial
Swab the vial with 70%
isopropyl alcohol and allow
it to dry
2. Attach vial access device
Remove protective sheath from spike
Hold the body of the needle-free valve and insert
the vial access device into the center of the vial
3. Prepare valve
Swab the top of the needle-free valve with
70% isopropyl alcohol and allow it to dry
4. Reconstitute and/or withdraw fluid
Connect the syringe to the needle-free valve
Inject desired amount of diluent into the vial if needed
Invert vial and withdraw desired amount of solution

Important tips:
Do not inject fluid when the vial is inverted
To clear filter surface, aspirate with empty syringe
to create negative pressure
Do not hold the vent when inserting the spike into
the vial
Do not use vial access device to access more than
one vial
Always swab the SmartSite needle-free valve prior
to accessing
Replace device every 96 hours or after 20 uses, whichever
occurs first
