This manual presents the specifications, functions, and method of use of the CompactPCI A3pci8024.

1. Prior to use
1.1 Period and scope of warranty
Delivered products are under warranty for a period of one year after delivery.
During the period of warranty, the vendor will have his own to responsibility replace or repair malfunctioning
parts if the product malfunction is the responsibility of the vendor.
However, this warranty does not apply under the following circumstances:
(1) If the user handles or uses the product in an inappropriate way
(2) If the malfunction is caused by something other than the delivered product
(3) If the delivered product has been modified or repaired by anyone other than the vendor
(4) Due to natural disaster, accident, or other reason not the responsibility of the vendor
In this context, the term “warranty” means solely a warranty of the individual delivered product, and does not
include any compensation for the damage caused by malfunction of the delivered product.
1.2 Scope of service
The service costs such as the costs of sending technical personnel are not included in the price of the delivered
product. Customers will be charged for the following costs:
(1) Assistance with installation adjustments and test running
(2) Maintenance inspections, adjustments, and repairs
(3) Technical assistance and technical training

2. Outline
The A3pci8024 is a Compact PCI bus-compatible CPU board equipped with Intel EP80579.
Intel EP80579 is a SoC (System on Chip) that integrates various functions including the memory controller and I/O
controller into the CPU core.
The CPU core is a PentiumM processor running at 1.066 GHz.
The A3pci8024 supports up to 2GB of PC2-4200-compatible SO-RDIMM main memory with ECC (automatic cor-
rection of bit error).
Coupled with the Compact PCI that is compatible with the system slot and peripheral slot, the rear panel I/O board
A3pci8024 RTM has four USB2.0 ports, two serial ATA ports.
The A3pci8024 also supports one Gigabit Ethernet port, one USB2.0 port, and one VGA port on the front panel.
The A3pci8024 is a 3U-sized compact CPU board with a single slot width, which meets demand for a downsizing of
the system and space saving.
The A3pci8024 has the following features:

6. Settings
6.1 A3pci8024 On-board Components
The external view of the A3pci8024 components is illustrated in figure 6.1. This section describes items requiring
pre-setting and pre-check before the A3pci8024 is inserted into the rack and pertinent setting procedures.
Settings need to be made following the procedure described in each section.

6.1.1 JP1 (Jumper Switch for Clearing BIOS Setting Backup)
The JP1 is used to restore default values for BIOS setting data backed up.
Normally, nothing needs to be done with the JP1 jumper.
Use JP1 only when the BIOS setup screen fails after battery change by misoperation.
Follow the following procedures to clear BIOS setting backup data:
(1) Remove the A3pci8024 from the rack after turn off the rack power.
(2) Short JP1.
(3) Wait at least 1 second and return JP1 to an open status.
(4) Restore the A3pci8024 into the rack.

6.1.2 CN3 (SO-RDIMM Socket)
CN3 is a socket for mounting a memory module.
The A3pci8024 is designed to operate with the memory module mounted.
The memory module which complies with requirements defined in table 6.2 should always be used.
The power must be off for insertion and removal of the memory module.

6.1.3 CN9 (CMOS Backup Battery Holder)
CN9 is a battery holder for back up RTC data and CMOS.
A CR2032 battery, which has an estimated life of approx. 4 years (used at 25°C with the power off), is
contained in the A3pci8024 for actual use.
Time data and CMOS turn back default with respect to each power-off if no battery is inserted or the battery
runs down.
If no time data is required, this board can be used without battery inserted.
The power must be off for insertion and removal of the battery.
Please use care with proper polarity (“+” (positive) polarity face up) when inserting the battery.
6.1.4 J1, J2 (CompactPCI Connector)
J1 and J2 are CompactPCI bus interface connectors that support rear interface signals.
See sections 8.6 and 8.7 for pin assignment for the connectors.

The A3pci8024 adheres to 32-bit CompactPCI Specification, and J2 pin assignment differs from that de-
fined in 64-bit CompactPCI Specification.
See section 8.7 for pin assignment to ensure that a backplane is compatible with this board before actual use.
Always make sure the backplane satisfies requirements listed below when using the A3pci8024 on a general
CompactPCI bus backplane. Operation of the A3pci8024 is enabled only when the following requirements
are met. Potential damage to the board or backplane may occur if disregarded. The system slot and periph-
eral slot become enabled for the CompactPCI bus board if the requirements are met.

6.2 A3pci8024 Panel Components
Figure 6.2 shows an external view of the A3pci8024 panel. The following explanation of the use of connectors
and switches will be made with reference to this drawing.

6.2.1 Reset Switch
You push, then internal devices of the A3pci8024 are reset.
The CompactPCI bus reset signal is asserted simultaneously when the system slot is chosen for using the
A3pci8024.
6.2.2 USB
There are USB host interface conforming to the USB 2.0 standard.
The power-supply current capacity which can be supplied to a USB device is up to 500mA per one port.The
overcurrent protective circuit operates to disable the USB device connected to the port if current exceeds this
value over a prolonged period of time.
See Section 8.1 for pin assignments.
6.2.3 VGA
It is a VGA connector for a graphics output.
SXGA (1280 × 1024, 16 million colors) can be displayed.
When you connect or disconnect to this connector please turn off the power.

6.2.4 Ethernet
This is 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet connector.
Ethernet for the A3pci8024 supports AutoMDI/MDI-X.
The LED on the connector indicates the link status between the board and a relevant access point.
See section 8.3 for pin assignment.

The LED indicates the status of power supply voltage supplied to the A3pci8024.

The LED comes on upon access to the SATA disk.

It is a LED which shows the status of a HotSwap.
This LED informs the current status of the board to the operator, when the HotSwap is carried out.
The lighting conditions of the LED differs with OS or user software.

6.3 A3pci8024 RTM On-board Components
The external view of the A3pci8024 RTM components is illustrated in figure 6.3. This section describes items
requiring pre-setting and pre-check before the A3pci8024 RTM is inserted into the rack and pertinent setting
procedures.

6.3.1 CN6 (Internal Connection Serial ATA Connector)
This is a serial ATA host interface which is in conformity with Serial ATA 1.0 Specification.
One-on-one connection is established between a device including an HDD 1 CD-ROM and the host.Maximum
data transfer speed is 150 MB/sec.
Up to 1-m cable can be enabled.
The power must be off for connection and disconnection of the cable to/from this connector.
See section 8.4 for pin assignment.
6.3.2 CN4 (USB FLASH Drive Slot)
This is a slot used for mounting the Micron Embedded USB Mass Strage Drive or equivalent.
The power must be off for insertion and removal of the drive into/from this slot.
The A3pci8024 RTM comes with a spacer and screws that are used to secure the drive.
See section 8.5 for pin assignment.
6.3.3 rJ1, rJ2 (RTM Interface Connector)
These are connectors that support rear interface signals used in the A3pci8024 RTM.
See sections 8.8 and 8.9 for connector pin assignment.

6.4.1 External Connection Serial ATA Connector
This is a serial ATA host interface which is in conformity with Serial ATA 1.0 Specification.
One-on-one connection is established between a device including an HDD 1 CD-ROM and the host. Maxi-
mum data transfer speed is 150 MB/sec.
