Prepare the Cable
When using a strain relief connector, slide
it on the cable before adding the RJ45
connector.

2
Begin with one end of the Ethernet cable.
Place the blade of the cable jacket
stripper approximately 40 mm (1.5
inches) from the end of the cable
(approximately the width of two jacket
strippers placed side by side). Twist the
jacket stripper around the outer jacket of
the cable to cut it. Pull o the piece of
the jacket you just cut.
3
Using the side-cutting pliers, clip the
ripcord and center spline as close to
where you cut the outer jacket as
possible. If you accidentally expose any
of the copper inside a wire’s insulator
coating, cut o the end of the cable and
start again.

Untwist each pair of wires.!
!
Pro Tip: Use the piece of the outer jacket
you removed to untwist each pair.

Test the Cable
To test a cable:
1. Remove the remote from the bottom of the MapMaster mini.
2. Plug one end of your terminated cable into the main unit.
3. Plug the other end of the cable into the remote unit.
4. Press the button once to run a cable test. Test results display as two rows of
numbers:
a. The top row displays the results for the end of the cable that is plugged into
the main unit.
b. The bottom row displays the results for the end of the cable plugged into the
remote.
5. The tester displays Pass when the cable has been properly terminated and both
ends are wired to the same standard. Each number, one through eight, represents
a single wire in the cable. For the T-568B standard, 1 is orange-white, 2 is orange,
etc.
6. Hold the button down for two seconds to power o.
7. Disconnect cable after test and return the remote to the bottom of the tester.
8
If a cable does not pass, the MapMaster Mini will display one of the following errors:
Open with all eight numbers flashing means that the tester cannot sense that a cable is
plugged into either the main unit or the remote.
1. Verify the cable is properly seated in the RJ45 ports on both the main and
remote units.
2. Press the button once to run the test again.
Open with only a couple of numbers flashing means those wires are not properly
connected to the pins in the RJ45 connector.
1. Visually inspect both ends of the cable.
2. Re-terminate the end of the cable where the wires are not properly connected to
the pins in the RJ45 connector.
3. Test the cable again.
4. If the test results display the Open error after you have re-terminated both ends
of the cable, the issue may be within the cable itself.
Miswire means one or more wire pairs are not terminated in the same order at both ends
of the cable. Flashing numbers display which wires do not match the same standard.
1. Visually inspect both ends of the cable.
2. Re-terminate the mis-matched end.
3. Test the cable again.
Short means that the copper wires are exposed somewhere within the cable. If you see
this error, chances are you will have to replace the cable.
