WELCOME
"YOU ARE CAPABLE OF MORE THAN WHAT YOU THINK"
The first time you wear your Lenoar3Do 3D glasses and hold the bird in your hand that functions as a 3D
mouse, you will have a feeling of wonder such as when a person first drives a car and feels control over the
power of the engine. As with the car, the experience is real: the control is yours, you have power over space.
This alone is a unique experience, but with Leonar3Do you are capable of much more.
Leonar3Do is the first complete and complex desktop VR equipment in the world. The notion of VR (virtual
reality) is different from the concept of common 3D displayed on the monitor level (e.g. in design programs
that are controllable only with a mouse) or even from the concept of stereoscopic 3D (movies, television
broadcasts). The main and most useful attribute of virtual reality is that you can place an object in a virtual
space in 'front' of the monitor space. The object stays where you put it, irrespective of your head movements.
You can then manipulate it as a real object with the ability to move, modify, color, dismantle or drop it. Almost
as you would in reality.
In order to make virtual reality available for everyday use as a new, interactive potential for creativity, we
wanted to provide users with a tool that meets the highest professional demands, but is still suitable for
anyone without any specific skills or background. So anyone can become a professional expert and enter the
rapidly expanding world of VR with Leonar3Do. You may be a teacher or a student. You may join from curiosity
or pleasure. You may be one of the first to try it, or you may get to it later. There is one thing you can be sure
of: you will become part of the culture of future, by making a reasonable profit from this culture in the present,
here and now.

Do not place Leonar3Do or any of its components into body orifices under any circumstances or for any
purpose!
Do not wear the glasses in any situations that require unimpaired visual perception. Do not wear the glasses as
sunglasses.
Under normal conditions, stereoscopic 3D viewing is safe for any duration that you would normally view your
display. However, some people may experience discomfort. To minimize the potential for experiencing visual
problems or any adverse symptoms:
Take the stereoscopic 3D medical test to verify your ability to see stereoscopic 3D images.
Maintain a distance no closer than 18 to 24 inches away from the display. Viewing from too close a
distance can strain your eyes.
Take regular breaks, at least 5 minutes after every hour of stereoscopic 3D viewing.
In the beginning, you may have to have your eyes accustomed to the perception of stereoscopic
images. At first, you should hold virtual objects close to the monitor level, and later, as your eyes
adjust to viewing stereoscopic content, you can increase the distance.
If you experience any of the following symptoms, discontinue use and contact your physician:
o nausea, dizziness or queasiness;
o headache or eyestrain;
o blurry vision;
o double vision that lasts longer than a few seconds.
Do not engage in any potentially hazardous activity (for example, driving a vehicle) until any symptoms have
completely passed.
If your symptoms persist, discontinue use and do not resume stereoscopic 3D viewing without discussing your
symptoms with a physician.

UNPACKING THE EQUIPMENT
The most important hardware elements of Leonar3Do: a spatial input device with six degrees of freedom (the
'bird'), 3D glasses and sensors that can be put on the top of the monitor. The bird operates in six degrees of
freedom, which means that you can not only move the individual objects or the whole space, but also rotate
them. 3D glasses let you perceive the stereoscopic image displayed on the monitor as three-dimensional
reality. The sensors continuously track the position of both the bird and the glasses, and send information
through the central unit to the Leonar3Do system software. The applications generate, manage and display in
space the virtual reality created in accordance with the data processed.
Prior to unpacking your new Leonar3Do box, it is a good idea to make sure you meet all the system
requirements for a smooth installation. Be sure to inspect each piece of equipment shipped in the packing box.
If anything is missing or damaged, contact your retailer.
WHAT IS IN THE BOX
The following parts and assemblies are included in the Leonar3Do box.
Bird
The bird plays the same role in the space as the traditional mouse on a flat surface.
There is a major difference, however: while using the mouse you work in some
distance from the location of the actual operation of the cursor, the bird operates
exactly where its cursor is, just like a real tool, a brush, a chisel, or a modeling tool. It
also provides the familiar clicking functions of the mouse. The bird operates in six
degrees of freedom, which means that you can not only move the individual objects or
the whole space, but also rotate them.
Glasses
The glasses are used to view the Leonar3Do compatible software in stereoscopic 3D.
By detecting the position of eye-glasses, it is possible to project the two different
pictures for each eye, precisely according to the actual position of our eyes. This
results in a strikingly realistic illusion of space.
Sensors
The sensors provide the currently running software with continuous information
about the spatial positions of the bird and the glasses. Their viewing angle of 120
degrees lets them track the position switches of the glasses and the bird in front of the
monitor. The information provided by the three sensors are summarized and
transmitted by the cable hub that can be fixed onto the back of the monitor.
11
Leonar3Do Central Unit
The central unit receives the data provided by the bird, the glasses and the sensors
through its connectors, forwards them to the computer, and allows for the bi-
directional communication.
Sensor hub
Collects and distributes the data transmitted from the sensors to the central unit
through connected cables.
Sensor cables
Three short cables for connecting the sensors and the sensor hub, and one longer
cable for connecting the sensor hub and the central unit.
WARNING: NEVER REPLACE THEM WITH ANY OTHER CABLES!
USB cable
Connects the central unit to the computer.
WARNING: DO NOT CONNECT LEONAR3DO TO THE COMPUTER BEFORE INSTALLING
THE DVD!

BIRD
RECOMMENDED HAND POSTURES
We recommend to hold the device as you would
hold a pencil. The exact hand posture may differ
person to person. The bird is ergonomically
designed to be conveniently used in either the right
or left hand, and to recognize even the slightest
finger movement. It is important that you hold it
comfortably, and that you can reach both the large
and the small buttons with your index finger or
your thumb.
Make sure not to cover the LEDs on the extensions
of the bird.
It is a good idea to put your elbow on the desk or
otherwise prop up your hand to avoid fatigue. If
you feel tired, have a break.
Do not fail with the bird, otherwise its extensions
could hit something, or cause injury.
WARNING: When using the device, you may not always have proper sense of the surface of the
monitor. Be careful not to hit the monitor with the bird.
BUTTONS AND VIBRATING ENGINE
The bird has a large button (1) and a small button (2). The small button has two
positions, like that of a typical mouse: either pressed or released. The large button
also detects the extent to which it is pressed. Inside the bird there is a vibrating
engine by which applications simulate a sense of touch within the virtual space.
The engine also vibrates when you press the large button, so you can feel when it
turns active. Button functions may change depending on software.
13
WARNING:
This product includes infrared light-emitting diodes for transmitting signals from the bird and
glasses to the sensors. Observe the following precautions while the infrared device is transmitting:
Do not stare or look closely into the bird's LEDs located at the end of its extensions, or
into the glass frame, as there are also some LEDs placed behind its cover.
Do not view directly into the LEDs with optical instruments (e.g. with a magnifier).
No parts in the device may be serviced by the user.
GLASSES
WARNING: The glasses are not prescription eye wear, sunglasses, nor protective goggles.
Do not use the glasses for any general eye wear purposes (for driving, reading, protection
from sunlight or ultraviolet light, etc.). These glasses have been developed to be used
solely with Leonar3Do, it cannot be used with any other equipment or for any other
purpose. To avoid eyestrain and drying or tearing of the eye, and other inconveniences, it
is recommended to observe the resting time determined for workplaces with normal
monitors but it should be at least 5 minutes per hour.
There are infrared LEDs within the frame of the glasses. When using the glasses, do not cover the frame,
otherwise the sensors cannot detect the position of the glasses.
Warning: The Leonar3Do glasses are ergonomically designed for comfort for those who wear glasses as well.
Users can wear the Leonar3Do 3D glasses together with normal corrective glasses in order to properly enjoy
virtual reality and avoid eye strain.
SENSORS
In the package, you can find the sensors assembled. The shape of the arms determines which of the arms will
go on the right, on the left and in the center. At the bottom of the arms you can find clamp joints. These are
not interchangeable. After attaching them, follow the steps below.
The sensors must be cabled together with the cable hub according to the color codes.
The angle of the sensors should only be changed if you cannot fix the base horizontally onto the top of
the monitor.
If the sensors are moved for some reason, they must be recalibrated.
Avoid getting stains or fingerprints on the sensor windows, as it could interfere with position
detection.
The sensors can be sensitive to vibrating or too bright light. This may lead to the vibration of the
position of the glasses or the bird. In this case, Leonar3Do system software indicates this vibration
under the Sensors tab after installation.
14
Locate your monitor where there is as little light as possible coming from the window or other bright
sources of light.
Vibrating sources of light may cause interference. You may want to replace them, since they are
harmful to your eyes anyway, but while using Leonar3Do, you should always turn them off.
When shipping, you should always unfix the sensors from the monitor.
15
