Schacht Variable Dent Reeds User manual

  • Hello! I've reviewed the assembly instructions for the Schacht Variable Dent Reeds, including models SL2160, SL2161, SL2162, SL2163, and SL2164. This document outlines how to assemble the reed, adjust it for different weaving widths, and use it to create fabrics with various densities. I'm ready to answer your questions about these devices.
  • How does the weaving width of this reed compare to a regular reed?
Do the reed sections need to fill the whole frame?
How do I weave at less than full width?
VARIABLE DENT REEDS
For Cricket and Flip Looms
Create fabric with dierent densities in the sett, or
accommodate thick and thin yarns.
NOTES
It is easiest to set up the variable dent reed at your
loom.
The weaving width of the variable dent reed is
about 1⁄4" narrower than a regular reed of similar
width.
To weave at full width, you may need to remove
the plastic spacers from the frame posts prior to re-
assembly.
Reed sections do not need to completely ll all of
the available space in the reed frame. To weave at
less than full width, secure reed sections with heddle
retainer rings.

ASSEMBLY
1. Disassemble the entire reed frame and place
the reed frame bottom in the loom’s up heddle
position with the slot facing up.
2. Insert the reed sections in your desired order,
with the open edge of one section meeting the
at edge of the next section and that the reed
sections are centered in the reed frame.
3. Place the reed frame top over the reed
sections with the slot facing down.
4. For weaving at less than full width, secure the
reed sections with heddle retainer rings: slide a
ring onto both the top and bottom frames until
they rest against the outermost reed sections,
holding the sections in place.
5. Re-assemble end posts: insert a 1" screw
through the frame bottom, a plastic spacer, and
the metal rod. Then insert the knob through the
reed frame top, a plastic spacer, and into the metal
rod. Tighten the knob on the frame top; you may
need to hold the screw in place with a screwdriver
or your nger.
