The speaker configuration
In order to receive the best sound result with your AV-receiver, the correct configuration of
the speakers is absolutely necessary. The AV-R500 is indeed flexible enough for being able
to produce multi-channel surround sounds even without center speaker, for an optimal
result at the decoding of Dolby Pro Logic II, DTS and Dolby Digital, you need, however, at
least 5 speakers (left, right, center, back left, back right). In addition, we recommend
urgently using a subwoofer so that you are able to enjoy the entire sound range modern
DVD-films offer.
BASS mode
Using the key BASS MODE, you can select the bass mode suitable for the size and
capability of your front speakers. Mode 1 is designed so that no frequencies under 80 Hz are
released to the front speakers. If your front speakers are, however, large and powerful,
select Mode 2 so that the whole frequency spectrum is sent to the front speakers, as well.
Simply press the BASS MODE key repeatedly, the selected mode is shown in the display.
Switching off the subwoofer
If you have selected BASS mode 2 and if the device is not in the SURROUND mode, you can
switch the subwoofer on or off using the SUBWOOFER ON/OFF key. If you have
deactivated the subwoofer, the blue ring surrounding the SUB ON/OFF key goes out.
Delay time
For the Dolby Digital / Dolby Pro Logic II operation, you can set propagation delays in ms
(milliseconds) for the center and the surround speakers. Thus, the stereoscopic impression
can be intensified.
If you set the delay time in Dolby Digital operation, 15 ms are automatically added to the
surround channels in Dolby Pro Logic operation. The current setting appears in the display.
Press the DELAY TIME key of the remote control in Dolby Digital operation. In the display,
the speaker channel that is to be set is shown: “S” for the surround speakers, “C” for the
center speaker. Now press the +/- key in order to set the desired delay time for the
surround channels to 5,10 or 15 ms and for the center channel to 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 ms.
In Dolby Pro Logic operation, the following delay times are available: for the surround
channels 10, 15, 20 or 25 ms and for the center channel 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 ms.
In the surround operation modes, playback via the speakers that have been set like this is
now slightly delayed compared with the front speakers. Please determine the setting that is
optimal for your situation by changing the different parameters.
Dynamic compression
Using the DYNAMIC key, you can set the dynamic compression of the sound. By
“Dynamic”, we mean the difference in volume between very loud and very quiet passages,
that means between explosions and whispering e.g. if you have sensible neighbours or if
you like to watch action films during the night, you should set a preferably high compression
(DRC = 4/4). With the setting DRC = 0/4, you receive full dynamic. Simply press the
DYNAMIC key repeatedly. The respectively set value is shown in the display.
Tipp:
Ø
For programme sources in DTS-format, no dynamic compression is possible.
