USER GUIDE
Charging myPower for iPod
Before using myPower for iPod for the first time, you must charge it for three hours. Then you must recharge
myPower for iPod whenever all the green or red power capacity indicators on the front of the unit are off. You
have two options for charging myPower for iPod. You can charge the device via a FireWire port on your PC, or
by connecting to a FireWire power adapter (via the provided cable). A FireWire power adapter is included with
MP1140. If you have purchased MP1100 and did not receive a FireWire adapter with your iPod, you can
purchase the adapter from Apple or the Tekkeon web site.
Note: myPower for iPod cannot be charged via its USB port. This port is for downloading and charging 5V
devices only.
As myPower for iPod is charging, the red and green lights on the front of the unit will turn on in sequence from
left to right. When myPower for iPod is charged to 65% capacity, the third green light turns on. Continue to
charge myPower for iPod for an additional 2 hours.
To charge myPower for iPod using a FireWire power adapter:
1. Connect one end of the myPower for iPod FireWire cable into the Firewire power adapter,
and plug the other end of the cable into the FireWire port on myPower for iPod.
2. Plug the power adapter into a working electrical outlet.
3. After three hours, unplug the power adapter as myPower for iPod will be fully charged.
(myPower for iPod will automatically shut down the power input when it is fully charged,
so you can charge it overnight.)
To charge myPower for iPod using the FireWire port:
1. Connect one end of the myPower for iPod FireWire cable into the FireWire port on your computer, and plug
the other end of the cable into the FireWire port on myPower for iPod.
2. After three hours, unplug the power adapter as myPower for iPod will be fully charged. (myPower for iPod
will automatically shut down the power input when it is fully charged, so you can charge it overnight.)
Note: FireWire ports on some Windows-compatible computers may be 4-pin FireWire ports that are not
powered (rather than 6-pin ports). A 4-pin port cannot charge myPower for iPod when it is connected to that
port. In this case, you need to charge myPower for iPod using the FireWire power adapter.

Using myPower
for iPod
Placing iPod into
myPower for iPod
To place iPod (except iPod mini)
into myPower for iPod, you must
first adhere sizing pads that hold
your specific model iPod into
place. Two types of sizing pads are
provided: round sizing pads for the
back plate, and rectangular sizing
pads for the arms. This table
indicates the sizing pads that
should be adhered for your iPod.
Sizing pads are not required for
iPod mini as a custom arm holds
the iPod mini in place.
To adhere the round sizing
pads:
1. Peel the paper from the
appropriate sizing pads and
adhere each pad onto one of
the circles on
the back plate
of myPower
for iPod.

USER GUIDE
Charging iPod
For your convenience, you can charge iPod at the same time you charge myPower for
iPod. While you are charging myPower for iPod using the FireWire power adapter or a
FireWire connection, you can leave iPod inserted into myPower for iPod and the charge
will pass through from the power source. This pass-through charging is only available
while myPower for iPod is connected to a power source.
To charge the iPod battery while charging myPower for iPod:
1. With iPod inserted into myPower for iPod, switch the myPower for iPod power switch to Off.
2. Connect myPower for iPod to a power source (as described on page 3) to begin charging.
3. When both units are fully charged, remove the power source. (Each device will automatically shut down the
power input when it is fully charged, so you can leave both units connected until both are charged.)
NOTE: As myPower for iPod is charging, the red and green lights on the front of the unit will turn on in
sequence from left to right to indicate the increase in battery capacity. At the same time, the iPod battery icon
will animate to show that the battery is charging, and will stop animating to indicate that the battery is fully
charged.
TIP: If you are charging both units via the FireWire port, you can transfer files to iPod at the same time. If you
are charging both units using the FireWire power adapter, you can use the myPower for iPod USB 2.0 cable to
transfer files to iPod. (See Connecting and Disconnecting myPower for iPod.) Please note that charging both
units at the same time will extend the charging time.

Troubleshooting
Issue
myPower for iPod does not power iPod.
myPower for iPod does not charge
your mobile phone, or other 5V device.
Solution
1.Check that iPod is inserted securely into myPower for iPod and that
the myPower for iPod power switch is switched to On.
2.Check the capacity lights on the front of myPower for iPod to verify
that myPower for iPod has enough capacity remaining as shown here:
3.If only the red light is on or all lights are off, charge myPower for
iPod.
1.Check that the myPower for iPod power switch is switched to On.
2.Verify that the voltage and current consumption of the device you
wish to charge is not more than 5V or 500mA. If the device consumes
more than the maximum provided by myPower for iPod, the device
will shut down when turned on and cannot be charged by myPower
for iPod.
3.Check that the USB charging cable is connected to both myPower for
iPod and the device, and that the adapter plug fits snugly into the
power jack on your device. If not, try another adapter.
4.Verify that the polarity of the charging cable power jack matches the
adapter plug. To do this, identify the device polarity by locating the
polarity symbol in the area around the power connector jack:
CAPACITY INFORMATION
When LED is on % Capacity Remaining
Third Green LED 70 - 100%
Second Green LED 35 - 70%
First Green LED 5 - 35%
Red LED 1 – 5%
No LED 0%

Troubleshooting (continued)
Issue
myPower for iPod does not charge your
mobile phone, or other 5V device.

Nothing happens when iPod is
connected to your computer.

USER GUIDE
Solution
If the device polarity is center positive, match the positive
symbol (+) on the selected adapter plug to the positive
symbol on the power output cord and connect as shown
in the top right figure. If the device polarity is center
negative, match the positive symbol (+) on the selected
adapter plug to negative symbol (-) on the output cable
and connect as shown in the bottom right figure.
5.Verify that a battery is installed in the device as some devices will not
function without a battery installed.
1.Check the cable connection. Unplug the cable at both ends and make
sure no foreign objects are in the FireWire or USB ports, and then
plug in the cable.
2.Ensure that you have installed the software from the iPod CD, and that
you are using the required computer and software. See the iPod
User’s Guide.
3.If you are connected via the USB port, ensure that the USB port on
your computer is USB 2.0 and not USB 1.1. USB 1.1 is not supported
and is significantly slower than the USB 2.0 and FireWire connections.
4. Ensure that you not connected via the FireWire port, if you are using
an iPod 5G (video). For this iPod, you must connect via the USB port.
