Safety Precautions
This document uses of symbols and alerts to identify the level of risk associated with certain uses or misuses of the
product. Failure to follow all precautions and alerts may result in an unsafe use or operation. Thoroughly read this
document and understand all installation procedures, operation check procedures and maintenance procedures before
using the product.
The following are the symbols and alerts used for Warnings:
Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, will result in minor or
moderate injury, or may result in serious injury or death. Additionally there may be
significant property damage.
The symbols below are combined with alert statements used to differentiate between mandatory and prohibited actions.
Indicates prohibited actions.
Indicated mandatory actions.
W A R N I N G S
Before installing and using the D40R, carefully read the Safety Precautions attached to the product.
Operate this product only when it is properly installed, tested and inspected in accordance with all
applicable government, industry and company safety regulations. Serious injury may occur due to
loss of required safety functions.
DO NOT disassemble the D40R-LMB. Doing so may damage the product or cause fire or electric
shock, resulting in serious injury.
DO NOT use the D40R-LMB where flammable gases or explosive gases may be present. Doing so
may cause combustion or explosion due to relay heating or arcing during switching. Serious injury or
property damage may occur.
DO NOT use the D40R-LMB for machines that cannot be stopped by electrical control. For example,
DO NOT use it for a pressing machine that uses full-rotation clutch. Otherwise, the machine may not
stop before a person reaches the hazardous part, resulting in serious injury.
Wire D40R-LMB properly so that the +24 VDC line does NOT touch the outputs. Serious injury or
death may occur due to bypassing the safety function of the D40R.
DO NOT use on systems with a positive ground (earth). If safety outputs short to a positive ground,
the safety function of the D40R is bypassed and serious injury or death may occur.
DO NOT use the auxiliary output in a safety function. Serious injury or death may occur.
DO NOT connect loads beyond the rated values to the safety outputs. Serious injury may occur due
to breakdown of safety outputs.
Precaution for Safe Use
The D40R-LMB must be installed by qualified personnel.
The D40R-LMB must be periodically inspected by qualified personnel.
DO NOT operate the D40R outside its rated supply voltage. The product may be damaged
or heat up enough to injure the operator.
Do not place heavy goods on the product during transportation or storage. The product may be
damaged and may not function properly.
Wire the power supply and other terminals properly and check the operation before
commissioning. Otherwise, the D40R-LMB may not operate correctly or be destroyed, or the
surface temperature may be high enough to injure the operator.
DO NOT connect load beyond the rated value to the auxiliary output. Product may be damaged
or heat up enough to injure the operator.
Precaution for Correct Use
Do not drop or place heavy goods on the product during transportation or storage. The product
may be damaged and may not function properly.
Do not store or use the products under the following conditions. The product may be damaged
and not functioning properly.
In direct sunlight
At ambient/storage temperatures not between -25 and 80°C
Where subject to vibration or mechanical shock beyond the rated values
Where subject to contact with water, oil, or chemicals
Dispose of the product in accordance with the relevant rules and regulations of the country or
area where the product is used.

IMPORTA
NT NOTE:
Read and understand these instructions before installing, operating, or maintaining this equipment.
The produ
ct is designed to be a component of a customized safety oriented control system. It is the responsibility of the user to ensure the correct overall
functionality of its systems and machines. Omron Robotics and Safety Technologies, Inc. (ORT) its subsidiaries and affiliates, are not in a position to guarantee
all of the characteristics of a given system or product not designed by Omron ORT.
APPLICATION:
RFID Coded Non-Contact Safety Switches are designed to interlock hinged, sliding or removable guard doors. They are specifically advantageous when:
a) poor guard alignment exists
b) high level anti-tamper is required
c) high hygiene requirements exist e.g. food industry hose down
d) long mechanical life is required (no moving or touching parts)
When used in combination with a Dual Channel Safety Control Device, RFID Coded Non-Contact Safety Switches can be used to provide protection up to Category 4 and PLe to ISO13849-1.
OPERATION:
All RFID Coded Non-Contact Safety Switches are designed to conform to EN60947-5-3 and be used as directed by ISO14119 and EN ISO12100.
They have coded RFID and magnetic sensing which provides a wide (>10mm) sensing distance and provides a high tolerance to misalignment after sensing. They can operate in extreme
environments of temperature and moisture. The switches are provided factory coded either uniquely (U types) or by a basic code (B types). For U types the individual code numbers are
shown on the reverse of switch / actuator. For B types (basic code) any actuator will operate any switch.
If a Basic B type actuator is to be changed then a re-teach process is needed. Power down – place new actuator to switch – Power up.
IMPORTANT:
Record any RFID codes as required by factory rules or with reference to any risk assessment for the particular application.
The Risk Assessment for the particular application should include the risk of spare actuators. Spare actuators should not be readily available and must be securely controlled.
The safety functions and mechanics must be tested regularly. For applications were infrequent guard access is foreseeable, the system must have a manual function test to detect a possible
accumulation of faults. At least once per month for PLe Cat3/4 or once per year for PLd Cat3 (ISO13849-1). Where possible it is recommended that the control system of the machine
demands and monitors these tests, and stops or prevents the machine from starting if the test is not done. (See ISO14119).
INSTALLATION:
Installation of all RFID Coded Non-Contact Safety Switches must be in accordance with a risk assessment for the individual application.
The use of a Safety Relay or Control Device is required for monitoring RFID Coded switches. These devices monitor 2 redundant circuits as per ISO13849-1 for up to PLe / Category 4
protection.
M4 mounting bolts must be used to fix the switches. Tightening torque for mounting bolts to ensure reliable fixing is 1.0 Nm. Always mount on Non Ferrous materials.
The recommended setting gap is 5mm. The Safety Switch must not be used as a mechanical stop or be adjusted by striking with a hammer.
The actuator must not be allowed to strike the switch. Do not mount adjacent switches or actuators closer than 100mm.
Typical misalignment tolerance after setting is 5mm.
After installation always check each switch function by opening and closing each guard individually in turn and ensuring that the Green LED on the switch and the LEDs on the Safety Relay
are illuminated when the switch is closed and are extinguished when the switch is open. Check that the machine stops and cannot be re-started when each switch is open.
