This unit complies with safety standard EN60950-1 as appropriate. The unit shall not be exposed to dripping or splashing and no objects filled with
liquids, such as coffee cups, shall be placed on the equipment. To ensure safe operation and to guard against potential shock hazard or risk of fire, the
following must be observed:
o Ensure that your mains supply is in the correct range for the input power requirement of the unit.
oEnsure fuses fitted are the correct rating and type as marked on the unit.
oThe unit must be earthed by connecting to a correctly wired and earthed power outlet.

isdesignedspecificallyforcable,satellite,IPTV,andterrestrialTVbroadcastersthat
employafilebasedinfrastructureandworkflow.TheDP600includesthe
worldsfirst
intelligentaudioanalysisandautomatedloudnessnorma lizationengineformanyofthe
mostcommonbroadcastmediafileandaudioformatsinusetoday.Inaddition,itoffers
DolbyE,DolbyDigital,andDolbyDigitalPlusencoding,decoding,andtranscoding,allin
anopenarchitecture.
UsingtheDP600,broadcasterscan
providetheirviewerswithaconsistentaudio
experienceandreduceloudnesscomplaintsacrossalloftheirprograms,channels,and
networks.ExpandingupontheuniqueDialogueIntelligence™technologydevelopedfor
theDolbyLM100BroadcastLoudnessMeter,theDP600normalizestheloudnessofaudio
programswithnoimpactontheiroriginaldynamic
range.
TheDP600automatespreviouslylengthyqualitycontrolprocesses,and performsthemin
fasterthan realtime.ItautomaticallyanalyzesaudiobitstreamscodedinDolbyE,Dolby
Digital,andDolbyDigitalPlus,foranychannelconfigurationandloudnesslevel.It
intelligentlyandautomaticallysets,validates,andcorrectsthedialoguenormalization
(dialnorm)
audiometadataparameterwithouttheneedfordecodingandreencoding—
ensuringaproperlyencodedbitstream.TheDP600alsoprovidesintelligentand automatic
speechbasedloudnessnormalizationforbothPCMau dio andMPEG1LIIaudio.
Forcompressedaudioformatsthatincludemetadata(forexample,DolbyE,DolbyDigital,
andDolbyDigitalPlus),
theDolbyDP600canautomaticallysetorcorrectthedialnorm
parameter(seeFigure 11).Foraudioformatsthatdonotincludemetadata,theDolby
DP600canautomaticallysetorcorrectthedialnormparameterbyreferencinga
userdefinedtargetlevel(seeFigure 12).
TheModelDP600Caddsfaster
thanrealtimefilebasedencodinganddecodingofDolby
DigitalandDolbyDigitalPlus,andthefirstfilebasedimplementationofDolbyE.In
addition,thismodelenablesmultichannelaudiotranscodingofDolbyEtoDolbyDigital
orDolbyDigitalPlusformats.Italsoprovidesauniquehighquality,single
stepDolby
DigitaltoDolbyDigitalPlustranscoderthatpreservesthemetadataandminimizes
tandemcodinglosses.Thisallowstheaudiofromexistingmediaarchivestobeconverted
tonextgenerationbroadcastformats.

1.1 Work Flow Integration
YoucanintegratetheDP600intoanexistingfilebasednetworkinfrastructurewherethe
unitfunctionsasanintelligentprocessingnode.Inthisenvironment,theDP600adaptsto
yourdaytodayoperationsandworkflow,whichincludes:
•Programingest,audiotranscoding,andqualitycontrol:Newlyingestedcontentcan
berouted
throughtheDP600forloudnessanalysisand correction,encoding,
decoding,andtranscodingprocessesbeforebeingmovedtoyourmediastorage
libraryorplayoutserver.
Postproduction:FilebasedDolbyE,DolbyDigital,andDolbyDigitalPlusbitstreams
canbeencodedanddecodedtoand frommultichannel.
wavorBroadcastWAV
Format(BWF)fileswithmetadata(includedintheDolbyaudio metadatachunk).
Filebasedmediaandaudioassetscanbeanalyzed,logged,and(ifnecessary)
correctedinfasterthanrealtimebeforedeliverytoclients.
•Adinsertion:Newlyingestedadcontentcanbepasseddirectlytothe
DP600for
loudnessanalysisandcorrectionbeforeit’splacedinyourstoragearchiveorad
server.
•Videoondemand(VOD):CustomerfacingVODservers,asinstalledatcableand
IPTVheadends,needtohavetheircontentnormalizedbeforeitismadeavailableto
thepublic.Thiscontentcanbesupplied
totheserverseitherdirectly,viaaningest
departmentatthebroadcasteroraffiliate,orviasatellitefromoneormorecontent
aggregators.TheDP600canbeinstalledatthecontentaggregator,normalizing
contentbeforeitissent(ʺpitchedʺ)overthesatellitelink.Alternatively,itcan be
installed
attheheadend,takingcontentthathaseitherbeeningesteddirectlyor
caughtfromoneormorepitchersandnormalizingitbeforeitispassedtothe
customerfacingserver.
1.2 Work Flow Flexibility and Ease of Use
TheDolbyDP600platformsuitsseveraltypesofapplications,includingarchiving,
automatedqualitycontrol,contentconversion,andmediaassetmanagement,anditoffers
considerablepotentialforintegrationwiththirdpartysystemsthroughanopen
applicationprogramming interface(API).
YoucancontroltheDP600anditsprocessingenginesinthreewaysto
suitspecificuser
requirements.
•Manualcontrol:Userscansetupandinitiateworkordersonanindividualorbatch
basisfromasimpletouseinterface.
•ThirdpartycontrolviaWebservices:Toenablesystemintegrationatanylevel,the
DP600’sprocessingenginesarealsoavailableasasetofWeb
services.Thisallows
manufacturerstointegratetheseenginesdirectlyintotheirworkflowtocreatea
seamlessuserexperiencewithoutimpactingdaytodayoperations.
•Automatichotfol deringestprocess:Userscancreatehotfoldersandpredefinea
workorderprofileforeachone.TheprofilegovernstheDP600’sbehavior
with
specificbroadcastmediatypes.Allmediafilesmovedtoahotfolderare
automaticallyprocessedbasedonthefoldersprofileanddeliveredtoauserdefined
folderuponcompletion.Hotfoldersareeasytosetupanduseandcangreatlyspeed

flashesredifeitheroftheredundantpowersuppliesfails.
Temperature:ThistricolorLEDglowsgreenwhenthetemperatureoftheunitis
cool,yellowifthetemperatureiswarm,andredifthetemperatureishot.Ifthis
LEDisyelloworred,theoperatingenvironmentmaybe
warmerthanexpected
andinneedofmodification.Insuchacase,callyourDolbyauthorizedtechnical

1.5.5 Internal Drive Indicators
TheDP600hasfivephysicalinternalharddrives.Drives1and2arearrangedina
RAID1configurationtoprovideprotectionfortheoperat ingsystemaswellas
localstorage.Theremainingthreeharddrivesareconfiguredasseparatedrivesto
providelocalstorage.ThisconfigurationofoneRAIDpair
andthreeseparate
drivesrepresentsfourlogicaldrives.
TherearefourbicolorLEDsonthefrontpanel,labeled1,2,3,and4.TheseLEDs
indicatethestatusoftheDP600’sfourlogicalinternalharddrives.ThedriveLEDs
functionasfollows:
Off(nonilluminated):Indicatesafunctionaldrivewithno
currentdiskaccess
activity.
Green:Indicatesnormaldriveactivity.
Red:Indicatesadrivefailure.
LED
1 showsthestatusofthetwodriveRAID1configuration.Theoperating
systemisinstalledonthesemirroreddrivestopreventaphysicaldrivefailure,
resultinginaninoperablesystem.Ifeitherofthemirroreddrivesfails,theother
RAIDdriveenablesthesystemtooperatenormallyuntilthefaileddrive
is
replaced.

2,3,and4indicatethestatusoftheotherthreephysicaldisks.Thesedisksare
configuredasseparatedrivesanddonothaveRAIDbackupcapability.Ifanyofthese
drivesfail,thefaileddrivesmustbe replaced,andany workordersinprogressduringthe
failuremustberestarted.
Ifoneof
thedriveLEDsturnsred,refertoTable 11todeterminewhichphysicaldrive
failed.Typically ,theDP600automaticallyrebuildstheRAIDarraywhenoneoftheRAID
driveshasaproblemorisreplaced(withthepoweron). DuringtheRAIDrebuild process,
LED1blinksinredinhalf
secondintervals.Whentherebuildprocessiscomplete,LED1
stopsblinking.
Insomeinstances,youmustinitiatetherebuildprocess manually(asdescribedin
RebuildingaDriveonpage 49).Forexample,ifyoureplaceanonRAIDdrive.
IfyoureplacebothRAIDdrives,youalsoneedtoreinstall
theDP600software.Insucha
case,followtheinstructionsforacleaninstallationinUpgrading/InstallingtheDP600
Softwareonpage 55.Whenyoureinstallthesoftware,thesystemaut o matically
synchronizesthetwoRAIDdrives,recreatingtheoriginalmirroredRAIDarray(manual
rebuildnotrequired).
