INTRODUCTION

This single-burner foundry is ideal for metal casting. The foundry has a

push-button ignition and adjustable flame for fine heat control. The

foundry is fueled with propane.

SAFETY

WARNING! Read and understand all instructions before using this

tool. The operator must follow basic precautions to reduce the risk

of personal injury and/or damage to the equipment.

Keep this manual for safety warnings, precautions, operating or inspection

and maintenance instructions.

WORK AREA

1. Operate in a safe work environment. Keep your work area clean, well-

lit and free of distractions. Place lights so you are not working in a

shadow.

2. Keep anyone not wearing the appropriate safety equipment away

from the work area.

3. Store tools properly in a safe and dry location. Keep tools out of the

reach of children.

4. Do not install or use in the presence of flammable gases, dust or

liquids.

5. Install the foundry in a location without nearby wood or fabric due to

the high temperature generated.

5.1 Clear the floor and walls of an area of all combustible and/or

flammable materials.

5.2 Cover any combustible material with fire resistant covers or

shields, if it cannot be removed.

6. Have a fire extinguisher available for immediate use. Use a dry chemical

fire extinguisher for Types A, B and C.

7. Install the tool in a low-traffic area to prevent potential burn injuries.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

1. Always wear impact safety goggles that provide front and side

protection for the eyes. Eye protection equipment should comply

with CSA Z94.3-07 or ANSI Z87.1 standards based on the type of work

performed.

2. Wear the appropriate type of full-face shield in addition to safety

googles, as the work can create molten, acid or chemical splashes.

3. Wear gloves that provide protection based on the work materials or

to reduce the effects of tool vibration.

4. Wear protective clothing designed for the work environment and

tool.

4.1 Wear a leather apron or jacket, leather welding gloves and full

foot protection. Choose clothing fabrics that resist sparks, heat,

flames and splashes of molten material. Artificial fabrics may

burn and melt, resulting in a more severe injury.

4.2 Do not wear clothes or protective gear that are frayed, oily or

greasy as they may ignite from the heat.

4.3 Do not wear clothing that can hold hot debris or sparks such as

pant cuffs, shirt pockets or boots. Choose clothing that has flaps

over pockets or wear clothing to cover the openings such as pant

legs over the boots or an apron over the shirt.

5. Non-skid footwear is recommended to maintain footing and balance

in the work environment.

6. Wear steel toe footwear or steel toe caps to prevent a foot injury

from falling objects.

7. Wear a NIOSH approved respirator when working on materials that

produce hazardous fumes, dust or particulate matter.

PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS

Control the tool, personal movement and the work environment to avoid

personal injury or damage to the tool.

1. Do not operate any tool when tired or under the influence of drugs,

alcohol or medications.

2. Avoid wearing clothes or jewelry that can become entangled with the

moving parts of a tool. Keep long hair covered or bound.

3. Do not overreach when operating the tool. Proper footing and balance

enables better control in unexpected situations.

4. Do not wear any personal grooming products that are flammable,

such as hair preparations, perfume or cologne with an alcohol base.

5. Remove any combustibles, such as butane lighters or matches, from

your person. Heat may light the matches or ignite leaking lighter fuel.

SPECIFIC SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

WARNING! DO NOT let comfort or familiarity with product (gained

from repeated use) replace strict adherence to the tool safety rules.

If you use this tool unsafely or incorrectly, you can suffer serious

personal injury.

1. Use the correct tool for the job. This tool was designed for a specific

function. Do not modify or alter this tool or use it for an unintended

purpose.

2. Do not use the tool if any parts are damaged, broken or misplaced.

Repair or replace the parts.

3. Do not move, handle or service while hot or burning. Do not attach or

remove a hot or operating tool from the propane tank. The hot tool

can cause a severe burn injury. Allow the tool to cool before handling.

4. Use only propane gas. Do not use liquid propane.

5. Before connecting the tool to the propane tank, make sure the tool

regulator knob is in the OFF position. Always connect and light the

tool in areas free of open flames.

6. Only use the hose and regulator assembly provided with the tool.

Inspect the hose assembly before each use. If there is excessive

abrasion or wear, or the hose is cut, replace the hose before using the

tool again. The hose and regulator must be protected from damage.

7. Do not use the foundry if it is wet or was immersed in water. This will

reduce the effectiveness of the insulation. Have a service technician

inspect the foundry and control system before using it again.

FUMES AND GASES

WARNING! If at any time a gas odour is detected, immediately

discontinue operation until the source of gas has been located

and corrected.

WARNING! Stop working and move to a location with ventilation if

your eyes, nose or throat become irritated. This indicates the

ventilation is not adequate to remove the fumes. Do not resume

working until the ventilation is improved and the discomfort

ceases. Seek medical attention if the symptoms do not diminish or

if the you experiences nausea, dizziness or malaise.

1. Only work in a confined space if the area is well ventilated or while

wearing a respirator or an air-supplied respirator.

2. The area must be well ventilated. Provide a minimum opening of

1 sq. ft. (0.093 m2) near the floor and 1 sq. ft. (0.093 m2) near the

ceiling.

COMPRESSED GAS CYLINDER PRECAUTIONS

WARNING! Improper handling or maintenance of compressed gas

cylinders and regulators can result in serious injury or death. Do

not use a cylinder or its contents for anything other than its

intended use.

Consult the safety instructions on the cylinder or provided by your gas

supplier.

1. Do not deface or alter the name, number or other markings on a

cylinder. Do not connect a regulator to a cylinder that contains a gas that

the regulator was not designed to handle.

2. Do not expose a cylinder to excessive heat, sparks, slag, flame or any

other heat source.

3. Always change a cylinder carefully to prevent leaks and damage to

the cylinder’s walls, valve or safety devices.

4. Gases in the cylinder are under pressure. Protect the cylinder from

bumps, falls, falling objects and harsh weather. A punctured cylinder

under pressure can become a lethal projectile. If a cylinder is

punctured, do not approach until all pressure is released.

4.1 Protect the valve and regulator. Damage to either can result in

regulator’s explosive ejection from the cylinder.

5. Always secure a gas cylinder in a vertical position

6. Do not use a wrench or hammer to open a cylinder valve that cannot

be opened by hand. Notify your supplier for instructions.

7. Do not modify or exchange gas cylinder fittings.

8. Close the cylinder valve and immediately remove the faulty regulator

from service for repair, if any of the following conditions exist:

8.1 Gas leaks externally.

8.2 Delivery pressure continues to rise with the downstream valve

closed.

9. Do not attempt to make regulator repairs. Send faulty regulators to

the manufacturer's designated repair centre.

10. Compressed gas cylinders must not be located in a confined space

with the person welding to prevent the possibility of leaks displacing

the oxygen.

UNPACKING

WARNING! Do not operate the tool if any part is missing. Replace

the missing part before operating. Failure to do so could result in

a malfunction and personal injury.

Remove the parts and accessories from the packaging and inspect for damage.

Make sure that all items in the Identification Key are included.

ASSEMBLY & INSTALLATION

Letter references in parenthesis (A) refer to the included Identification Key.

IMPORTANT! Consult and follow municipal regulations before

installing the foundry.

INSTALLATION LOCATION

WARNING! Install the foundry at least one meter from all walls or make

sure the walls are constructed of fire brick or a similar heat resistant

material. Wood and non-heat resistant structures can ignite.

1. Bolt the foundry to a steel workbench or a bench constructed with

fire brick capable of handling the generated heat (see specifications).

2. The foundry access opening (A) must face away from all structures, as

heat and flame may escape.

2.1 This also allows enough room for easy insertion and removal of

the crucible.

3. The location must have sufficient ventilation to remove the foundry’s

fumes and to provide enough air to allow combustion.

3.1 Do not position the foundry so the breeze carries the fumes

towards you. Position it so there is a cross breeze.

3.2 Install under an exhaust hood or duct if possible.

ASSEMBLY

DANGER! Only use gas-rated thread sealant tape (yellow colour)

for gas connections. The thinner plumbing thread sealant tape will

allow gas to leak and that can result in a fire or explosion

1. Remove the screws from the sides of the foundry (D).

2. Attach a handle (C) to each side. The curved front edge faces

downward. Tighten the screws (Fig. 2).

3. Remove the screws on the sides of the lid.

4. Attach the handle, with word HOT on it, to the lid. Tighten the screws.

5. Remove the four screws around the exhaust pipe port.

6. Fit the burner unit gas exhaust pipe into the opening (Fig. 3). The

exhaust pipe must enter at a 20° angle. Push inward until the pipe

pushes through the insulation. The exhaust pipe should not extend

into the interior (Fig. 4).

7. Secure the burner unit with the four screws.

8. The back of the regulator identifies each port (Fig. 5). Wrap gas-rated

sealant tape on the following three connections before screwing

them into place.

8.1 Screw the pressure gauge into the GAUGE port (Fig. 5-3).

8.2 Screw the gas hose into the OUT port (Fig. 5-1).

8.3 Screw the cylinder connector into the IN port (Fig. 5-2).

9. Make sure that the propane tank valve and the ball valve are both

closed before proceeding.

10. Screw the gas hose’s gas compression coupler to the ball valve on the

burner unit (Fig. 6).

11. Screw the cylinder connector’s gas compression coupler into the

propane tank (Fig. 7).

OPERATION

WARNING! Clear the installation location of all combustable

materials to avoid a fire. Flames and heat may issue from the

access opening (A).

WARNING! Shut the propane cylinder’s valve off if you smell gas

and open windows and doors to ventilate the area. Leaking

propane may ignite and result in a fire or explosion.

CHECK FOR GAS LEAKAGE

Check for gas leakage before each use. The recommended procedure is as

follows:

1. Slowly open the cylinder valve.

2. Set the flow rate on the regulator to approximately 2 to 3 PSI.

3. Close the cylinder valve and pay attention to the needle indicator on

the pressure gauge and wait 15 minutes. If the needle drops away

towards zero, there is a gas leak.

4. After confirming there is a loss of gas, check all connectors and

clamps for leakage by brushing or spraying with soapy water. Bubbles

will appear at the leakage point.

5. Tighten clamps or fittings to eliminate gas leakage. Replace the

clamps and fittings if this fails to solve the problem.

IGNITING THE FOUNDRY

WARNING! Shut the gas off if it fails to ignite after a few seconds

to avoid an explosion or uncontrolled fire. Allow the gas to

disperse before attempting to ignite the foundry again.

The foundry will emit a slight odour (curing paint) for a couple of hours

after it is first lit. Ventilate the area until the smell disperses.

1. Turn the propane cylinder knob to release the gas.

2. Adjust the pressure level by turning the regulator knob and watching

the pressure gauge until it reaches 5 PSI.

3. Open the ball valve to allow the gas to flow into the foundry.

4. Press the ignition button (F) and the gas should ignite.

4.1 Use a long multi-purpose (extended) lighter as an alternative

ignition source.

4.1.1 Stand to one side of the foundry, away from the lid (B)

in case there is an explosion.

4.1.2 Place the lighter slightly into the access opening (A) and

ignite.

4.1.3 Turn the gas on and wait for the gas to ignite.

5. Adjust the pressure regulator knob to increase or decrease the heat

level.

CARE & MAINTENANCE

1. Maintain the tool with care. A tool in good condition is efficient,

easier to control and will have fewer problems.

2. Inspect the tool components periodically. Repair or replace damaged

or worn components. Only use identical replacement parts when

servicing.

3. Only use accessories intended for use with this tool.

4. Have a qualified service technician inspect the foundry before use.

5. Keep control compartments, burners and air passageways clean.

6. Maintain the tool’s labels and name plates. These carry important

information. If unreadable or missing, contact Princess Auto Ltd. for

replacements.

WARNING! Only qualified service personnel should repair the tool.

An improperly repaired tool may present a hazard to the user

and/or others.

DISPOSAL

Recycle a tool damaged beyond repair at the appropriate facility.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Visit a Princess Auto Ltd. location for a solution if the tool does not

function properly or parts are missing. If unable to do so, have a qualified

technician service the tool.

INTRODUCTION

Cette fonderie à brûleur unique est idéale pour le coulage de métal. La

fonderie est dotée d’un dispositif d’allumage à bouton-poussoir et d’une

flamme ajustable pour régler avec précision la chaleur. La forge est

alimentée au propane.

AIRE DE TRAVAIL

1. Travaillez dans un environnement de travail sécuritaire. Gardez votre aire

4. N'installez pas et n'utilisez pas d'outils électriques en présence de

gaz, de poussière ou de liquides inflammables.

5. Installez la fonderie à bonne distance de bois ou de tissu, car

l’appareil génère de hautes températures.

5.1 Éliminez toute matière combustible et/ou inflammable du

plancher et des murs.

5.2 Recouvrez toute matière combustible au moyen de couvercles

ou de protecteurs ignifuges s'il est impossible de l'enlever.

6. Assurez-vous de disposer d'un extincteur à la portée de la main.

Utiliser un extincteur à poudre pour feux de type A, B et C.

7. Installez l’outil dans un endroit où la circulation est moindre pour

éviter les blessures éventuelles par brûlure.

SÉCURITÉ PERSONNELLE

AVERTISSEMENT ! Portez de l'équipement de protection personnelle

homologué par l'Association canadienne de normalisation (CSA) ou

l'American National Standards Institute (ANSI).

ÉQUIPEMENT DE PROTECTION PERSONNELLE

1. Portez toujours des lunettes antiprojections qui offrent une

protection frontale et latérale pour les yeux. L'équipement de

protection des yeux devrait être conforme à la norme CSA Z94.3-07

ou ANSI Z87.1 fonction du type de travail effectué.

2. Portez un écran facial panoramique de type approprié avec les lunettes

effilochés, huileux ou graisseux, puisqu’ils peuvent s’allumer

sous la chaleur.

4.3 Ne portez pas des vêtements pouvant retenir les débris chauds

ou les étincelles, comme un pantalon à revers, des poches de

chemise ou des bottes. Choisissez des vêtements dont les

poches présentent des rabats ou portez des vêtements qui

recouvrent les ouvertures, comme un pantalon recouvrant les

bottes ou un tablier au-dessus de votre chemise.

5. Les chaussures antidérapantes sont recommandées pour maintenir la

stabilité et l'équilibre au sein de l'environnement de travail.

6. Portez des chaussures à embout d'acier ou à coquilles d'acier pour éviter

les blessures aux pieds dues à la chute d'objets.

7. Portez un appareil respiratoire approuvé par la NIOSH pour travailler

sur des matériaux qui produisent des émanations dangereuses, de la

poussière ou des particules.

PRÉCAUTIONS PERSONNELLES

Gardez le contrôle de l'outil, de vos mouvements et de l'environnement

de travail pour éviter les blessures ou le bris de l'outil.

1. N'utilisez pas l'outil si vous êtes fatigué ou sous l'effet de drogues,

produits préparés pour les cheveux, du parfum ou de l'eau de

Cologne à base d'alcool.

5. Enlevez tout combustible comme des briquets au butane ou des

allumettes que vous pourriez transporter. La chaleur pourraient

allumer des allumettes ou le combustible fuyant de l'allumeur.

4. Utilisez uniquement du gaz propane. N’utilisez pas le propane liquide.

5. Avant de brancher l'outil au réservoir de gaz propane, assurez-vous

que le bouton de réglage de l'outil se trouve à la position OFF (arrêt).

Branchez et allumez toujours l'outil dans un endroit exempt de

flammes.

6. Utilisez uniquement le tuyau et le régulateur fournis avec l'outil.

Inspectez le tuyau avant chaque usage. En cas d'abrasion ou d'usure

excessive ou si le tuyau est coupé, remplacez-le avant d'utiliser de

nouveau l'outil. Le tuyau et le régulateur doivent être protégés des

dommages.

7. N’utilisez pas la fonderie si elle est humide ou si elle a été immergée

ÉMANATIONS ET GAZ

AVERTISSEMENT ! Advenant la détection d'une odeur de gaz,

cessez immédiatement d'utiliser l'outil jusqu'à ce que vous ayez

repéré et corrigé la source de gaz.

AVERTISSEMENT ! Arrêtez le travail si vous ressentez une irritation

dans les yeux, le nez ou la gorge et déplacez-vous vers un endroit

doté de ventilation. Cela indique que la ventilation ne suffit pas pour

éliminer les émanations. Ne reprenez pas le soudage avant que la

ventilation ne soit améliorée et que votre inconfort ait disparu.

Consultez un médecin si les symptômes ne s’atténuent pas ou si vous

souffrez de nausées, d’étourdissements ou de malaise.

1. Travaillez dans un espace clos seulement si cet espace est bien aéré

ou si vous portez un appareil respiratoire à adduction d'air.

2. La zone doit être bien aérée. Assurez un ouverture minimale de 0,093

mètre carré (1 pi carré) près du plancher et de 0,093 mètre carré (1 pi

carré) près du plafond.

AVERTISSEMENT ! Une manutention ou un entretien inadéquat

des bouteilles de gaz comprimé et des régulateurs peut entraîner

des blessures graves ou même la mort. N'utilisez pas une

bouteille ou son contenu autrement que pour la raison pour

laquelle ils ont été conçus.

Consultez les consignes de sécurité indiquées sur la bouteille ou fournies

par votre fournisseur de gaz.

1. Ne trafiquez ou ne modifiez pas le nom, le numéro ou toute autre

marque qui apparaît sur une bouteille. Ne reliez pas un régulateur à

une bouteille qui contient un gaz qui ne correspond pas au type de

régulateur.

2. N'exposez pas une bouteille à une chaleur excessive, des étincelles,

des scories, des flammes ou toute autre source de chaleur.

3. Changez toujours la bouteille avec prudence afin de prévenir les

fuites et les dommages au niveau des parois, de la soupape ou des

dispositifs de sécurité de la bouteille.

4. Les gaz que renferme la bouteille sont sous pression. Protégez la

bouteille contre les coups, les chutes d'objets et les conditions

météorologiques difficiles. Une bouteille sous pression percée peut

devenir un projectile mortel. Si une bouteille est perforée, ne

l'approchez pas avant que toute la pression ait été évacuée.

4.1 Protégez la soupape et le régulateur. Une soupape ou un

régulateur endommagé peut provoquer une explosion ayant

pour effet de projeter le régulateur hors de la bouteille.

5. Retenez toujours une bouteille de gaz en position verticale.

5.1 Ne laissez pas la bouteille dans un passage ou dans une aire de

travail où l'on pourrait la frapper.

6. N'utilisez pas de clé ou un marteau pour ouvrir le robinet de bouteille

que vous ne parvenez pas à ouvrir à la main. Avisez votre fournisseur

et demandez-lui les instructions.

7. Ne modifiez et n'échangez pas les raccords d'une bouteille de gaz.

8. Fermez le robinet de bouteille et retirez immédiatement le régulateur

défectueux du service pour le réparer dans les cas suivants :

8.1 Fuites de gaz à l'extérieur

8.2 La pression de distribution continue d'augmenter alors que

lasoupape en aval est fermée.

9. N'essayez pas de réparer le régulateur. Confiez les régulateurs

défectueux au centre de réparation désigné par le fabricant.

10. Les bouteilles de gaz comprimé ne doivent pas se trouver dans un

lieu confiné en compagnie du soudeur afin d'éviter le risque de fuites

qui entraîneraient un déplacement de l'oxygène.

DÉBALLAGE

AVERTISSEMENT ! Ne faites pas fonctionner l'outil si des pièces

sont manquantes. Remplacez les pièces manquantes avant

l'utilisation. Le non-respect de cet avertissement peut entraîner

une défectuosité et des blessures graves.

Retirez les pièces et les accessoires de l'emballage et vérifiez s'il y a des

dommages. Assurez-vous que tous les articles dans le guide

d’identification sont compris.

EMPLACEMENT D’INSTALLATION

AVERTISSEMENT! Installez la fonderie à au moins un mètre de tous

les murs ou assurez-vous que les murs sont faits de briques à feu ou

dans un matériau similaire thermorésistant. Le bois et les structures

non thermorésistantes peuvent s’enflammer.
