Drive(SerialATA).Hereafteritiscalledthedrive.

Productdescription

ThedriveisdesignedforinstallationinacomputerthathasaSerialATA(SATA)connector.

ThedrivecanreadCDandDVDmedia,includingaudioCD,videoCD,DVD+RDL,DVD-RDL,DVD-RAM,

andDVDvideo.Italsocanreadmultiple-sessionandextendedarchitectureCDmedia.

Thedrivedeliversdataatupto40timesthestandardCD-ROMdrivespeed(40X)forCD-RandCD-ROM

media,andatupto16timesthestandardDVD-ROMdrivespeed(16X)forDVDmedia.

Thischapterprovidesinformationabouthowtoinstallthedriveandsoftware.

Beforeyoubegin

Beforeinstallingthedrive,readthefollowinginformationcarefully.

•Thedriveisshippedwithastatic-protectivepackage.Donotopenthepackageuntilyouarereadyto

installthedrive.

•Limityourmovementwheninstallingthedrive.Movementcancausestaticelectricitytobuildup

aroundyou.

•Carefullyhandlethedrive.Shakingordroppingthedrivemightdamagethecomponentsinsidethedrive.

•TakecautionwhenconnectingthepowercableorSATAcabletoavoiddamagingtheconnectorsorthe

drive.

Installingthedrive

Youcaninstallthedrivehorizontallyorverticallyinacomputer.Forbothinstallationways,youmustsecure

thediscthatyouinsertbeforeyouclosethedisctray,orthedrivewillnotbeabletoreadthedisccorrectly.

Toinstallthedrive,dothefollowing:

1.Turnoffallattacheddevicesandthecomputer.Then,disconnectallpowercordsfromelectricaloutlets

anddisconnectallcablesthatareconnectedtothecomputer.

2.Removethecomputercover.Refertothedocumentationthatcamewithyourcomputerforinstructions

onremovingthecomputercover.

3.Locatethedrivebay.

4.Touchthestatic-protectivepackagethatcontainsthedrivetoanyunpaintedsurfaceforatleasttwo

seconds.Then,takethedriveoutofthepackage.

5.Slidethedriveintothedrivebay.

6.Alignthescrewholesinthedrivewiththoseinthebracket.Then,tightenthescrewstoinstallthedrive.

Note:Besuretousethescrewsintheoptionpackagetoinstallthedrive.Usinganyscrewsotherthan

thoseprovidedmightdamagethedrive.

7.Connectthepowercable1andSATAcable2totherearofthedrive.Then,connecttheotherendof

theSATAcabletotheappropriateSATAconnectoronthesystemboardinyourcomputer.

Installingsoftware

Afteryouhaveinstalledthedrivetoyourcomputer,youcaninstallthesoftwareontheSoftwareandUser

GuideDisc.Forthedetailedsoftwaredescription,see“Softwaredescription”onpage2.

Toinstallthesoftware,dothefollowing:

1.Saveanyopendocumentsandexitallapplications.

2.InserttheSoftwareandUserGuideDiscanddooneofthefollowing:

•Ifthediscstartsautomatically,gotostep3.

•IftheAutoPlaywindowopens,clickRunViewHtml.exe.Then,gotostep3.

•Ifthediscdoesnotstartautomatically,gointoMyComputerorComputer,browsetheCD/DVD

drive,anddouble-clickViewHtml.exe.

3.Selectyourlanguage.

4.Ontheleftsideofthewindow,clickSoftware.

5.Followtheinstructionsonthescreen.

Thischapterprovidesinformationabouthowtousethedrive.

Insertingadisc

Toinsertadiscintothedrive,dothefollowing:

1.Turnonthecomputer.

2.PresstheOpen/Closebutton.

3.Insertadiscwiththelabelfacingupintothedisctray,andmakesurethatthediscisplacedsecurely.

4.ClosethedisctraybypressingtheOpen/Closebuttonorbygentlypushingthedisctrayin.

Manuallyopeningthedisctray

IfyoupresstheOpen/Closebuttonandthedisctraydoesnotopen,dothefollowingtomanuallyopen

thedisctray:

1.Turnoffthecomputer.

2.Straightenapaperclipwiththestraightenedendextendingatleast45mm(1.8inches).

3.Insertthestraightenedendintotheemergencyejecthole(see“Locatingthecontrols”onpage2),and

pushthepaperclipintotheholeuntilthedisctrayopens.

4.Gentlypullthedisctrayoutuntilyoucanremovethedisc.

Caringforthedrive

Toprotectyourdrive,takethefollowingprecautions:

•Donotstackobjectsonthedrive.

Note:Keeptheoriginalpackagingmaterials.Ifyouneedtoshipthedrivetoadifferentlocation,usethe

originalpackagingmaterialstomakesurethatthedriveissafelypackagedfortransportation.

Caringfordiscs

Discsarehigh-densitymediathatmustbehandledwithcareandkeptcleantoensurethattheyremain

readableandwritable.Takethefollowingprecautionstoextendtheservicelifeofyourdiscs.

Forhandling:

•Donotbendorﬂexdiscs.

•Donotinsertdiscsintothedriveorpackagingmaterialswithforce.

•Donottouchthesurfaceofdiscs.

•Donottouchtherecordingareaofadiscwhenhandlingbaremedia.

•Donotusediscsthatarecracked.

•Handlediscsbytheedgesorthecenterhole.

•Removediscsfromthedisctraywhennotinuse.

Forstoring:

•Storediscsintheiroriginalpackaging.

•Storediscsawayfromdirectheatsources.

•Storediscsoutofdirectsunlight,hightemperatures,andhighhumidity.

Thischapterprovidestroubleshootinghintsandtipstoassistyouwhenyouexperienceproblemswithyour

drive.Youmightalsoneedtorefertothepublicationsthatcomewithyourcomputer.

Ifyouencounteranyofthefollowingproblemswhenusingthedrive,refertothecorrespondinganswers.

TheDVDplaybackcannotresumeafteryourcomputerresumesfromsuspendmode.

Thisisnormalwithsomedevicedrivers.TheDVDplaybackwillcontinueafteryouexitandrestartthe

CorelWinDVDprogram.

DVDmoviesdonotstartautomaticallywhenyouinsertthediscintothedrive.

Youmighthavechosentoalwaysstartdatadiscsinﬁleonlymode.RefertotheMicrosoft

Windows

Help

andSupportprogram.

Amessageisdisplayed,indicatingthatthereisacopyprotectionerror,andplaybackstopswhen

usingtheCorelWinDVDprogram.

Dooneofthefollowing:

•Ifanexternalmonitorisconnected,makesurethattheexternalmonitorisconnectedtoadigitalvideo

outputconnectoronyourcomputer,suchasaHighDeﬁnitionMultimediaInterface(HDMI),DisplayPort,

orDigitalVisualInterface(DVI)connector.

•MakesurethatyourgraphicscardandtheProtectedMediaPathareworkingcorrectlywhenyouare

usingthedriveonWindowsoperatingsystems.

CustomerResponsibilitiesforWarrantyService

•backuporsecureallprogramsanddatacontainedintheproduct;

•providetheServiceProviderwithallsystemkeysorpasswords;

•providetheServiceProviderwithsufﬁcient,free,andsafeaccesstoyourfacilitiestoperformservice;

•removealldata,includingconﬁdentialinformation,proprietaryinformationandpersonalinformation,from

theproductor,ifyouareunabletoremoveanysuchinformation,modifytheinformationtopreventits

accessbyanotherpartyorsothatitisnotpersonaldataunderapplicablelaw.TheServiceProvidershall

notberesponsibleforthelossordisclosureofanydata,includingconﬁdentialinformation,proprietary

information,orpersonalinformation,onaproductreturnedoraccessedforwarrantyservice;

•removeallfeatures,parts,options,alterations,andattachmentsnotcoveredbythewarranty;

•ensurethattheproductorpartisfreeofanylegalrestrictionsthatpreventitsreplacement;

WhatY ourServiceProviderWillDotoCorrectProblems

WhenyoucontactaServiceProvider,youmustfollowthespeciﬁedproblemdeterminationandresolution

procedures.

TheServiceProviderwillattempttodiagnoseandresolveyourproblembytelephone,e-mailorremote

assistance.TheServiceProvidermaydirectyoutodownloadandinstalldesignatedsoftwareupdates.

Someproblemsmayberesolvedwithareplacementpartthatyouinstallyourselfcalleda“Customer

ReplaceableUnit”or“CRU.”Ifso,theServiceProviderwillshiptheCRUtoyouforyoutoinstall.

Ifyourproblemcannotberesolvedoverthetelephone;throughtheapplicationofsoftwareupdatesor

theinstallationofaCRU,theServiceProviderwillarrangeforserviceunderthetypeofwarrantyservice

designatedfortheproductunder“Part3-WarrantyServiceInformation”below.

IftheServiceProviderdeterminesthatitisunabletorepairyourproduct,theServiceProviderwillreplace

itwithonethatisatleastfunctionallyequivalent.

IftheServiceProviderdeterminesthatitisunabletoeitherrepairorreplaceyourproduct,yoursole

remedyunderthisLimitedWarrantyistoreturntheproducttoyourplaceofpurchaseortoLenovofora

refundofyourpurchaseprice.

ReplacementProductsandParts

Whenwarrantyserviceinvolvesthereplacementofaproductorpart,thereplacedproductorpartbecomes

Lenovo’spropertyandthereplacementproductorpartbecomesyourproperty.OnlyunalteredLenovo

productsandpartsareeligibleforreplacement.ThereplacementproductorpartprovidedbyLenovomay

notbenew,butitwillbeingoodworkingorderandatleastfunctionallyequivalenttotheoriginalproductor

part.Thereplacementproductorpartshallbewarrantedforthebalanceoftheperiodremainingonthe

originalproduct.

UseofPersonalContactInformation

Ifyouobtainserviceunderthiswarranty,youauthorizeLenovotostore,useandprocessinformationabout

yourwarrantyserviceandyourcontactinformation,includingname,phonenumbers,address,ande-mail

address.Lenovomayusethisinformationtoperformserviceunderthiswarranty.Wemaycontactyouto

inquireaboutyoursatisfactionwithourwarrantyserviceortonotifyyouaboutanyproductrecallsorsafety

issues.Inaccomplishingthesepurposes,youauthorizeLenovototransferyourinformationtoanycountry

•uninterruptedorerror-freeoperationofaproduct;

•lossof,ordamageto,yourdatabyaproduct;

•anysoftwareprograms,whetherprovidedwiththeproductorinstalledsubsequently;

•failureordamageresultingfrommisuse,abuse,accident,modiﬁcation,unsuitablephysicaloroperating

environment,naturaldisasters,powersurges,impropermaintenance,orusenotinaccordancewith

productinformationmaterials;

•damagecausedbyanon-authorizedserviceprovider;

•failureof,ordamagecausedby,anythirdpartyproducts,includingthosethatLenovomayprovideor

integrateintotheLenovoproductatyourrequest;

•anytechnicalorothersupport,suchasassistancewith“how-to”questionsandthoseregardingproduct

set-upandinstallation;

•productsorpartswithanalteredidentiﬁcationlabelorfromwhichtheidentiﬁcationlabelhasbeen

removed.

LimitationofLiability

LenovoisresponsibleforlossordamagetoyourproductonlywhileitisintheServiceProvider’spossession

orintransit,iftheServiceProviderisresponsibleforthetransportation.

NeitherLenovonortheServiceProviderisresponsibleforlossordisclosureofanydata,including

conﬁdentialinformation,proprietaryinformation,orpersonalinformation,containedinaproduct.

UNDERNOCIRCUMSTANCES,ANDNOTWITHSTANDINGTHEFAILUREOFESSENTIALPURPOSE
