thoroughly recommends reading these instructions before
using the Digital Caliper, even if you have used one before. Reading these
instructions carefully and understanding them fully will enable you to
perform tasks correctly.
FITTING/REPLACING BATTERY
1. Unscrew the back of the caliper with the screwdriver provided and insert the battery + side
facing up. Inserting the battery upside down may result in caliper failure.
2. If the display on the digital caliper does not show “0.00” after the battery change, remove
battery and insert again.
3. Your Kennedy digital caliper is supplied with one 3V lithium battery (CR2032).
4. Replacing the battery. When the digital display shows a battery symbol with a B in the
middle of the symbol, this means the battery is flat and needs replacing. Follow step 1
above on how to insert the battery.
PREPARATION
1. When using the caliper for the first time after purchase, wipe away the rust-preventive oil
on the caliper with a soft cloth.
2. Install the supplied battery, (see fitting/replacing battery section above).
3. Before measuring, wipe the sliding surfaces and measuring faces to remove dust and dirt.
4. Switch on the caliper by pressing the mode button. Check that the function keys and the
LCD are working properly.
5. Close the jaws and make sure that there is no light observed between the jaws, if the
caliper is not already reading “0.00mm” press the “set” button once.
6. Please note that the digital caliper must be switched off after use and should be kept in
its original box.
WARNING!
lDO NOT use an electric engraving pen on any part of the caliper as this
can cause damage to the caliper and its circuitry.
lIt is advised to remove the battery from the caliper when it is not in use
for long periods of time.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
1. Switch on the caliper by pressing the mode button (to switch off the caliper press and hold
down the set button).
2. Loosen the locking screw and move the slider to bring the outside faces together and set
zero by pressing the set button.
3. To select mm or inches, press the mode button three times, ‘unit’ will appear, press the
set button to toggle between mm and inches then press the mode button to select the
option you desire. Set zero by pressing the set button.
ABSOLUTE MEASUREMENT (ABS)
1. At the working mode, if ‘ABS’ appears at the bottom of the display screen the caliper will
automatically be in the absolute measurement mode. If ‘REL’ appears, press the mode
button twice, ‘ref’ will appear, press the set button to toggle between REL and ABS then
press the mode button to select the option you desire. In ABS mode zero setting will
not function. Set zero by pressing the set button.
RELATIVE MEASUREMENT
1. For taking repeated measurements relative to a proposed zero point.
2. Move the slider to the proposed zero point.
3. At the working mode, if ‘REL’ appears at the bottom of the display screen the caliper will
automatically be in the incremental measurement mode. If ‘ABS’ appears, press the mode
button twice, ‘ref’ will appear, press the set button to toggle between ABS and REL then
press the mode button to select the option you desire. Set zero by pressing the set button.
4. Measurements will now read ± from the chosen relative zero point.
TAKING MEASUREMENTS
External Dimensions
Put the workpiece as close to the reference
surface as possible, and have the measuring
faces firmly in contact with the workpiece
without excessive force.
Depth Measurement
For depth measurement, set the depth bar
perpendicular to the measured surfaces.
Internal Dimensions
For inside measurement, put the inside
jaws as deep as possible and have the
measuring faces firmly in contact with the
workpiece without excessive force.
Step Measurement
For step measurement, have the
step-measuring-faces firmly in contact
with the workpiece.
