DVD-R Media – Bit Rates in Megabytes
Pioneer New Media Technologies, Inc., Engineering Support (310) 952-2111
The maximum DVD-R playback bit rate in megabytes per second depends upon the drive speed.
The following examples provide bit rates for 10X and 16X DVD-ROM drives.
•
DVD-114 (10X DVD-ROM) = 13.5 MB/s
•
DVD-115 (16X DVD-ROM) = 21.6 MB/s
When recording to or playing back a DVD-R disc, the bit rate may fluctuate. One or more of the
following factors can cause bit rate changes.
•
Available resources
•
System configuration
•
Where the disc is being read (inner or outer radius)
data rate is faster towards the outer radius of a disc and slower towards the inner radius
