Installation of new door slab on
existing frame
The following instruction will be helpful for everyone decided to install the door slab on existing frame.
Please allow enough time for proper installation and measure the jamb, install the slab, and ensure its
proper operation.
Tools and materials recommended for installation process
• Safety glasses
Screwdrivers
Pencil
Chisel or router
Drill with bits and hole saws
Tape measure
Hammer
Speedsquare or
framing square
Your old door
Installation:
Step 1
Open a package and inspect your door on visual damages or scratches. If there are any damages
please do not install the door and contact the supplier.
Step 2
Make sure that the door properly fits the jamb. Depending on the flooring, make sure that there is
at least 1/4 of an inch clearance between door and floor. It is not recommended to cut/trim the
door.
Installation (continue):
Step 3
A) Align your old door slab with the new one as it is shown on the picture below
then using a speed square or framing square transit the exact shape of the hinge to make a cut on
the new slab. Make sure the shapes will be transited with exactly same pattern.
B) Once the shapes are transferred, you’ll need to mark the exact location of how far the hinge will
rest on the edge of the new door. Using a pencil, trace around the hinge you will use on the door
edge
C) Using a chisel and a hammer, remove wood to make the hinge flush with the door edge.
Lock bore preparation*
* you can use your old door to transfer the shapes and sizes
for bore and backset within the hinges preparation section
or, follow the guide below:
1) Measure 36” from the bottom of the door and put the mark with
pencil.
2) Using a square (speed square), measure 2-3/8” from the edge of
the door and put the mark according to 36” height mark
with a pencil for lock bore backset pilot hole.
Always check the lock’s manufacturer
instruction. Dimensions for lock bore backset can vary.
3) Using a square (speed square) put the mark in the
middle of the doors edge for latch hole according to measurements.
(36” from the bottom and equal measurement from each side of the door)
4) Use 1-inch hole saw to bore latch hole in door edge
5) Bore the doorknob hole through the face of door using a 2 1/8-inch
hole saw; drill halfway through from each side.
6) Set latch into hole and mark its outline on the doors edge:
7) Use hammer and chisel to cut a shallow mortise for the latch:
8) Wipe the dust with clean cloth.
After this step, follow your lockset manufacturers installation instruction
to finish installation of your new lockset.
