2. SPECIFIC SAFETY RULES
BEFORE USING THE MACHINE:
1. The following points need to be checked:
- do the voltage of the machine correspond to
the mains voltage (appliances for a mains volta-
ge of 230 V~ can be connected to a mains volta-
ge of 220 V~ without any problems);
- an earthed mains connection needs always to
be used;
- are the mains lead and the mains plug in a good
condition: solid, without any loose ends or
damage;
2. The machine must stand firm on a flat, solid surface.
3. Never press against the sides of the blade because
it can break.
4. Watch out while sawing wood. Nails and knots can
make the wood strike back from the machine
5. Never let the machine work unattended.
6. The teeth of the blade must point downward.
WHILE USING THE MACHINE:
1. Do not use extension cables which are too long.
2. Rests of wood may never be taken away by hand whi-
le the machine is running. First turn the machine off.
3. The sawblade is the most important piece in the
saw machine. Make sure it has no ripped of teeth,
and it is crackfree.
IMMEDIATELY SWITCH OFF THE MACHI-
NE IN CASE OF:
1. defective mains plug, mains line or damage to the
mains line;
2. defective switch;
3. smoke or bad smell caused by scorched insulation.
3. GUARANTEE PROVISIONS
1. Ferm guarantees all material and construction
defects for a period of 24 MONTHS after pur-
chase. Other claims in respect of damage, of wha-
tever nature, direct or indirect, to persons and/or
materials are excluded.

instance. Usually he will be able to solve the pro-
blem or repair the defect.
3. If parts are repaired or replaced within the warranty
period, this does not extend the warranty period.
4. Fair wear and tear is not covered by this warranty.
For example motors, switches or bulbs.
5. THIS WARRANTY APPLIES ONLY:
- if you can submit proof of the date of purchase,
i.e. a RECEIPT stating the date of purchase;
- if you have completed and signed the enclosed
warranty card (in the back of this manual);
- if no repairs or alterations have been made to
the machine by third parties, nor other than
the original parts have been fitted;
- if the machine was used in accordance with the
instructions;
- if we cannot plead force majeure.
6. The warranty provisions apply in combination
with our terms of delivery and sale.
7. All cost of transport of the machine to be repaired
ar at buyer’s expense. Badly packed articles are
not accepted.
4. ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
Recycling raw materials is preferable to dumping them
as waste. To prevent the machine from being damaged
during transport its packing must be strong. Insofar as
possible the packing consists of recyclable materials
such as paper, cardboard and wood.
5. FERM'S AFTER SALES SERVICE
Save the original packing. Should you ever have to
move the machine there is less risk of damage in the
original packing. In the case of a warranty claim the

INSTALLING THE BLADE
Always remember to disconnect the machi-
ne from the power source to avoid injury
before installing the blade.
1. Select the correct blade according to the wood
material to be cut.
2. Loosen the blade tension knob.
3. To install the blade, insert the blade with the teeth
pointing downward through the table slot until the
blade pin (or saw-blade adaptor) can be hooked by
the bottom blade holder.
4. Pull upward so that the blade pin (or saw-blade
adaptor) can be hooked by the top blade holder.
5. Tighten the blade tension knob until the proper
tension is obtained.
6. Remove all tools or objects from the blade area.
7. Turn the power on and allow the blade to run, before
actual cutting operation is performed. Check that the
blade runs smoothly.
With type FZ-40/16 two saw blade adaptors are
supplied. These saw-blade adaptors can be used
for saw blades intended for fretsaws.
- Fix the saw blade adaptors to the saw blade (inten-
ded for fretsaw). Be sure that the internal wrench
bolts are screwed both the same amount, so that
the saw blade will not be installed wrong and
would result in a not so accurate sawing job.
- Place the whole thing in blade holder, see “Instal-
ling the blade”.
NOTE: In the event of blade breakage, replacement
should be performed as instructed above.
7. TILTING TABLE
The table on this scroll saw may be tilted 45° maxi-
mum. To tilt the table, follow these instructions:
1. Loosen the table tilt fixing lever located under the
table;
2. Tilt the table with your hand to the angle required;
3. A graduated scale is provided for indicating the
table angle degree;
4. Tighten the table tilt locking lever.
8. BASIC OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
1. The scroll sawblade cuts on its downward stroke.
2. Feed the workpiece slowly with a minimum of
pressure and smoothly towards the sawblade.
3. Care should be taken to hold the workpiece firmly
against the table with your hands and feed the
workpiece slowly to prevent the blade from ben-
ding or twisting.
4. Always keep the blade sharp for best cutting result.
5. Use correct blade size. Selection of blade depends
on the wood material and the curve to be cut. In
general, the thinner and harde the wood material,
the finer the blade teeth. Narrow blades should be
selected for cutting sharp curves.
9. REMOVING THE BLADE
Always remember to disconnect the machine
from the power source to avoid injury before
removing the blade.
1. Loosen the blade tension knob until the spring is
completely released.
2. Slightly depress the top blade holder and slightly
lift the blade upward to facilitate removing the bla-
de from the holder.
3. Slightly lower and move the blade forward to free
it from the bottom blade holder.
4. Remove the blade by pulling it upward.
10. MAINTENANCE
While maintaining and cleaning the sawma-
chine pull the plug from the mainssocket.
Never use water or other agressive liquids whi-
le cleaning electrical parts of the machine.
PERIODIC MAINTENANCE OF THE MACHINE
WILL PREVENT UNNECESSARY PROBLEMS!
- Keep the sawingtable clean to maintain accuracy
while sawing.
- Keep the outside of the machine clean so all parts can
move freely and without any wear to all the parts.
11. MALFUNCTIONS
Below we have listed a number of possible causes and
corresponding solutions in case the machine does not
function as it should:
1. The engine overheats above 70° Celsius.
The engine is overloaded:
- Start to slow down the sawing so the engine can cool off.
The engine has a defect:
- Contact your local Ferm dealer to have the tool
inspected and/or repaired.
2. The machine stops immediately after swit-
ching on.
Interruption in the electric circuit:
- Check the circuit (of the mains voltage).
Defective switch:
- Contact your local Ferm dealer to have the tool
