SMART Learning Suite 18
Installation Guide for Mac
Introduction
This guide is intended for teachers, IT administrators and others who are responsible for installing
software on multiple computers. This guide explains how to install the SMART software using the
Education Learning Suite Installer.
Computer requirements
l Inte Core 2 Duo processor or better
l 2 GB of RAM
l 2.3 GB free hard disk space
l OSX 10.11 (El Capitan), macOS 10.12 (Sierra), macOS 10.13 (High Sierra) operating system
software
l Safari Internet browser 8 or later
l Internet access to download SMART software
Getting installation and configuration files
To get started, download the SMART Learning Suite and SMART Install Manager packages. These
packages are required to configure and deploy the SMART Learning Suite software, and can be
downloaded online from the SMART website.
Using the SMART website
Download SMART Learning Suite and SMART Install Manager from the SMART website.
Follow the steps below to download installer from the website.

To download SMART Learning Suite and SMART Install Manager from the SMART website
1. Go to https://education.smarttech.com/en/products/notebook/download#admin.
2. Select SMART Notebook 18 from Select your version.
3. Select SMART Install Managerfrom Select install package.
4. Enter your information into the following fields:
a. First Name
b. Last Name
c. Job Title
d. Email
e. Country
5. Select the service agreement check box.
6. Select Mac under Change operating system.
7. Click DOWNLOAD -MAC.
8. Save the smart_install_manager.dmg file to your computer.
9. Double-click the smart_install_manager.dmg file to mount the disk image.
The SMART Install Manager installation wizard appears.
10. Follow the on-screen instructions.
Configure SMART Learning Suite for deployment
Use the SMART Install Manager to configure the SMART Learning Suite Installer.

To open an installation package
1. Launch the SMART Install Manager.
2. Drag the SMART Learning Suite Installer DMG file into the SMART Install Manager window.
You can also browse for installation packages on your computer and select Open.
Configuring products and options for installation
After you open an installation package, select the products and options from the control panel.
IMPORTANT
The following options to install the software using the default settings.
To select products and options
1. Select Product Selection from the General Options menu.
2. In the Select the products you want to install box, ensure the following products are selected:

SMART Product Drivers
o
SMART Ink
o
SMART Notebook software

3. Read the note under the SMART response 2 software.
IMPORTANT
If SMART Response is already installed, it will be updated to the new SMART response 2
assessment tool. Visit http://smarttech.com/response-faq to learn more.
4. Enter your product key in the Product key field.
To publish the configuration
1. Select File > Publish.
The published output will be a new PKG file, which deploys only in Silent Mode.
2. To save configuration, select File > Save.
Deployment of SMART Education Software
Two common methods for deploying software installation packages includes:
l Using Apple Remote Desktop software to manage your software installations.
l Use Terminal to install customized software on each computer.

To deploy SMART software using Apple Remote Desktop software
1. Copy the PKG file that you created with SMART Install Manager to a server that is accessible
to all the computers you want to install the software on.
2. Using Apple Remote Desktop software on the server, select the computers that you want to
update.
3. Select Install Packages.
A dialog box appears.
4. Drag the PKG file to the Packages box in the dialog box.
5. Click Install.
The software installs on the selected computers.
To deploy SMART software using Terminal
1. In Finder, browse to Applications/Utilities, and then double-click Terminal.
The Terminal window appears.
2. Type the following command:
sudo installer -target / -pkg "[Path]/[File name].pkg"

[Path] is the path to the PKG file.
o
[File name] is the name of the PKG file.
3. Click Return.
4. Type your password, and then click Return.
TIP
If your computer stops responding after the performing procedure above, restart your computer
