Adding a Cisco SPA 500S Sidecar
Follow the instructions below to connect a Cisco SPA 500S Sidecar to an existing Cisco
SPA 500 Series Telephone.
Connecting a Sidecar to an Existing Cisco Telephone
The following procedure describes how to attach a Cisco SPA 500S Sidecar
(referred to as “Sidecar” below) to a Cisco SPA 500 Series Telephone (referred
to as “Telephone” below).
Unplug the Ethernet cord from the “SW port on the back of the Telephone
Remove the desktop phone stand
Turn both the Telephone and the Sidecar face down (see below)
Align the IP phone screw hole in the Telephone with one of the holes on the attachment arm and insert the pegs into
the peg holes
Holding the attachment arm in place, place an attachment arm screw into the IP phone screw hole and secure the
attachment arm to the Telephone
Align the right screw hole in the Sidecar with the unused hole on the attachment arm and insert the pegs into the peg
holes on the Sidecar
Using an attachment arm screw, secure the attachment arm to the Sidecar

Locate the AUX IN port on the back of the Sidecar. Connect one end of the auxiliary cable to this port.
Note: Do not plug a telephone line cord into the AUX port. Use only the auxiliary cable provided with the Sidecar.
Locate the AUX port on the back of the Telephone. Connect the other end of the auxiliary cable to this port. The
Sidecar is powered by the auxiliary cable with the Telephone and no additional power source is required.
Route the auxiliary cable into the cable slot of the Sidecar
To attach a second Sidecar (optional a maximum of two Sidecars can be connected to a Cisco Telephone): Insert the
attachment arm into the peg holes of the first and second Sidecar and use the attachment arm screws to secure it in
place. Plug the auxiliary cable into the AUX OUT port of the first Sidecar and the AUX IN port of the second Sidecar.
Route the auxiliary cable into the cable slot.

Attach the appropriate desktop stand to each unit.
Complete Sidecar Setup
Plug the Ethernet cord into the “SW” port on the back of the Telephone. The telephone may take a few minutes to boot up
with the sidecar button configuration (preconfigured by POPP). Once the telephone reboot has completed, you can start
using your new Sidecar(s).
