Setting Up The Printer
1. Place the printer on a flat, secure surface.
2. Make sure the printers power is off.
3. Plug the provided power cord into the AC power cord socket at the rear of the
printer. Plug the power cord into a properly grounded power outlet.
4. Do not plug the printer into the PC at this time unless you are using the printers
Ethernet connection for network printing applications.
5. Load ribbon and labels according to the following instructions.
Ribbon Installation
4. Wrap the ribbon onto
the ribbon rewind spindle.
Keep the ribbon flat and
without wrinkles. Wind
the ribbon clockwise 3-5
rotations onto the ribbon
rewind spindle until it's
smooth and there is
tension on the ribbon.
5. Close the print head
mechanism making sure
the latches are engaged
properly. You will hear the
printhead click when
locked in place. You will
need to apply some
downward pressure to lock
the printhead mechanism.

Ribbon Removal
1. Break the ribbon between the ribbon guide plate and the ribbon rewind spindle.
2. Push the ribbon release button to release the ribbon on the ribbon rewind spindle.
3. Slide of the ribbon from the ribbon rewind spindle and discard.

sensor slot and then
through the open space
in between the print
head and platen.
Media Installation
1. Lift open the
printer's Media Door.
Push the print head
release lever to open
the print head
mechanism
2. Move the label roll
guard horizontally to
the end of label spindle
then flip down the
label roll guard.
3. Place the roll of media
on the label supply
spindle. Push the label roll
until it is flush with the
printer side wall. Flip up
the label roll guard. Move
the label roll guard
horizontally to gently fit
the width of label roll.
4. Pull the label rolls leading edge forward over the media guide bar, under the damper,
through the media sensor placing the label’s leading edge onto the platen roller.
5. Adjust the label guide to fit the width of the label.
6. Close the print head mechanism making sure the latches are engaged properly.
You will hear the printhead click when locked in place. You will need to apply
some downward pressure to lock the printhead mechanism.

Performing Media Calibration
Once you have loaded the ribbon and labels as shown above it will be necessary to
perform a media calibration. The media calibration allows the printer to determine what
size label has been loaded and if a ribbon is being used. Failure to calibrate the printer
may cause errors such as NO PAPER, PAPER JAM & NO RIBBON to be shown on the
printers LCD display. Follow the steps below to perform a media calibration.
1. Make sure the ribbon and label media are installed properly as described above.
2. With the printer power off press and hold the printer’s PAUSE button.
3. Power the printer on. Do not release the PAUSE button until the printer’s LCD
display reads Calibrating.
4. The Printer will advance several labels, feeding the last label to the label
perforation. Once completed the printer’s LCD display will read Ready.
5. Should there be any errors on the LCD display please see the troubleshooting
section of the users guide.
Printer Self-Test
To verify the printer is functioning correctly it is best to print a printer self-test. The
self-test can be performed after the media calibration is complete and before installing
the printer on your host PC. Follow the steps below to perform a self-test.
1. Install ribbon and label media and successfully perform media calibration.
2. Press the MENU button on the printer’s front panel.
3. Press the DOWN button until Diagnostics is highlighted.
4. Press the SELECT button.
5. Print Config. will now be highlighted, press SELECT. The printer will now print a
self-test label.
6. Press the DOWN button until exit is highlighted once highlighted press the
SELECT button.
7. Press the DOWN button until exit is highlighted once highlighted press the
SELECT button. The printer’s LCD display should now read Ready.
8. Please note that the self-test is pre-formatted to print on a 4 inch wide label.
When using a smaller label some self-test information may run off the side of the
label and not print.
Your Cub CB-824 is now ready to be installed on your host PC. Please see the Installing
Windows Print Driver guide to complete printer installation on your host PC. This guide
will also walk you through installing the provided Seagull Scientific BarTender UltraLite
label creation software.

Optional Network Printing
The following steps are for network printing applications only. When connecting your
printer to the host PC via USB, parallel or RS-232C interfaces these steps do not apply.
Viewing Network Status
To view the current network settings follow the steps below.
1. Press the MENU button on the printer’s front panel.
2. Setup will now be highlighted press the printer’s SELECT button.
3. Press the printer’s DOWN button until Ethernet is highlighted, once highlighted
press the printer’s SELECT button.
4. Status will now be highlighted press the printer’s SELECT button to view the
printer’s Ethernet status.
5. IP Address will now be highlighted press the printer’s SELECT button to view the
printer’s current IP Address, Subnet Mask and Gateway. To view the printer’s
network card MAC Address press the printer’s DOWN button, once MAC Address
is highlighted press the printer’s SELECT button.
6. To return to the previous menu press the printer’s SELECT button.
Configure: (DHCP / Static IP)
1. Follow steps 1-3 from viewing network status (above).
2. Status will now be highlighted press the printer’s DOWN button until Configure is
highlighted, once highlighted press the printer’s SELECT button.
3. The printer will now display DHCP and Static IP. The printer’s default method for
obtaining an IP address is DHCP. The printer will automatically use DHCP upon
power up to obtain an IP address. To turn DHCP off press the printer’s SELECT
button while DHCP is highlighted. Press the printer’s MENU button, the printer
will reboot and the DHCP method will be disabled.
4. To set the printer’s Static IP address press the printer’s DOWN button to highlight
Static IP. Once Static IP is highlighted press the printer’s SELECT button. You
can now enter the printer’s IP Address, Subnet Mask & Gateway. To enter the
value press the printer’s UP button. To advance to the next number press the
printer’s DOWN button. Once the value is entered press the printer’s SELECT
button to advance to the next network setting. After all three values have been
entered press the printer’s SELECT button. The printer will reboot and your
settings will be saved.
