When using electrical products, basic precautions should always be followed including:

5. Cleaning Unplug this product from the wall outlet before cleaning. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners.
Use a damp cloth for cleaning.
6. Attachments Do not use attachments not recommended by the product manufacturer as they may be hazardous.
7. Water and Moisture Do not use this product near water‐for example, near a bath tub, wash bowl, kitchen sink, or
laundry tub , in a wet basement, or near a swimming pool, etc.
Accessories Do not place this product on an unstable surface. The product may fall, causing serious injury to a child
or adult and serious damage to the product. Use only with a stand, bracket, or table recommended by the manufacturer,
or sold with the product. Any mounting of the product should follow the manufacturer’s instructions, and should use a
mounting accessory recommended by the manufacturer.
9. Transporting This product should be moved with care to avoid damage or injury.
10. Ventilation Slots and openings in the cabinet are provided for ventilation, to ensure reliable operation of the
product and to protect it from overheating. These openings must not be blocked or covered. The openings should never
be blocked by placing the product on a bed, sofa, rug, or similar surface. This product should not be placed in a built‐in
installation such as a bookcase or rack unless proper ventilation is provided or the manufacturer’s instructions have been
adhered to.

11. Power Sources ‐ This product should be operated only from the type of power source indicated on the marking label. If
you are not sure of the type of power supply to your home, consult your product dealer or local power company. For
products intended to operate from battery power, or other sources, refer to the operation instructions.
12. AC Plug – The AC plug is used as the disconnect device. This disconnect device should remain readily accessible.
13. Power Cord Protection ‐ Power‐supply cords should be routed so that they are not likely to be trapped in any way.
14. Lightning ‐ For added protection for this product during a lightning storm, or when it is left unattended and unused for\
long periods of time, unplug it from the wall outlet and disconnect the USB cable. This will prevent damage to the product
due to lightning and power‐line surges.
15. Overloading ‐ Do not overload wall outlets, extension cords, or integral convenience receptacles as this can result in a
risk of fire or electric shock.
16. Object and Liquid Entry ‐ Never push objects of any kind into this product through openings as they may touch
dangerous voltage points or short out parts that could result in a fire or electric shock. Never spill liquid of any kind on the
product. The apparatus should not be exposed to dripping or splashing, and no objects filled with liquids such as vases,
should be placed on the apparatus.
17. Servicing ‐ Do not attempt to service this product yourself as opening or removing covers may expose you to
dangerous voltage or other hazards. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.
18. Damage Requiring Service ‐ Unplug this product from the wall outlet and refer servicing to qualified service personnel
under the following conditions:
a. If the power‐supply cord or plug is damaged.
b. If liquid has spilled, or objects have fallen into the product.
c. If the product has been exposed to rain or water.
d. If the product does not operate normally by following the operating instructions. Adjust only those controls that are
covered by the operating instructions, as an improper adjustment of other controls may result in damage and will often
require extensive work by a qualified technician to restore the product to its normal operation.
e. If the product has been dropped or damaged in any way, and the product exhibits a distinct change in performance‐this
indicates a need for service.
19. Replacement Parts ‐ When replacement parts are required, be sure the service technician has used replacement parts
specified by the manufacturer or have the same characteristics as the original part. Unauthorized substitutions may result
in fire, electric shock, or other hazards.
20. Safety Check ‐ Upon completion of any service or repairs to this product, ask the service technician to perform safety
checks to determine that the product is in proper operating condition.
21. Heat ‐ The product should be situated away from heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves or other
products (including amplifiers) that produce heat. Important:
The normal function of the product may be disturbed by strong Electro‐Magnetic Interference. If so, simply reset the
product to resume normal operation by following the instruction manual. If the product does not resume normal
operation, try another location.

PRECAUTIONS
Safety Information
1. In order to shut off the power of this product completely, unplug the power cord from the wall outlet or remove the
connected USB cable. Be sure to unplug the unit and remove all power supply such as USB cable or dry batteries if you do
not intend to use it for an extended period of time, such as while on vacation.
2. Use of controls, adjustments and performance of procedures other than those specified herein may result in hazardous
radiation exposure.
3. If this product develops trouble, contact a qualified service center, and do not use the product in a defective state.
BEFORE USE
1. Remove all packaging materials from unit. Check to make sure that you have removed all included components before
discarding the box and packing.
2. Choose unit installation location carefully. Avoid placing it in direct sunlight or close to a source of heat. Also avoid
locations subject to vibrations and excessive dust, cold or moisture. Keep away from sources that hum, such as
transformers or motors.
3. Do not open the cabinet as this might result in damage to the circuitry or electrical shock. If a foreign object should get
into the set, contact your dealer.
4. When removing the power plug from the wall outlet, always pull directly on the plug, never pull the cord.
5. Do not attempt to clean the unit with chemical solvents as this might damage the finish. Use a clean, dry cloth.
6. Keep this manual in a safe place for future reference.

CASSETTE TAPE MAINTENANCE
TAPE HANDLING:
Do not store tapes in the following places:
1. On top of heaters, exposed to direct sunlight or in any other places with high temperatures.
2. Near speakers, on TV sets or amplifiers or where they would be exposed to strong magnetic fields.
3. Where humidity is high and in dirty, dusty places.
4. Avoid dropping or subjecting cassettes to excessive shocks.
5. As C‐120 tapes are physically weak and could become entangled in the transport mechanism, do not use them.
LOADING A CASSETTE TAPE:
1. Use your finger or a pencil to turn the cassette hub and take up any slack tape.
Note: Do not touch the tape because fingerprints attract dust and dirt easily.
2. Open the cassette door manually.
Note: Do not open the cassette holder during recording or playback.
3. Load the cassette tape with its open edge facing up.
4. Gently close the compartment door.
MAINTENANCE:
The heads and tape path should be cleaned and demagnetized periodically (Cleaning materials not included).
CLEANING TAPE PATH:
Apply head cleaning fluid to a cotton swab or soft cloth, and lightly rub the heads, capstan and all metal parts in the tape
path. Also clean the pinch roller using a cleaning fluid designed for rubber products.
DEMAGNETIZING HEADS:
Be sure that the power is off, and then demagnetize the heads using a demagnetizer (not included). For details of its use,
read its instructions.

BASIC OPERATION
POWER
1. When connected to a computer:
NOTE: Remove batteries while connected to computer.
USB powered: Connect one end of the USB cable (included) to the mini USB socket on the unit. Connect the other end into
the USB socket on your computer.
Adjust the VOLUME knob to your desired volume level.
2. When not connected to a computer:
A. Battery powered: Open the cassette door then open the battery door and place 2 ‘AA’ size batteries (not included) into
the battery compartment. Be sure to match the battery polarity shown on the compartment
(+/). Then close the battery door.
NOTE: To prevent possible damage to this unit:
*Load new batteries with their polarities (“+” and“‐”) aligned correctly.
*Do not apply heat to batteries, or internal short circuit may occur.
*If this unit is not to be used for a long period of time, remove all batteries and store them in a cool and dry place.
*Remove old, drained batteries immediately and dispose of them.

LISTENING TO A TAPE
1. Open the cassette door manually. Load a cassette tape with the open edge facing upward and gently close the cassette
door.
2. Select your playback output.
HEADPHONE: Turn VOLUME knob to lowest position. Then plug in your headphone. Readjust the VOLUME knob to a
comfortable sound level without any distortion. Once you’ve set your sound level, please leave the volume alone.
NOTE: Since hearing damage from loud noise is usually undetectable until it is too late, be sure the volume level is not too
high.
3. Press the PLAY button. At the end of the cassette tape, the unit will stop automatically.
4. Press the F.FWD button to advance the tape. When it reaches the end of tape, the unit will stop automatically.
5. Press STOP button to stop the tape playback or it will stop automatically when it reaches the end of tape playback.

RECORD TO PC
Audio from TAPE can be recorded on the computer.
To record from cassette tape, load a cassette tape into the unit and press PLAY button to start playback.
AUDACITY SOFTWARE
The Audacity folder contains the following software:

(4)Lame_Library_v3.98.2_for_Audacity_on_OSX------Lame for Macintosh
The software is compatible with Windows 98, 2000, ME, XP, VISTA, 7, 8 and MAC OS X
10.4 or later.
AUDACITY INSTALLATION AND USB CONNECTION
1. Connect the USB cable to the unit and into your computer. Connect the AC cord of unit. Turn on
the unit.
NOTE: You must plug in the cassette player before opening the Audacity software.

2. Please insert the Audacity software disk that comes with your unit. Go to My
Computer and double click the CD ROM Drive.

3. There are four files in the Audacity disk.
Audacity-macosx-ub-2.0.3: Select this for Macintosh system;
Audacity-win-2.0.3: Select this for Windows system;
Lame _enc.dll
Lame_Library_v3.98.2_for_Audacity_on_OSX
(See MAC instructions beginning on Pg.24)
Double click the ‘audacity-win-2.0.3.exe to install the Audacity software.
Click the dropdown arrow to select a setup language then click OK.
INSTALLING THE AUDACITY SOFTWARE
Audacity 2.0.3.exe setup wizard appears on the screen. Click on Next button.
Follow directions on the screen.

c) Continue to click on Next.
d) Normally most people will install programs in C disk, click on Next.
If you want to change the directory, click Browse, select a setup directory and click on Next.
e) Continue to click on Next.
Click Create a Desktop icon

Click on Install icon
Click on Next icon

f) Click on Finish to complete the installation.
NOTE: You do not need to install the program with every use.
g) The program will be opened if the checkbox beside the “Launch
Audacity” is selected. Or you can open Audacity software and start recording your files.
Or, if you cannot install the Audacity software from the disc, you may install it from this link:

On the right side click on "Audacity 2.0.3 installer (.exe file, 20.3 MB, including help files)
for Windows 2000/XP/Vista/Windows 7/Windows 8". Click on Save or click on the left side. If this does not work,
click this link then click on Save. Select Desktop then click Save again. It will save it in your computer's Desktop.
Double click on Audacity icon then click on Run. Click OK and follow the directions on the screen to set it up.

3. A few settings will be required before you download the music.
a) Click ‘Edit’ and select ‘Preferences’.
b) In the pop‐out window of the Audacity Preferences, you will see on the right side the tabs of Devices, Playback,
Recording, Quality, Interface, Tracks, Import/Export, Projects, Libraries, Spectrograms, Directories, Warnings, Effects,
Keyboard and Mouse are listed on the left side of the window as in the picture below.

c) Click ‘Devices’ on the left side, then the detailed contents of the Devices will show on the right hand side of
Interface.
Click the arrow on "Device" below Playback and choose first choice Primary sound driver Or "Realtek HD Audio
Output” or “Speaker (High Definition Audio Device)”. Click the arrow on “Device” below “Recording” and choose
“USB Audio CODEC”, “Microphone (USB Audio Controller)” or “Microphone array to USB PNP Audio
device/controller”.
Click on “Channels” to select “2 (Stereo)”.
d) Click ‘Recording’ on the left side, you will see the detailed contents on the right side.
Click the checkbox beside 'Software Playthrough: Listen while recording or monitoring new track’. See picture below.
e) Before exporting an MP3 file, you need to Open “lame_enc.dll” first. Make sure the Audacity driver disc is inside your
computer. Click ‘Libraries’ on the left side, then in ‘MP3 Export Library’ interface, click ‘MP3 Library “Locate” button to find
‘lame_enc.dll’.

Click ‘Browse’ button to open ‘lame_enc.dll’. Click on Computer/My Computer and locate Audacity 2.0.3, CD Rom Audacity
2.0.3 or DVDR Audacity 2.0.3. Double click on it.
Double click on “Audacity_for_ Win’s folder” and you will see the lame_enc.dll. Left click on it to highlight it then
Click on ‘Open’ and the box will disappear. Click ‘OK’ on Locate Lame small box, then click ok on the Preferences’ box. Now
you can Record, Export and Save your music.

f) If the ‘lame_enc.dll’ software does not open from the disc, you must download the ‘lame’ software from website.
Click ‘Download’ then a website will be opened automatically.
Below the chapter Windows, click ‘download page’ in the first point. Then another page will be browsed as per below.
Then scroll down the webpage.
The Audacity LAME is free, so you can click ‘libmp3lame-win-3.98.2.zip ’ under ZIP OPTION to download.
Click Save, select the Folder you want to save it in, then click Save again to save it. Close the Webpage, then click OK to
close the Audacity preference box. Minimize Audacity interface, then open the Folder where you saved the
libmp3lame‐win‐3.98.2.. Double click it, then double click on it again to open. Now left click on lame_enc.dll. Hold and
drag it to your Desktop.

NOTES:
Once you move it to the Desktop you do not need to do this again.
After opening Lame_enc.dll the first time it may not be necessary to open lame_enc.dll the next time you record.
Go Back to the Audacity and click on Edit, then Preferences. Click on Libraries in MP3 library. Click on Locate, then click
on ‘Browse’. Click on Desktop, then click on Lame_enc.dll to highlight it. Then click Open.
Click on OK on locate Lame box. Click OK on Audacity Preferences to close and to complete your settings. Now you can
record, Export and save your favorite music.
g) For detailed information about how to run this program, please click ‘Help’ and click ‘Manual (in web browser)’.

RECORDING OPERATIONS
Button Controls
From left to right these button controls are:
Output and input monitors

1 . Set the aux source (phonograph or auxiliary input) to play, then press Record
button on Audacity to record.
NOTE: During recording make sure the input level indicator does not exceed “0”.
If you find the recording distorted (for example, the input level indicator
exceeds “0” during recording, or the waveform is clipped, or the playback quality of the recording is distorted) you
can adjust the sound level of the
original music by setting the recording level to 2‐6 (see the section of
ADJUSTMENT FOR WINDOWS 7 AND SOME VISTA SYSTEMS ONLY).

2. Press “pause” in between each song. Only press the “stop” button when all
desired songs have been recorded.
TIPS: If you press the “stop” button by accident, you can click “Transport” and
click “Append Record”. Then you can continue to record in the same track.
For example, the “stop” button has been pressed by accident at the end of the 1st song. Do not click anything in
Audacity and get another song prepared, then click “Transport” tab and select “Append Record” (refer to the picture
above). Soon the 2nd song will continue to record on the same track at the end of the 1
st
song.
3. Before exporting press “play” button to play the recording, press Stop button, then press “Skip to Start” button to
go to the beginning of the recording.
4. Select a section you want to export by moving the cursor to the beginning of the song and left clicking. Then hold
and drag the cursor. Release the cursor when your selected section is highlighted.
