Remote Control
Reference Guide
The VR-5 supports remote control via MIDI. This document describes settings for remote control.
* If the system software version of your VR-5 is 1.0, it does not support remote control via V-LINK. The V-LINK
indicator does not light. Remote control via V-LINK will be supported in later versions.

MIDI Setup Menu
You can remotely control the VR-5 using an external MIDI controller, such as MIDI keyboard or MIDI sequencer.
MIDI setup of the VR-5 is performed on SYSTEM menu. The list below shows the items in the MIDI SETUP menu.

If the system software version of your VR-5 is 1.0, it supports remote control of Standard Mode only. Other modes will be supported in later
versions.
COMMON SETUP
You can set parameters common for all modes here.
MIDI OUT This toggles the MIDI OUT port to be either MIDI OUT or MIDI THRU.
Tx CHANNEL This selects which MIDI channel to be used to transmit MIDI messages from the MIDI OUT port.
STANDARD SETUP
You can set parameters for Standard Mode remote control here.
Rx CHANNEL This sets Rx channel of MIDI messages.
VIDEO SEL TYPE This selects the channel switching mode and selecting mode of playback file. you can select one out of followings.
VLINK:
Switch using bank select (BS) and program change (PC). Corresponding commands are as below.

Receiving and Transmitting Remote Control Messages
For corresponding MIDI messages, refer to “MIDI Implementations” (p. 4)
Receiving Remote Control Messages
When receiving remote control messages, set as below.
MIDI OUT in COMMON SETUP Set this to [THRU] when you daisy chain multiple VR-5 units.
Rx CHANNEL in STANDARD SETUP Set this to match the channel of MIDI master device.
You can remote control the following parameters from an external device.
Volume of MIC/LINE 1 and 2
Volume of audio channels
Selection of a video channel
Turning on/off of AUDIO FOLLOW
Volume of final output
Selection of a sub-video channel
Selection of a transition effect
Adjusting the transition time
Adjusting the key level
Turning on/off of key composition
Turning on/off the display of PC input image
Turning on/off the output of user logo
Output fade

Transmitting the Remote Control Signal to an External MIDI Device
When transmitting remote control messages to an external MIDI device, set as below.
MIDI OUT Set this to [OUT].
Tx CHANNEL Select a MIDI transmit channel that matches the MIDI channel your external MIDI device expects.
You can transmit MIDI messages corresponding to the following operations on VR-5.
Volume of MIC/LINE 1 and 2
Volume of audio channels
Selection of a video channel
Turning on/off of AUDIO FOLLOW
Volume of final output
Selection of a sub-video channel
Selection of a transition effect
Adjusting the transition time
