Installation Instructions & Applications for Smooth Merchant & Black Annealed Wire
Smooth Merchant Wire is ideal for all-purpose tying around the farm and the home. It is
a multi-use, single strand wire, ideal for tying, fastening, hanging, and bundling. Use it in
the shed, shop, home, and in farm applications. Smooth Merchant Wire is designed to
be softer than normal wire to allow for ease of use in hand tying applications and is Class
3 Galvanized for high resistance to corrosion and rust. Smooth Merchant wire is available
in gages from 9 to 16, and in 10 pound and 100 pound coils. The larger the gage, the
thinner the wire.
Annealing is a process used to return to the wire its ductility, which it had lost during
drawing. In agriculture annealed wire is used for bailing hay or for fencing projects. Black
Annealed Wire is therefore more flexible than Smooth Merchant Wire. Black Annealed
Wire is available in gages from 9 to 16, and in 10 pound and 100 pound coils.

Smooth Merchant wire is used for a variety of tying applications such bundles of wood,
hay bales, hanging tools, and other handy work around the farm. The heavier gauge
