BATTERY INFORMATION

DC753EN
The Collins Pocket Spellchecker DC753EN operates with a
CR2032 battery, 3V. (included).
1. To replace the battery, unscrew the screw that holds the
battery compartment located at the back of the device.
2. Remove the old battery and insert the new battery inside
ensuring that the polarity is correct.
3. Close the compartment and screw it back on.
Press and adjust the screen contrast if necessary.
Note : Once the battery is removed, all stored data and
settings will be permanently deleted.
Non-rechargeable batteries are not to be recharged.
Rechargeable batteries are to be removed from the product
before being charged. Rechargeable batteries are only to be
charged under adult supervision. Different types of batteries or
new and used batteries are not to be mixed. Only batteries of
the same or equivalent type as recommended are to be used.
Batteries are to be inserted with the correct polarity. Exhausted
batteries are to be removed from the product. The supply
terminals are not to be short circuited.
Do not throw batteries into a re. Remove the batteries if you
are not going to use the product for a long period of time.
Batteries shall not be exposed to excessive heat such as
sunshine, re or the like.
WARNING : Signicant interference electromagnetic or
electrostatic discharge may cause malfunction or loss of
data. If the device does not work properly, reset the unit or
remove and replace the battery.
WARNING : All packaging materials, such as tape, plastic
sheets, strings and labels are not part of the product and
must be discarded.

PRESENTATION
On / off
When using the spellchecker for the rst time, be sure
to remove the plastic battery protection at the back of the
device.
1. Press to switch on.
2. Press again to turn it off.
Note : The device switches off automatically after 5 minutes
of inactivity.
Note : If the device does not turn on, if it does not respond
correctly or if the screen display is not smooth, you can reset
the device. Locate the RESET button on the back of the
device and use a paperclip or other sharp object to press
it gently.
WARNING ! All data and parameters saved will be permanently
deleted.
To adjust the brightness of the screen:
1. Press the Menu key .
2. Select “Contrast screen” .
3. Press ENTER to conrm.
4. Use the arrows or to decrease or increase
the contrast.
5. Press ENTER to conrm.
To return to spellchecker mode press the spell key .
Note: If the screen contrast decreases sharply even after
having it set at the loudest, we advise you to change the
pile right away.
GETTING STARTED
LCD CONTRAST
The phonetic spelling correction helps you nd the right
spelling for a word, even if you misspell it.
1. To access to spellchecker mode, press the spell key .
The screen displays “Enter a word.”
2. Type the word with the spelling you want and press
ENTER to get its correction.
SPELLCHECKER
1. Once a word is displayed, a letter (S) will appear in front of
it if it has any synonyms.
2. Press to display the list of synonyms
3. If the list is long, use the arrows or to scroll
through the list.
4. You can save the synonym in your list. Press when
the word appears on the screen. Press “Y” to conrm.
5. Press the key to return to the spell checker mode.
SYNONYMS
CONJUGATION
1. Once a word is displayed, a letter (C) will appear in front of
it if it has any conjugation.
2. Press the key to display the singular. Press
key to display the plural.
3. If it’s a verb, press the key to display the conjugation.
Press key to browse through the available tenses.
4. Press the key to return to the spell checker mode.
The spellchecker contains 3 games: Hangman, Jumble and
Anagram.
Hangman
1. Press the key .
2. Press “ENTER” to select “Hangman”.
3. The screen asks you to indicate the length of the word
minimum 3 characteres and maximum 13 characteres
Press the keys or to increase or decrease the
number of letters.
4. Press ENTER to conrm.
5. The screen displays a series of question marks representing
the letters of the word to guess. The number 9 indicates the
number of guesses you can make.
6. Submit letters by pressing their key. If the letter is correct
it will be inserted at the right place in the word. If the letter
is not in the word, the screen will warn There is no ...
and the number of remaining guesses will decrease. If
you type a letter already given, the screen will display ...
already used without reducing the number of guesses.
7. If you guess the word before you use all of your chances,
you win. Otherwise, you lose and the device will display
the correct word.
8. At the end of each game, the spellchecker will ask you
Another Game ? . Press Y to replay or N to cancel and
exit the game.
Note: During the game, press to display the answer.
Word Jumble
1. Press the key .
2. Press the key and then “ENTER” to select “Word
Jumble”.
3. The screen asks you to indicate the length of the word to
nd, minimum 3 characters and maximum 13 characters
or to increase or decrease the number of
letters.
4. Press ENTER to conrm your choice and start the game.
5. The screen displays a series of letters in a random order
which are then replaced by question marks.
The number 9 indicates the number of guesses you have.
6. You have to put the letters in the right order to create a
word. Type the word you think matches with the letters and
press ENTER to nd out if this is correct.
Note: If you can’t remember the letters behind the question
marks, press to see them and then press to
return with the question marks display and continue the
game.
GAMES
Word Builder
Generate a list of words containing all letters you have typed,
or less (but only words with these letters and no more).
1. Press the key
.
2. Press and “ENTER” to select “Word builder”.
3. Type the letters for which you want to build a word and
press ENTER.
4. If there are multiple words, the spellchecker will display
the list. Use the arrow or to select the desired
word.
This function allows you to convert the most used international
currencies between them:
CURRENCY CONVERTER
• Swiss franc (CHF)
• British pound (GBP)
• United States dollar (USD)
• Canadian dollar (CAN)
Australian dollar (AUD)
• Japanese Yen (JPY)
• Chinese Yuan (CNY)
• Russian ruble (RUB)
• Indian Rupee (INR)
• Euro (EUR)
1. Press and select “Currency converter ”.
2. The default currency combination is EUR - GBP. If you
want to change the rst currency, press and
to scroll the list. To change the second currency, move the
arrow on the screen by pressing and after scroll the
list thanks to and . Press ENTER to start the
conversion.
3. The screen will display the rate between Currency 1 and
Currency 2 (Eg: 1EUR = 0.8953GBP). Press ENTER to
insert your amount.
4. To convert, tap your amount on the keyboard and press
ENTER. The screen displays the equivalent of currency 1
amount in currency 2. the equivalent in the other currency.
Note: the change of currency rate is only available for Euro
currency. To modify it, press ENTER when the arrow is next
to EUR. The screen displays “Euro rate list:”. Scroll the list
to have the other currency and press ENTER to write the
euro rate against this currency. Press ENTER to save the
rate.

1. You can access metric conversions by clicking and
selecting “ Unit converter .
2. The default combination of measurements is in – cm.
Press ENTER to convert: type the amount by pressing
the numbers. The conversion will be displayed instantly.
3. To reverse the conversion, press the key and type
your amount. To shift again, press the key .
4. To return to the units list, press the key .
5. Use the or arrows to scroll through the other
combinations and displayed on ENTER when the desired
combination is displayed.
UNIT CONVERTER
Do not expose the device to direct sunlight, extreme
temperatures, humidity and dust. Do not drop the device. Do
not use detergents, cleaning agents or solvents to clean the
device. Simply wipe the device with a soft, dry, clean cloth. Do
not twist the device. Do not attempt to open the casing.

SOLVERS
3. To correct a typo during typing, press to delete
the last character typed or the keys or
to position the cursor where you want to insert a new
character.
To erase everything press the key .
4. The spellchecker checks the spelling of the typed word. If
the word is correct, the screen directly displays “Correct
word ”.
5. If the word is misspelled, the spellchecker will suggest a
list of corrections. If the list is long, use arrows or
to scroll through words proposed.
6. Select the correct word from the list. You can add this word
to your list (press the key ), nd its synonym (press
the key ) and nd its conjugation (press the key ).
Solving crosswords
You can input [?] key to replace some letters and x your
crosswords puzzles.
Anagrams
Types letters and get all the corresponding anagrams.
1. Press the key
.
2. Press “ENTER” to select “Anagram”.
3. Type the letters for which you want to know the anagrams
and press ENTER.
4. If there are multiple anagrams, the spellchecker will
display the list. Use the arrows or to select the
desired anagram word.
● Press the button to return to the solver list.
Anagram
1. Press the key .
2. The screen display the list of games available. Press the
key and then “ENTER” to select “Anagram
3. The screen displays a series of letters. The number 9
indicates the number of guesses you can make.
4. You have to nd the anagram of these letters so nd a
word with all these letters and only these letters. Submit
letters by pressing their keys. if the word is not correct, the
screen will warn “Try again” and the number of remaining
guesses will decrease.

you win. Otherwise you lose and the device will display
the correct word.
6. At the end of each game, the spellchecker will ask you

CALCULATOR
1. Press the key to access the ancillary functions.
2. The screen displays the list of functions. Press on
to select Calculator.
3. Press ENTER.
4. The keys with numbers and functions are all accessible
to perform your operations. Press ENTER to have the
answer. The key allows you to erase the screen
content and start another operation.
5. To exit the calculator, press the key to return to the
spellchecker mode or any other button.
Note : To enter a negative number, rst type the amount,
then press the key to type the sign “-”.
