What Is Plug-Out?
Software synthesizers developed using ACB technology can be installed in the SYSTEM-8, and played and controlled using it. This capability is called
“plug-out.
Software synthesizers that support plug-out, including historical vintage Roland software synthesizers, can be played without using a computer.
Of course, you can also creative sounds intuitively by using the sliders and knobs of the SYSTEM-8.
The SYSTEM-8 lets you plug-out up to three software synthesizers to the MODEL [PLUG-OUT 1]–[PLUG-OUT 3] buttons.
About the MODEL [PLUG-OUT 1]–[PLUG-OUT 3] Buttons
5 When the unit is shipped from the factory, the Jupiter-8” (*1) software synthesizer is installed in the [PLUG-OUT 1].
5 A planned future free upgrade will install the JUNO-106” (*2) software synthesizer in the [PLUG-OUT 2] button.
5 A separately sold software synthesizer series can be plugged-out into the [PLUG-OUT 1]–[PLUG-OUT 3] buttons.
Even if you plug-out dierent software synthesizers to the [PLUG-OUT 1] and [PLUG-OUT 2] buttons, you can perform an operation on the
SYSTEM-8 to delete those software synthesizers and restore the unit to a state in which the Jupiter-8 and JUNO-106 are plugged-out.

Went on sale from Roland in 1981.
At a time when most synthesizers were monophonic, the appearance of an eight-note polyphonic model was revolutionary, making the Jupiter-8
legendary.
Its thick string ensemble sounds continue to be loved into the present day.
*2. What is the JUNO-106?
Went on sale from Roland in 1984.
One of the later models in the era of Roland analog synthesizers, it was an aordable introductory model at the time it went on sale, but became
popular for its tenacious sound and for the simplicity which made it easy to use.
Also popular was its built-in chorus eect that provided a distinctively beautiful spaciousness, and its sound continues to be used by prominent
musicians.
