Spinning Reel PF-100
ank you for selecting the Rock Island Equipment Co.
PowerFish’n Pro PF-100, a unique fresh water Shakespeare
reel tted with a powerful, quiet, electric motor. You can
hand crank the line or retrieve the line with the power
trigger. Your choice. It lets you sh longer without
getting tired and helps you enjoy shing even more.
Here’s how to use and take care of your new reel.
E-Z Cast Bail Lever
Your PowerFish’n reel is for close-to-the-
surface fishing. Use in a boat or on the shore
by the water. Do not use at great heights.

Your PowerFish’n reel uses 4 AA batteries. For standard batteries, always
use Alkaline which yield 16 – 20 hours of use. We recommend Ni-MH (Nickel
Metal Hydride) rechargeable batteries which provide higher torque and up
to 80 hours of use. Never use Lithium batteries as they may cause fire.
IMPORTANT: Always remove batteries after each use to avoid damage.
INSTALLING BATTERIES
1. Remove battery cover.
2. Insert batteries as shown
observing the polarities
indicated on the unit.
3. Replace battery cover.
4. Press power trigger to
ensure proper battery
placement.
NOTE: The selective anti-reverse switch on the bottom of the reel must
always be in the “on” position. The drag knob sets the spool tension, which
allows a fish to pull out the line under tension. Turning
the drag knob clockwise increases tension, while
rotating it counter clockwise decreases
tension. Set your reel with the drag
on the rod you will be using, with
line fully strung through rod guides.
Hold the rod at a 45° angle and have
someone pull on the line while you
decide on the proper dragline tension. Or
you can tie the line to a stationary object and
back up while holding the rod at the same
45° angle. Once you make the initial drag
setting, it can be easily adjusted if needed.
SETTING THE DRAG
1. Hold rod with reel under rod. Placing your thumb along the top
of the rod aids in casting and control accuracy.
2. Pick up the line with the tip of your index finger.
3. Open the bail wire using the E-Z Cast bail lever or with a light
downward movement until it is in the position shown for casting.
Because of the way the reel is motorized, the anti-reverse
switch must remain in the “on” position for proper operation.
4. Cast with the wrist motion shown. Let line slide off your finger
on forward cast to make your lure fly straight out.
5. Stop the flight of the lure by placing your finger on the spool
flange to drop the lure in the water with minimum disturbance.
Start the retrieve by pressing the power trigger or by cranking
the handle forward. The bail will automatically close and pick
up line. In retrieving, use the power trigger or crank the handle
at a speed desirable to bring the line in for the type of lure you
are using and for fishing conditions.

USING YOUR REEL
To activate your reel’s power assist feature, press the power trigger. As
long as the power trigger is being pressed, the reel will automatically
windup the line. When you release the power trigger, the reel will stop.
The fish can be played using the power trigger or by using the hand crank
to reel in the excess line when the fish comes towards you. The rod and
reel can be used normally up to the point that the fish is tired, played out
and ready to be reeled into the boat or shore. At this point, the easiest
thing to do is use the power trigger and let it bring in the tired fish.
POWER TRIGGER
CARE & LUBRICATION
Your new PowerFish’n reel is designed to provide years of dependable
service, but as with all precision instruments, some care is required.
Periodically use a light machine oil to lubricate the line roller, the main
shaft where it comes out of the reel, and all moving parts of the bail and
handle. Remove the spool and gently wash it with fresh water. Dry it
thoroughly with a soft cloth.
Take advantage of your electric reel to easily fill your spool with line. (1)
Open the bail and tie line to the spool. (2) Turn the reel handle forward
to close the bail. (3) Keep the line under tension with your fingers while
pressing the power trigger to spool the line onto the reel. IMPORTANT:
The line must come off its storage spool and onto the reel spool in the
same direction that the bail is turning in order to avoid line twist. Fill the
spool to about 90% full. Do not overfillthis will decrease the casting
efficiency of the reel. Use the line clip on the spool to hold the line neatly
in place once you have filled the spool with line.

There are many artificial baits on the market for game fish. They can be classified into specific types of
lures. The most popular baits are as follows:
Spinners - These baits are easily identified by a revolving, whirling blade. When drawn through the water,
these baits not only attract by motion, but send out vibrations. Great for lakes or streams and are proven fish
getters. Try letting this bait sink and retrieve it with irregular speeds without getting it caught on the bottom.
Floating Plugs - Designed to resemble a small animal which has fallen into the water. These baits pop,
splash, wiggle, sputter and in general make a lot of commotion. A good technique is to cast to a likely-
looking spot and let the plug stand motionless until the ripples disappear. This will hold the fish’s attention.
Then begin to “twitch” the bait with a short wrist action. Finally, retrieve it with varying speeds.
Diving Plugs - These baits usually have large lips which permit the lure to dive when retrieved. There are
also weighted baits which sink normally.
Jigs - Are used to bounce off the bottom. They are best used in a darting-diving motion.
Plastic Worms - These are particularly
effective for bass. The best tip for
worms is to fish them slowly. Let them
“crawl” along the bottom until you feel
a slight tap from the fish. Practice will
tell you whether you have a bite or are
simply hung up.
