KEEPALL SAFETYWARNINGS AND INSTRUCTIONSFOR
THE FUTURE !
Safety
warnings common for grinding, sanding,wire
brushing, polishing, carving or abrasive cutting-off
operations:
a) Thispower tool is intended to function as a
grinder, sander, wire brush, polisher, carving or
cut-off tool.Read allsafety warnings, instruc-
tions, illustrations and specifications provided
withthis power tool. Failure to followall instructions
listedbelowmay result in electric shock, fire and/or
serious injury.
c) Do not use accessorieswhich are not specifically
designedand recommendedbythe toolmanu-
facturer. Just because the accessorycan be at-
tached to your power tool, it does not assure safe op-
eration.
d) The rated speed of thegrinding accessories must
be at least equal to the maximum speedmarked
on thepower tool. Grinding accessories running
faster than theirrated speed can break and fly apart.
e) Theoutside diameter and the thickness of your
accessorymust be within the capacity rating of
your power tool. Incorrectly sized accessories can-
not be adequately controlled.
f) The arbour size of wheels, sanding drumsorany
other accessorymust properly fit the spindle or
collet of thepower tool. Accessories thatdonot
match the mountinghardware of the power tool will
run out of balance, vibrate excessively and may
cause loss of control.
g) Mandrelmounted wheels, sandingdrums,cutters
or other accessories mustbefully inserted into
the colletorchuck. If the mandrel is insufficiently
held and/orthe overhang of the wheelistoo long, the
mounted wheel may become looseand be ejectedat
high velocity.
h) Do not use adamagedaccessory. Before each
useinspectthe accessory such as abrasive
wheelsfor chips andcracks, sandingdrum for
cracks, tearorexcess wear, wire brush for loose
or cracked wires.Ifpower tool or accessoryis
dropped, inspectfor damageorinstall an undam-
aged accessory.After inspecting and installing
an accessory, positionyourself andbystanders

dfor one minute. Damaged accessories will
normally break apart duringthis test time.
i) Wear personal protective equipment. Depending
on
application, use face shield, safetygoggles or
safetyglasses. As appropriate,wear dust mask,
hearing protectors, gloves and workshopapron
capable of stoppingsmallabrasive or workpiece
fragments. The eyeprotection mustbecapableof
stopping flying debris generatedbyvariousopera-
tions. Thedust mask or respiratormust be capable
of filtratingparticles generated by your operation.
Prolonged exposure to high intensity noise may
cause hearing loss.
j) Keepbystandersasafe distance away fromwork
area. Anyone entering the work areamust wear
personal protective equipment. Fragments of
workpieceorofabroken accessorymay fly away
and cause injury beyond immediate area of opera-
tion.
k) Hold power tool by insulated grippingsurfaces
only, when performinganoperation where the
cutting accessorymay contact hidden wiring or
its owncord. Cutting accessorycontactinga“live”
wire maymake exposed metal parts of the power
tool“live”and could give the operatoranelectric
shock.
l) Always holdthe toolfirmly in your hand(s)
during the start-up. Thereaction torqueofthe
motor,asitacceleratestofull speed, can cause the
tool to twist.
m) Use clamps to supportworkpiece whenever prac-
tical. Neverhold asmallworkpiece in one hand
and the toolinthe otherhand while in use. Clamp-
ing asmall workpieceallows youtouse your hand(s)
to control the tool. Round material such as dowel
rods, pipes or tubing have atendencytoroll while
being cut, and maycausethe bit to bind or jump to-
wardyou.
n) Position the cord clear of thespinning accessory.
If youlose control, the cord may be cutorsnagged
and your handorarm may be pulled into the spinning
accessory.
o) Neverlay the power tooldown untilthe acces-
sory has come to acomplete stop. The spinning
accessorymay grab the surface and pull the power
tool out of your control.
p)
After changingthe bits or making anyadjust-
ments, make sure the collet nut, chuckorany
other adjustment devices are securely tightened.
Loose
adjustment devices can unexpectedlyshift,
causing loss of control, loose rotating components
will be violently thrown.
q) Do not run the power toolwhile carrying it at your
side. Accidental contact with the spinning accessory
could snagyour clothing,pulling the accessoryinto
your body.
r) Regularly clean thepower tool’s airvents. The
motor’s fan will drawthe dust inside the housing and
excessive accumulation of powdered metal may
cause electrical hazards.
s) Do not operate the power toolnear flammable
materials. Sparkscouldignite these materials.
t) Do not use accessoriesthat require liquid
coolants. Using waterorother liquid coolants may
result in electrocution or shock.
Further safety instructions for all operations
Kickbackand related warnings
Kickbackisasudden reaction to apinched or snagged
rotating wheel, sanding band, brush or anyother acces-
sory. Pinchingorsnagging causesrapid stalling of the
rotatingaccessory which in turncauses the uncontrolled
powertool to be forced in the direction opposite of the
accessory’s rotation.
Forexample, if an abrasive wheel is snagged or pinched
by the workpiece, the edge of the wheelthatisentering
into the pinch point can dig into the surface of the mate-
rial causing the wheeltoclimb out or kick out.The wheel
may either jump toward or away from the operator,de-
pending on directionofthe wheel’s movement at the
point of pinching. Abrasivewheels mayalso break under
these conditions.
Kickback is the resultofpower tool misuseand/or incor-
rect operatingprocedures or conditionsand can be
avoided by takingproper precautions as given below.
a) Maintain afirm grip on the power tooland posi-
tion your body and arm to allow you to resist
kickbac
kforces. The operatorcan control kickback
forces, if properprecautionsare taken.
b) Use specialcare whenworking corners,sharp
edg
es etc. Avoid bouncing andsnagging the ac-
cessory. Corners, sharpedges or bouncing have a
tendencytosnagthe rotating accessoryand cause
loss of controlorkickback.
c) Do not attach atoothed sawblade. Suchblades
createfrequent kickbackand loss of control.
d) Always feed thebit into the material in the same
directionasthe cutting edge is exiting fromthe
material(which is thesame directionasthe
chips are thrown). Feeding the tool in the wrongdi-
rection causes the cuttingedge of the bit to climb out
of the work and pull the tool in the direction of this
feed.
e) When usingrotary files, cut-off wheels, high-
speedcuttersortungsten carbide cutters, always
have the work securely clamped. These wheels
will grabifthey become slightly canted in the groove,
and can kickback. When acut-offwheelgrabs,the
wheelitselfusually breaks. Whenarotaryfile, high-
speed cutterortungstencarbide cutter grabs, it may
jump from the groove and you could losecontrol of
the tool.
Safety warnings specific for grindingand abrasive
cutting-off operations:
a) Use onlywheeltypes that are recommendedfor
your power tooland only for recommendedap-
plications. Forexample:donot grind withthe side
of acut-off wheel. Abrasive cut-off wheels are in-
tended for peripheral grinding, side forces applied to
these wheels maycausethem to shatter.
b) For threaded abrasivecones andplugs use only
undamaged wheelmandrels with an unrelieved
shoulderflange that are of correctsize and
length. Proper mandrels will reduce the possibility
of breakage.
c) Do not “jam”acut-off wheel or apply excessive
pressure.Donot attempttomake an excessive
depth of cut. Overstressingthe wheelincreasesthe
loading and susceptibility to twisting or snagging of
the
wheelinthe cut and the possibilityofkickback
or wheelbreakage.
d) Do notposition yourhand in line with and behind
th
erotating wheel. Whenthe wheel, at the point of
operation, ismovingaway from your hand, the pos-
sible kickback maypropel the spinning wheel and
the power tool directlyatyou.
e) Whenwheelispinched, snagged or wheninter-
rupting acut for anyreason, switch off thepower
tooland hold the power toolmotionless untilthe
wheel comestoacomplete stop.Never attempt
to remove the cut-off wheel fromthe cut while
the wheel is in motion otherwise kickbackmay
occur. Investigate and take correctiveactiontoelim-
inate the cause of wheelpinching or snagging.
f) Do not restart thecutting operationinthe work-
piece. Letthe wheel reach full speedand care-
fully re-enter the cut. Thewheelmay bind, walk up
or kickbackifthe power tool is restarted in the work-
piece.
g) Support panelsorany oversized workpiece to
minimize therisk of wheel pinching and kick-
back. Large workpieces tend to sagunder their own
weight. Supports must be placed under the work-
piece nearthe line of cut and nearthe edge of the
workpiece on both sides of the wheel.
h) Use extra cautionwhen making a“pocket cut”
into existing walls or otherblind areas. Thepro-
trudingwheelmay cutgas or water pipes,electrical
wiring or objects thatcan cause kickback.
Safety warnings specific for wire brushingopera-
tions:
a) Be aware that wirebristles are thrown by the
brush even duringordinary operation. Do not
overstress thewiresbyapplying excessiveload
to thebrush. The wire bristles can easily penetrate
light clothing and/or skin.
b) Allow brushes to run at operating speed for at
least one minute before using them.During this
time no one is to stand in front or in line with the
brush. Loose bristles or wires will be discharged dur-
ing the run-in time.
-14-
c)
Direct thedischarge of the spinning wirebrush
away fromyou. Small particles and tinywire frag-
ments may be discharged at high velocityduring the
use
of these brushesand maybecome imbedded in
your skin.

have ashaftdiameter of max. 3.2 mm.
•Insertthe tools arefar as possiblewhen clamping.En-
sure thatthe shaftofthe tool doesnot standout more
than 30 mm from the collet. Excessivelyprotruding
shafts can bend easily and contributetopoor concen-
tricity.
•Donot in anycase usebits and cutterswith an arbour
lengthofmore than 55 mm!
•When using collets, alwaysmake sure thatthe collet
chuck and the utilisedtool have the same shaft diam-
eter! Thearbourofthe tool must be seatedfirmly and
securely in the collet!
