Using ScanToFile to Scan Documents
ScanToFile is a TWAIN compliant application that enables you to scan and save photographs, documents and
identification cards to your computer. The images can be saved as PDF, JPEG, TIFF, or Windows BMP image formats.
Before using ScanToFile, you must first install the scanner drivers on your computer. Please refer to the Scanner
Installation Guide for instructions on how to install the scanner drivers.
Follow these steps to begin scanning with ScanToFile.
1. Start up ScanToFile.
You can locate the program as follows:
a. In Windows 7 or Windows 10, click on the Windows Start icon on the lower left corner of the screen, and
type in “ScanToFile” in the Search box.
b. In Windows 8, go to the Windows main START screen and click on the Search icon on the top right
corner, and then type in “ScanToFile” in the Search box.
The ScanToFile main screen will be displayed when the program starts up.
2. Select the Scanner.
You have to first select a scanner before you can scan an image.
Click on File Select Scanner from the main menu.
In the Select Scanner dialog box, select the “Scanner-name” which matches the scanner you are using with the
program. (Note: DO NOT select the “WIA-Scanner-name” option which limits the capability of the scanner device.)

3. Click on File Scan… (or use the F1 key) to begin scanning. The Scanner Twain User Interface will be displayed.
Select the desired scanning options from the User Interface, and then click ‘Scan” to scan in the image. The
scanned image will be displayed in the main screen.
4. To Save the displayed image, click File Save Image (or use the F2 key).
(Note: The Previous Image and Next Image options on the main menu bar are only used when you are scanning with a
duplex scanner and acquiring 2 separate images in one pass. Otherwise the scanned image is always a single image, and
the Previous/Next image options are not used.)
AutoSave Image Option
To automatically save each image after it is scanned, click on the AutoSave Image option.
a. Check the Enable AutoSave box.
b. Browse to the folder where you want the images to be saved.
c. Specify the Image Filename options. The Number parameter automatically increments for each new file
which is saved.
d. Select the Image format to save the image.
e. Select the appropriate Prompt checkbox options, and then click OK.
After each scan, the displayed image will be automatically saved to the folder specified.
Continuous Scan Mode
This mode enables you to scan a number of images continuously without having to repeatedly click on File Scan to start
each new scan. Enable/disable this mode by clicking on File Continuous Scan option.
View Print Image Option
Click on the File View Print image option to transfer the displayed image to the Windows assigned default image viewer.
(To change the default image viewer program in Windows, open the Windows Control Panel and select Programs
Default Programs. Consult Windows help for details on how to do change default programs.)
