Potassium Permanganate is a strong oxidizing agent that converts dissolved iron

and/or manganese to insoluble oxides which can easily be removed through

filtration. Potassium Permanganate regenerates and oxidizes greensand iron

filter media, restoring the exchange capacity of the unit.

thoroughly with water for 15 minutes and get medical attention. If swallowed: Do not induce vomiting. Drink two or three glasses of water and get immediate medical attention. Call a poison control center or

doctor immediately for treatment advice (1-800-222-1222). Storage/Disposal: Store in original container and reseal after each use. Store container away from heat, flames and combustible materials. Do not

reuse container. Packaging is recyclable.

REGENERATION - Normal procedure for regenerating an iron filter is

usually specified by the filter manufacturer or supplier and depends on

water conditions. There are many types, designs and methods of

introducing Potassium Permanganate to the filter. A normal method is to

make a solution and apply automatically or manually to the filter at regular

intervals. If unsure, consult owner’s manual. NOTE: Do not use in a

water softener. DOSAGE For each cubic foot of filter media, 1/4 cup -

1/2 cup dry Potassium Permanganate is required. It may be added directly

to the filter or mixed with water and added as a solution. At 50º F (10º C)

1/2 cup of Potassium Permanganate can dissolve in 1 gal. of water. At

room temperature or 72º F (22º C) 1 cup can dissolve in 1 gal. of water.
