INTRODUCTION
The TATU rotary cutter, model RC² 1300, was specially designed for carrying out
the cleaning of line spacings on coffee plantations and cultivated areas of similar
crops. The models RC² 1500 & 1700 are widely used for general cutting.
All models operate in a central or lateral position, for economy and efficiency.
The gearbox is protected by slip clutch, giving greater useful life and low
maintenance cost.
The RC² 1300, RC² 1500, RC² 1700 cutters are equipped with two thermally
treated DUROMARK cuttings blades.
This manual contains all the necessary information for optimum use of the cutter.
The operator should read the entire manual before using the cutter and pay careful
attention to the safety recommendations.
For further information or in the event of any technical problems, please consult
the retailer who, along with the Technical Assistance Department of the factorty,
guarantees the proper functioning of your TATU rotary cutter.

General Information
- The indications RIGHT HAND AND LEFT HAND are made observing the cutter
from behind.
- To obtain parts or Technical assistance it is necessary to provide the details
displayed on the identification plate which is located on the side of the drawbar.
The original purchaser of any Tatu product is entitled to the following:
- Certificate of guarantee;
- Instruction manual;
- Technical explanation by the retailer.
- It is the responsibility of the owner to check the condition of the product on
receipt and to ckeck the terms of the guarantee.
- Special attention should be paid to the Safety Recommendations and to the
product operation and maintenance guidelines.
- The instructions in this manual indicate the optimum usage and should ensure
maximum results and increase the life of this product.
- This manual should be read by all persons operating and maintaining this
equipment.

The cutter model RC² 1300, 1500 & 1700 are easy to operate as long as basic
and necessary precautions are taken.
- Always be aware that SAFETY demands CONSTANT ATTENTION, OBSERVATION
AND CAUTION; during use, transport, maintenance and storage of the cutter.

Do not test
leakages in the
hydraulic system
with the hands. The
high pressure can
cause serious
injury.
Take particular
care when turning
on inclines.
There is a danger
of overtuning.

(fertilizers, treated
seeds, etc.) to

Never try to make

- During operation or transportation only the operator is permitted to be
on the tractor.
- Children should not be allowed to play near or on the cutter, whether it is
in operation, being transported or in storage.
- Survey the terrain completely before starting to cut. Clearly mark
dangerous spots or obstacles.
- Use appropriate speed for the terrain or for the paths to be travelled.
- Use personal protection equipment.
- Use appropriate clothes and footwear. Avoid long or tight clothing which
can become entangled in moving parts.
- Never operate without the safety devices of the machine.
- Take care when coupling the device with the tractor.
- When raising or lowering the cutter ensure that there are no persons or
animals close by.
- Be aware of the width of the equipment when negotiating narrow spaces.
- Whenever un-hitching the cutter, whether in a fied or indoors, make sure
it is on firm and level ground. Ensure that it is properly supported.
- See general safety recommendations on the inside cover of this manual.
Transporting on a Public Road
Transportation over long distances by road must be done following these
safety instructions:
- Use adequate ramps to load and unload the machine. Do not attempt
to load on a a slope as serious accidents coud occur.
- When loading is done with a crane, attach the hoist at the appropriate
points.
- Ensure that the cutter is adequately secured.
- Use sufficient fastenings (ropes, chains, cord, etc...) to immobilize the cutter
during transport.
- Check the condition of the cargo after the first 8-10 kilometres of the
journery, then at 80-100 kilometre intervals check to ensure that the
fastenings have not become loose. Check the load more frequently on
bumpy roads.
- Always be alert. Pay attention to headroom clearance, especially when
passing underneath electricity cables, viaducts, etc...
- Always check applicable laws regarding height and width limits for loads.
If necessary, use flags, lights and reflectors to alert other motorists.

Attention: - THE CUTTERS ARE INTENDED FOR AGRICULTURAL USE, AND SHOULD NOT
BE USED IN URBAN AREAS.
Rotary Cutters can throw fragments away at high-speeds, which can cause serious
injuries or death for people near around.
Don’t operate the Rotary Cutter with people around.

- In order to prevent serious personal injury read and understand the manual.
- Keep the belts and transmissions tighten and clean.
- Lower the implement, shut the engine off and remove the key from the tractor before uncoupling
or servicing under the implement.
- Keep alert to stop the tractor and the implement immediately in case of emercency.
- Unqualified people and children are not allowed to operate this equipment.
- Be careful with uneven terrain and reduce the speed in sharp turns.
- Never operate the machine in transport position.

Preparing the Tractor
If necessary use counterweights on the front of the tractor.
Hitching to the Tractor
When coupling, find the most level piece of ground possible.
With the tractor in reverse, slowly approach contact with the cutter and be
prepared to apply the brakes. When close, use the lever to control the position of
the hydraulic, so that the lower left arm is at the same heigth as the coupling pin on
the cutter.
1st) Couple the lower left arm and insert the lock pin.
2nd) Couple the upper arm (3rd point) and insert the lock pin.
3rd) Finally couple the lower right arm which can be raised or lowered by using
the levelling crank. At this point the extension screw of the upper arm of the tractor
can be used to move the cutter closer or further, to facilitate hitching.
For perfect coupling, the cutter should be centralised with the tractor, and this
is done in the following manner:
- Align the drawbar of the cutter with the third point of the tractor.
- Lift the cutter completely
- Check that the distances between the lower arms and the tyres are equal on
both sides (measurement "A" in the figure below), both beig at the same height.
Note: - NEVER ADJUST THE LOWER ARMS OF THE HYDRAULIC WITH THE CUTTER
LOWERED.

Coupling the Cardan with Drive Shaft
Before commencing operation, it is necessary to ckeck the length of the cardan
shaft, when functioning with the tractor, and in addition that it has been assembled
correctly.
- With the cutter properly coupled to the tractor, but with the cardan shaft
disconnected, move the hydraulic until it reaches the minimum distance (A) between
the drive shaft and muliplier.
- Draw back the "female" of the cardan and couple it to the drive shaft.
- At the same time position it above the "male", as if it were coupled and check
the dimensions.
- If necessary, shorten equally the "male" and the "female" as well as the
protectors.
Note: - IT IS NECESSARY TO SMOOTH OFF THE CUT PARTS (MALE/FEMALE), USING A
FILE. IMMEDIATELY REMOVE THE FILINGS AND LUBRICATE THE MALE WITH A
FINE LAYER OF GREASE.
- Every time the tractor is changed, re-check the length of the cardan shaft.
- The chains from the protection caps must be fastened to the cutter and the
tractor so that they do not become loose during operation.
The correct assembly of the cardan shaft is as shown in the figure below. Notice
the arrangements of the forks on the crosspiece, taking care when disassembling.
Incorrect assembly will result in excessive vibration, which is harmful to the trasmission.

Fitting the Vented Oil Gauges
Remove the rear stopper from the multipliers and insert the vented oil gauge
(A).
Check the oil level as soon as the gauge has been inserted into the hole, without
screwing it in.
The oil level should be adjusted according to the indicator markings, when the
cutter is on level ground.
Use only SAE 90 oil.

Positioning for Use
The RC² 1300, RC² 1500, RC² 1700 cutters can be operated in a central or lateral
position in relation to the tractor. If it is necessary to alter the position, follow the
instructions in the diagram.
- Loosen the screws which secure the crossarm brace (A). It is not necessary to
remove them.
- Disconnect the drawbar from the chassis, removing the screws, flat washers,
spring washers and nuts.

Daily Preparation for Use
Before commencing use it is advisable to make a complete check of the cutter.
Tighten all nuts and screws.
Adequately lubricate all appropriate points. ( See lubricating instructions on
page 22).

Note: - WHEN ADJUSTING THE CUTTING HEIGHT IT IS NECESSARY TO ALSO ADJUST
THE HYDRAULIC LEVERS IN ORDER TO RE-LEVEL THE CUTTER.
- FOR BEST OPERATION WE RECOMMEND THAT THE CUTTING HEIGHT BE A
MINIMUM OF 40 MM ABOVE THE GROUND.
- THE BLADES SHOULD BE PUT IN OPERATION BEFORE COMMENCING CUTTING.

Adjustment of the Drawbar Extention ( 3rd Point Joint)
Using the upper arm of the 3rd point, adjust the draw bar extension so that it is
slightly inclined to the rear, as in the diagram. Thus there will be sufficient play to
allow for irregularities in the surface of the terrain.

Note.: THE PLATES (B) MUST BE REPLACED AS SOON AS TO REACH THE THICKNESS OF
1,5 MM; OR BEFORE OCCURS GREATER DAMAGES. REMOVE THE NUTS (A) AND
DISASSEMBLE THE SLIP CLUTCH.
The more frequent occurrence of the clutch slip operation, after some time of
use and without be operating with overloads, indicates that there is need of its
adjustment due to the wear occurred in the friction plates (B).
It is important to keep the adjust of 28 mm in the springs (See detail below), for
compensate the wear of the friction plates (B) and keeping the good operation of
the clutch.
Note: WHEN FINDING A GREAT VOLUME OF VEGETATION OR IF THE CUT RESISTANCE
WILL BE EXTREME, WORKS CUTTING A NARROWER BAND OR REDUCES THE
OPERATION SPEED.
Slip Clutch
The slip clutch is adjusted in the factory, is dispensable any adjustment before
starting to use the cutter.
When finding overloads the slip clutch enters in operation, is necessary to stop
the service raising immediately the cutter.
