NOTE FOR ER40200: While the unit is
exchanging air between indoors and
outdoors, it continues to circulate the
air inside the house. For this reason, the
ions/circulation indicator light stays
on.
E) High speed circulation mode:
The circulation mode insures uniform air
quality and humidity control. When
humidity level is too high, the unit
exchanges with the exterior; otherwise, it
circulates the indoor air at maximum
speed. Also, during this operation the
mechanical filters remove dust particules
from ambient air, while finer dust particules
as well as some odours are neutralized by
the electronic air purifier (ionizer). This
mode is ideal, especially if your home has
a baseboard heating system.
F) Low speed circulation mode:
The circulation mode insures uniform air
quality and humidity control. When
humidity level is too high, the unit
exchanges with the exterior; otherwise, it
circulates the indoor air at minimum speed.
Also, during this operation the mechanical
filters remove dust particules from the
ambient air, while finer dust particules as
well as some odours are neutralized by the
electronic air purifier (ionizer).
G) Auto mode:
To control air quality and humidity inex-
pensively, select the auto mode. The unit
will automatically exchange air with out-
side at low speed, once every hour for 20
minutes.
Note: If the relative humidity level is higher than
selected on the dehumidistat, the unit
goes into high speed exchange with out-
side. This mode is ideal when occupants
are absent.
H) Intermittent exchange mode:
To control air quality and humidity inex-
pensively, select the intermittent
exchange mode. The unit will automatical-
ly exchange air with outside at high speed
when the humidity level is too high. When
humidity is at the desired level, the unit
doesn’t work.
I) Mode selector:
Three modes are available to the user.
Using the push-button switch, select the
desired mode: intermittent, continuous low
speed exchange or circulation mode. A
light indicates to the user in which mode
the ventilation system is operating.
To start or to stop the unit, press the push-
button switch until the desired mode is dis-
played. When all mode indicators are off,
the unit is in the mode.
J) Maintenance light:
A timer will turn on this light every 3 months
to indicate to the user that the filters have
to be cleaned. The light turns off when the
unit is disconnected for maintenance.

D) Exchange light:
This light indicates to the user that the
ventilation unit is exchanging air with

air outside and replaces it with fresh, dry
air from outside).
The heat recovery core recovers heat
from the exhausted air and uses it to warm
the fresh air coming from outside the
house. This operation regulates the humid-
ity level in the house effectively and eco-
nomically.
A) On/Off switch:
0 = Off
I = Low Speed Operation
(high speed

II = High Speed Operation
This switch is used to put the unit in
service.
B) Humidity level selector:
The humidity level selector allows
control of the humidity level in your
home for optimum comfort.
C) Ions/circulation
indicator light:
The ions/circulation indicator light
comes on when the unit is operating.
It indicates to the user that the unit is
circulating the air inside the house
making the temperature and

A) Wall control
Control of ER40100 and PRO300 is a
basic wall control.
The wall control includes a dehu-
midistat to control humidity level you
desire. When humidity level in your
house is greater than what you
selected, the unit lowers it by
exchanging with fresh air from outside.
If the interior humidity level is lower than
selected, the unit remains on standby,
continually measuring the humidity
level to come on when needed.
To be sure that the unit will stay off, set
the dehumidistat wall control at the off
position.
B) Rate of exchange
Select the rate of exchange ac-
cording to your needs and the outside
temperature to get the desired comfort.
You will find a switch on the right side of
the unit that will allow you to select the
capacity of exchange wanted.
The high speed position ensures
maximum exchange and optimum
control of humidity level.
The slow speed position allows
minimum exchange for those with
occasional or minor humidity problems

WARNING
The way your house has been built may have an impact on the results whatever control
method is adopted. Therefore, it is better to evaluate the behavior of your house. If, during
winter, you notice that there is a recurring problem with condensation even if the control
is positioned properly, it would be appropriate to lower the humidity level in your home.
However, it is important to realize that the comfort level for human beings is between 25%
and 45% humidity. What level to choose? The choice is yours and with a little experience,
you will find the point best suited for you.
A) SEASONAL PICTOGRAMS, THE EASY-TO-USE CONTROLLER
FOR ER40200, ER40205, ER40207
Just set the humidity level selector to the
current season and the unit takes over. In
fact, the electronic control coordinates all
the functions of your Air Exchanger with
Heat Recovery, giving you complete
peace of mind and satisfaction.
The season when cool air is always
welcome. The "summer daytime" selection
guarantees you constant air circulation in
your home without exchanging air with
the outside. Thus, cool air from the
basement is diffused throughout the
house.
Night falls. It is time to change the air in
your home. The "summer night-time"
selection allows air exchange with the
outside. Thus, you can enjoy the cool, pure
night air.
Control of the humidity level in the winter is
of utmost importance. The colder the
outside temperature, the greater the risk of
condensation on your windows. The
"winter" selection ensures that excess
humidity is exhausted preventing
condensation on your windows. For greater
efficiency, adjust the humidity level selector
according to the outside temperature.
Please take note that you will get a better
control over humidity when the unit is
operating at maximum speed.
The recovery of heat by the Air Exchanger
with Heat Recovery unit becomes most
important in this season. You will obtain
superior ventilation at minimal cost.
During fall, variations in outside
temperatures,as well as rain, make control
of the humidity level very difficult. A rapid
lowering of outside temperatures will then
cause condensation on your windows. Be
alert! This variation in temperature is your
worst enemy. Watch the outside
temperature and adjust your control
accordingly. You know that winter can
start well before December 21!
Milder days are approaching. Good air
circulation will ensure uniform temperature
and humidity level. Using the "spring"
selection, your comfort is assured as the
unit circulates the air 24 hours per day.

B) THE RELATIVE HUMIDITY LEVEL, FOR THE DILIGENT
The control shows, between the seasonal
pictograms and the humidity selector, the
relative humidity levels. You can then
select the desired level of relative
humidity. During the cold seasons, we
recommend to select it according to the
outside temperature. (Refer to the
temperatures of the "winter" zone of the
pictograms.) This way, you will reduce risks
of condensation on your windows while
having a better efficiency of your Air
Exchanger with Heat Recovery.
NOTE: Remember, during the cold seasons,
the colder the outside temperature is, the
more the risks you have to get
condensation on your windows. If you
reduce the level of relative humidity inside
your house, the risks of condensation on
your windows will decrease.
To evaluate the humidity level in your
home, follow these steps:
1. Set the control at 80% humidity.
2. Turn the humidity selector towards the
minimum position (20%).
3. Stop when a "click" is heard.
4. This “click” indicates the current
humidity level in your home. Note that
the control is precise to 10%. This
compares favorably to humidity
readers found on the market.
WARNING

Identify the part you wish to maintain.
(1) Stale air intake filter.
(2) Fresh air intake filter (located behind
the heat recovery core).
(3) Heat recovery core.
(4) Ventilator wheel and blades.
(5) Front housing (removable for access
to the ventilator wheel).
(6) Motor.
(7) Electronic control.
(8) Damper motor (operates the
damper system).
(9) Damper (also located behind the
heat recovery core).
(10) Drain.
(11) Condensation tray.
2.1 HOW TO ACCESS THE COMPONENTS
Attention: To guarantee your safety, you should always disconnect the unit from the
power source before doing any maintenance.
• Undo the safety screw on the door fastener.
• Open the door. It can be removed by lifting upwards.
• You now have access to all the components for maintenance.

4. Remove the core from the unit.
5. Take note that there is only one correct
position for the core. This position is
essential for the unit to function properly.
Information is provided on the sticker on
the core. Inserting the core is as easy as
removing it.
NOTE: Be sure that the heat recovery core
is well placed. This will avoid many
problems.
1. Grasp the extrusion with one hand and
place the other hand on top of the unit to
keep it steady.
2. Tip the core towards the bottom.
See Figure 1.
3. Pull the core gently towards you.
See Figure 2.

recovery core for, at least, three (3) hours
in a solution of warm water and mild soap.
Rinse under a stream of water.
NOTE: Hot water and a strong detergent
will damage the heat recovery core.
Ventilation wheel and blades
Clean the ventilation wheel and pales
with a vacuum. Blades can be brushed
with a soft brush (e.g. toothbrush).
Condensation tray
Clean the condensation tray and verify
the water is flowing properly to the drain.
NOTE: The motor is permanently
lubricated. Lubricating the bearings is not
recommended. The ionizer does not need
any maintenance.
A) EVERY THREE (3) MONTHS
Air filters
Air filters are washable. Under normal
conditions, we recommend that they be
washed every three (3) months. Use a
vacuum cleaner to remove the heaviest
dust deposits. Then, clean them in hot,
soapy water and rinse under a stream of
water.
Exterior openings
Clean the screens on the exterior intake
and exhaust ports.
B) ANNUALLY
Heat recovery core
The heat recovery core must be handled
carefully (cf: core installation). We
recommend that it be washed once a
year in the fall to ensure better heat

• Stale air intake filter
This filter is directly accessible when the door is open. Slide the filter towards you to
remove from the unit.
• Fresh air intake filter
This filter is accessible behind the heat recovery core. The heat recovery core must
be removed to get at it. Once the recovery core is out of the unit, the filter slides out
easily from the core support.
• Heat recovery core
The heat recovery core must be removed very carefully. The core extrusion facing
you was designed to serve as a handle.

2.2 HOW TO MAINTAIN YOUR UNIT

it upwards and then, towards you.
2. To reinstall the half of the housing,
follow the same sequence in reverse.
B) VENTILATOR WHEEL AND BLADES

- House heated only with slow combustion - Combine main heating system with slow combustion.
- Air cannot circulate close to windows. - Allow air to circulate freely close to windows by not
completely closing curtains, shades, etc.
WARNING:
Since the unit electronic control system incorporates a microprocessor, it may not operate correctly because of external noise or very short power failure. If this happens, disconnect the power
plug from the wall outlet, and wait approximately 10 seconds, then plug the unit and restart operation.
Do not use the Air Exchanger with Heat Recovery during sanding of gyproc joints or other major work. This dust will damage the unit.
Do not use the Air Exchanger with Heat Recovery during any varnishing work. The vapors from the varnish can damage the unit.

4.2 PREPARATION FOR THE INSTALLATION OF YOUR AIR EXCHANGER
WITH HEAT RECOVERY
A) SUGGESTED TOOLS:
The use of the following tools is suggested for installing your Air Exchanger with Heat
Recovery:

We strongly recommend you read this section if you are installing your Air Exchanger with
Heat Recovery yourself. If you have any questions, contact Venmar Ventilation inc. toll
free number: 1-800-567-3855 (Quebec, Ontario and Atlantic provinces). A technician will
be pleased to assist you (from Monday to Friday, from 8:30 to 17:00, Eastern time).
4.1 CHOICE OF TYPE OF INSTALLATION AND PARTS KIT REQUIRED

B) DETERMINING THE LOCATION OF COMPONENTS
Several suggestions to allow you to determine the ideal location for each of the components.
Stale air intake register:
- Always locate the register at the highest point in the house, as humidity is
concentrated at this point.
- Position the register as far from the stairway as possible and in such a way that the
air circulates in all the lived-in spaces in the house.
- Avoid installing the register in a bathroom or a bedroom; place it in a location where
the air circulates freely (eg.: living room, kitchen, hallway).
- Position the register on a wall backing into a closet. This will allow you to install the
flexible duct in the closet.
- For silent operation, leave a minimum of 15 feet of flexible duct between the stale
air intake register and the unit.
- Do not install the register close to a source of heat. The temperature of the intake
air must not exceed 50°C.

Fresh air distribution register:
- Always locate the register in a large, open area in the basement to ensure the
greatest possible circulation of air.
- Position the register as far from the stairway as possible and in such a way that the
air circulates in all the lived-in spaces of the house.
- Do not ventilate basements with earth floors or the underfloor spaces. These are not
considered to be lived-in spaces.
- If you have a slow combustion fireplace, place the register in such a way that the
heat from this unit can be distributed throughout the house.
- For silent operation, leave at least 15 feet of flexible duct between the fresh air
distribution register and the unit.
- To obtain a more silent installation, you can install a silencer between the fresh air
distribution register. This part is available at your dealer.
Unit:
- Position the unit where there is no possibility of freezing. Generally, we recommend
the basement or a closet.
- Place the unit as close as possible to an outside wall to minimize the length of the
insulated ducts.
- If possible, place the unit close to a drain and an electrical outlet.
- Position the unit in such a way as to respect the lengths of the ducts supplied in the
other parts kits.
- Place the unit far from the lived-in areas of the house where peace and quietness
are desired.
- The location must be easily accessible for maintenance of the unit.
Exterior openings:
- Position the fresh air intake port far from sources of contamination such as the
garage, dryer outlet, central vacuum system, gas regulator.
- Place the openings, at least, 450 mm (18 inches) above the ground.
- Leave, at least, 2 meters (6 feet) between the two openings.
- Make the two holes in the end-joists around the house.
Wall control:
- Locate the wall control on the ground floor of the house.
- Locate the wall control in an area where air circulates (eg.: hallway, living room,
dining room, etc.).
- The wall control should be positioned approximately 1.5 meter (60 inches) from the
floor.
4.3 INSTALLATION OF YOUR AIR EXCHANGER WITH HEAT
RECOVERY
To facilitate the installation of your unit, follow these steps.
Note: For a better view of the overall installation, refer to the assembly drawings on
pages 20 to 22.

Make the hole(s) for the duct to
pass from one floor to another:
5 mm ø (1/4”) bigger than your duct
diameter.

Install the ambient air intake
register(s) (according to the parts
kit(s) used):
a) Make the hole(s).
Basement kit:
5 mm ø (1/4”) smaller than the size
of your register.
Basement kit with additional
2-storied kit:
Make 2 rectangular holes
100 mm x 245 mm (4” x 9 3/4”).
Basement kit with additional
multi-level kit:
Make 2 round holes 155 mm ø (6”).
b) Install the register(s).

Install the fresh air distribution
register:
a) Make the hole(s): 5 mm ø (1/4”)
smaller than the size of your register.
b) Attach the register and flexible
duct (see Diagram 1).

Important: Make sure that the insulation
recovers completely the flexible duct and
that it is not compressed (i.e. do not fix the
tie-rap around the insulation!). Verify that
the vapor-barrier is not pierced.
For greater efficiency from your unit, we ask
you to respect the duct lengths supplied
with the different kits, to stretch the ducts
well and to keep them straight, if possible.

Install the drain.
a) Install the drain adaptor (see
diagram 8).
b) Attach the drain tube to the drain
adaptor.
c) Make a loop in the drain tube to
prevent unpleasant odors
entering the ventilation system
from the main sewage line.
(see Diagram 8).

Install the wall control:
For: ER40200-ER40205-ER40207
a) Make a hole in the wall where
you wish to position the wall
control.
b) Run the wire in the wall.
c) Attach the wire to the wall
control following the color code.
d) Attach the wall control unit to the
wall. (See Diagram 12).
e) Connect the wire to the unit by
passing it through the hole
located on the top of the unit.
Follow the color code.
(See Diagram 13)
Caution: The wall control is powered by
12 volts DC.

Install the exterior fresh air intake
and stale air exhaust ports:
a) Make 2 round 160 mm diameter
holes (6 1/4") in the end-joists
around the house.
Leave, at least, 2 meters (6 feet)
between the two openings.
b) Attach the ports (see Diagram 3).
c) Waterproof everything with
caulking.

Install the unit.
a) Attach the 4 hooks to the 4
corners of the unit.
b) Cut the chain into 4 lengths.
c) Attach the chains to the ceiling
joists.
d) Suspend the unit using the chains
and hooks. It is very important that
the unit be leveled.
e) Put the springs on the chains as
shown in Diagram 4. The springs
stop the vibrations from the unit
being transmitted to the structure
of your house.

Connect the flexible ducts to the
unit:
Connect the flexible duct to the fresh air
distribution and stale air intake ports on
the unit with the help of screws (see
diagrams 5 & 6)
Connect the flexible insulated duct to
the fresh air intake and stale air exhaust
ports by following these three steps:
a)
Fix the flexible duct to the inner ring of
the port by using a tie-rap
b)
Pull down the insulation and make
sure that it recovers completely the
flexible duct
c)
Pull-down the vapor-barrier and fix it
to the outer ring of the port with the
help of duct tape (see diagram 7)

a) Make a hole in the wall where
you wish to position the wall
control.
b) Run the wire in the wall.
c) Connect the wires to the control
using connector block provi-
ded. Don’t forget the ground.
d) Attach the wall control unit to the
wall. (See Diagram 9).
e) Connect the wire to the unit by
running it inside the junction box
provided.(See Diagram 10 and
11).
Caution: The wall control is powered by
120 volts AC.

Connect the unit.
Once the preceding steps are
completed, the unit can now be
connected to a 120 volt outlet. It is
suggested by the CSA that a
120 V/15 A electrical box be brought
to within, at least, 3 feet of the unit (the
charge related to the unit is equivalent
to 1.6 A).
Note: If you connect the unit while the
outside temperature is around -5°C or
below, the unit will automatically
swicth to the defrost mode for
approximately 6 minutes. During the
defrost all functions shown on the wall
control are put on hold. Also note that
if all the lights of the wall control flash
every 8 seconds when you connect
the unit, that means the wall control is
not correctly connected. Unplug the
unit and check the wires.

Verify the operation of your unit.
Verify that your unit is operating
properly by referring to the section 1. If
the unit does not work properly, call our
