Window fans EVN 22,
EVN 22 P and EVN 22 R
These fans are to be used for extracting air from
offices, business rooms and commercial premises,
restaurants, doctors’ practices etc. The EVN 22 R
model can also be used for ventilating rooms.
EVN 22: For air extraction, with airstream-
operated external shutter
EVN 22 P: For air extraction, with airstream-
operated external shutter and pull-cord switch
for manual operation
EVN 22 R: For air extraction or ventilation, with
reversing mode and electrically operated external
shutter
The fans are designed to be installed vertically.
It is not permitted to install them on ceilings
or on sloping roofs or walls.
MAICO accepts no liability for damage caused by
non-authorised use.
Safety instructions
For your own safety, please read the following
safety instructions carefully before starting
to work with the unit. Please keep these
instructions in a secure place to ensure future
safety of operation.
Electrical connection work and repairs should
only be carried out by qualified electricians.
During electrical installation, ensure compliance
with the corresponding regulations, in particular
the pertinent sections of DIN VDE 0100. In
rooms with a bath or shower installed, for
example, part 701 is relevant.
Danger from rotating impeller: While the unit
is running, do not get too close to it with loose
hair or clothing as they may get caught up in it.
Do not insert any objects through the external
grille or the internal housing while the fan is
running as this may cause damage or injury.
This device may only be used:
– when correctly installed in flat glass windows
or in wall or wooden panels (see Installation
chapter).
– when there is sufficient space between it and
the window frame, wall or ceiling.
when the unit is installed complete with external
shutter and internal housing.
– only if the external shutter is operated together
with the EVN-22 internal part.
This device may not be used:
– with hinged double-glazed windows.
– in vicinity to inflammable materials, fluids or
gases.
– in areas subject to explosion hazards
If the fans are being used with air-ventilated
fireplaces, you must ensure that there is sufficient
flow of supply air. The maximum permitted
pressure difference is 4 Pa.
The maximum permitted airstream temperature
is 40°C.
The motor has a thermal overload protection,
which switches the unit off in the event of
overheating. Once the unit has cooled down
again, the fan switches back on automatically.
Before removing the terminal box cover [4],
disconnect the unit completely from the power
supply. To do this, switch off the mains fuse at
the fuse box.
When painting the external shutter, make sure
that this will not have any adverse effect on the
operation of the unit.
The device must not be put into operation if it is
damaged.
The fan is designed in accordance with the
safety requirements within the framework of the
equipment and product safety act as well as the
pertinent regulations laid down in the EC directives.
Modifications and changes to the device are not
permitted and if carried out, they release MAICO
from any and all guarantee commitments or
liability.
Electrical connection:
Please refer to the last page for the circuit
diagrams.
The fan may only be connected with cabling
between 0.75 and 1.5 mm
2
. This must be fitted
with a mains isolation device that has contact
openings of at least 3.0 mm at each pole.
The degree of protection is only guaranteed if the
cabling is fed in correctly through the
corresponding cable grommet [T1] or [T2].
The power supply must comply with the rated
voltage stated on the rating plate.
6
Function
The fan is switched on using a switch that must be
supplied by the customer. A reversing switch should
be used with the EVN 22 R.
EVN 22 P fans with pull-cord switch are switched on
and off using the pull-cord.

Installation
Important notes
Installation should only be carried out by a
specialist.
Danger of injury through cutting: The pane of
glass should not be placed under tension as it
may crack while the unit is being built in. If
necessary, remove the pane and reposition it so
that it is no longer under tension.
Glass/wall thickness = 3 - 30 mm.
Only install the fan vertically.
Under no circumstances should the external
shutter [1] be dismantled.
Only install the external shutter on a level surface
in order to ensure correct functioning.
A Lay the power cable [L]. Employ the ser-vices
of an expert to make the cut-out in the
window [S]. Clean the pane thoroughly before
gluing the external shutter into position. In the
case of installation in a wall or wood panel, use
a drill to make the cut-out [S].
B Dismantle the inner part. To do this, hold
the internal housing [3] firmly at the side and
pull the connecting flange [2] on the motor out
of the internal housing.
Remove the terminal box cover [4]. In the case
of wall or wood panel installation, drill through
the connecting flange at the two marked
locations [Y].
In the case of wall or wood panel installation:
With the flaps open, drill through the four
marked locations [Z] in the external shutter [1].
C Install the external shutter [1].
External side of window pane: Insert the four
screws [6] into the eyelets in the external
shutter, until they click into position. Remove
the protective foil from the gluing points [5].
Line the external shutter up in the cut-out and
press it onto the pane. With the EVN 22 R, feed
the connection cable [7] through the cut-out
first.
External side of wall or wood panel: Fix the
external shutter [1] to the wall or wood panel
with suitable material.
D,E Assemble internal part.
Internal side of window pane: Locate the
connecting flange [2] onto the screws [6], line
it up and press lightly on the screws. Tighten
the locking nuts [8] with the socket spanner [9]
by hand.
Please note: Tighten the nuts [8]
carefully so that the unit and the glass
pane are not damaged.
In the case of the EVN 22 R, insert the connection
cable [7] in the connecting flange, as shown in
display detail „E“.
Internal side of wall or wood panel: If required,
fix the connecting flange [2] to the wall or
wood panel with suitable material.
F Carry out the electrical connections. To
do this, make a circular hole in the connecting
flange with the cable grommet [T1], insert the
power cable [L] and attach the tension relief
[10]. Wire the fan up to the terminal block [11]
according to the wiring diagram located on the
last page.

EVN 22 R: Feed the connection cable [7] into the
terminal box beforehand and wire it up according
to the wiring diagram.
G Put the terminal box cover [4] on and screw
it into position, ensuring that the sealing [12] is
correctly located. With the EVN 22 P, the pull-
cord must be inserted correctly into both guides.
Locate the internal housing [3] into posi-
tion. To do this, hang the internal housing on
the top of the connecting flange [2] at position
, and then click it down into position on the
catch at position . Don’t bend or distort it.
Carry out a function test and you are ready.
With the EVN 22 R, the external shutter opens and
closes with a time delay. The lamella are fully opend
or closed after about 1 to 2 minutes.
Cleaning
Remove internal housing [3]: Hold the internal
housing left and right on the bottom edge and
pull it forwards, with the same pressure on each
side as shown in the top display detail in Figure
„B“. Under no circumstances should the internal
housing be pulled from the top or by using the
internal grille.
Clean the internal part with a dry cloth or use a
vacuum cleaner if required. Open the flaps
upwards to clean the external shutter.
Never use any cleaning agents that may be
injurious to health or that are abrasive or easily
inflammable.
Finally, replace the internal housing [3] as shown
in Figure „G“.
Do not clean the internal housing
in a dish washer.
Troubleshooting
A malfunction can occur, for example, if the
airstream temperatures are too high or if the fan
motor is blocked. The overload protection device
reacts and switches the fan off.
Warning
The fan starts up again automatically once
the fan motor has cooled down.
If the fan fails to operate, always check whether
mains fuse is switched on. If necessary, have the
fan’s wiring checked by an electrician. Before
starting such work, make sure the fan is com-
pletely disconnected from the mains and wait
until the fan has come to a complete stop.
Allow the fan motor to cool down and then the
fan will switch back on automatically (the ther-
mal switch resets automatically).
If the unit fails to restart or if it breaks down
again, remove the power and call on the services
of a specialist.
