Make sure the battery is inserted the right way
round. To avoid damage from leakage, remove
the battery if you will not be using the device
for a long period of time. Damaged or leaking
batteries may cause acid burns on contact
with skin. It is recommended to wear protec-
tive gloves. Never recharge non-rechargeable
batteries. Avoid short circuits and contact with
fire as the battery could explode. Batteries
should be kept out of the reach of children.
Change the battery when the display shows a
flashing flat-battery symbol (17).
Changing the battery
1. Unscrew the battery compartment lid and
remove it
2. Detach spent battery from the battery clip
and connect a new battery of the same type
to the battery clip, ensuring correct polarity
3. Insert the battery into the battery compart-
ment. Place the lid on the battery compart-
ment and screw down
Inserting the battery / changing the battery (Fig. )
The device is fitted to the top of the hot air
tool. HL-Scan can be fitted and removed at
any time.
Fitting / Removal (Fig. )
1. Fit HL-Scan onto the hot air tool
2. When switching ON for the first time, the
device is active in the state it was in on
leaving the factory: temperature setting =
150 °C, alarm tolerance level = 5 %,
emissivity = 0.90, LED light beam ON,
audio signal ON.
3. The display shows the temperature setting
and alarm tolerance level for 5 sec., after
then HL-Scan immediately starts to measure
temperature. The actual temperature at the
work point is indicated on the display
.
Operation
The following settings can be made in the
settings menu:
Temperature setpoint from 0 °C – 300 °C /
32 °F – 572 °F
Alarm tolerance levels of 2.5 %, 5 %, 10 %
Emissivity of 0.85 / 0.90 / 0.95
LED ON/OFF
Audio ON/OFF
1. HL-Scan is switched on by pressing the
ON/OFF button (4). In the first 5 sec. the
display shows the temperature setting (10)
and alarm tolerance level (11) selected for
the last time of use, both flashing
2. The temperature setting is made by press-
ing the "Mode" button (5). The temperature
setting can be adjusted to suit the particular
object using the + button (6) / – button (7).
If you do not wish to change the setting,
please continue at 3.
3. The alarm tolerance level setting is made by
pressing the "Mode" button (5). The alarm
tolerance level setting can be adjusted to
suit the particular object using the + button
(6) / – button (7). If you do not wish to
change the setting, please continue at 4.
4. The emissivity setting is made by pressing
the "Mode" button (5). The emissivity set-
ting can be adjusted to suit the particular
object using the + button (6) / – button (7).
If you do not wish to change the setting,
please continue at 5.
5. The LED setting is made by pressing the
"Mode" button (5). The LED can be
switched ON and OFF using the + button
(6) / – button (7). If you do not wish to
change the setting, please continue at 6.
6. The audio signal setting is made by press-
ing the "Mode" button (5). The audio signal
can be switched ON and OFF using the
+ button (6) / – button (7). If you do not
wish to change the setting, please continue
at 7.
7. Press the "Mode" button (5) to quit the
settings menu.
Selectable unit of temperature °C/°F
The selector switch (9) in the battery compart-
ment (3) allows you to change the temperature
unit from °C (degrees Celsius) to °F (degrees
Fahrenheit).

■ The ideal measurement area is 15 cm from
the hot air tool's delivery outlet and meas-
ures approx. 2 cm in diameter. Reducing /
increasing the distance may cause results
to vary.
■ To obtain accurate results, the object being
measured must be larger than the measure-
ment area. It is recommended for the object
being measured to be at least twice the size
of the measurement area.
■ HL-Scan is unable to take measurements
through transparent surfaces, such as glass.
Instead, HL-Scan measures the surface
temperature of the glass.
■ Refer to "Nozzles" when using nozzles.
■ The measurement results obtained for shiny
objects may be corrupted and therefore
incorrect.
■ To obtain accurate results, HL-Scan must
be allowed to reach ambient temperature.
When moving from one location to another,
let HL Scan reach the new ambient temper-
ature.
■ Prolonged use at high temperatures may
cause HL-Scan to heat up and deliver
incorrect measurement results. To prevent
HL-Scan from heating up after prolonged
use, detach it from the hot air tool after use.
To detach HL-Scan, go to "Fitting/
Removal".
